There is always so much to be thankful for: our family, our health, our friends and Lulu! Actually what Pooh and Piglet had to say, says it all! We are thankful for today. Today is our favorite and we hope it is yours, too. Get your time machines back out again. We have to back up before we can go forward. Cory and I finally got our new tent set up. Actually, the friendly fellows next door to us lent their hands and strength in the process. Thank you, Dave & Vinnie. Lulu even pitched in….best she could…..she has limitations remember. She checked the roof for any issues. All was good according to Supervisor Lulu. We are able to set up extra chairs so our “coffee klatch” can accommodate more friends. “If you build it, they ... read more

Downtown Chicago may surprise you as much as it did us as it is an architectural wonder on one of our five Great Lakes. The confluence of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River ensures this world class city as an important cargo route. These waterways are surrounded by modern skyscrapers, well planned boardwalks and parks which lend this city to be extremely attractive and walkable. The public transportation makes it easy to visit from many of the suburbs. Nearby Union Station has amazing architecture, excellent signage as well several shops, restaurants, and vending machines. Chicago is known as “The Windy City” and many think it is due to the wicked cold winds coming off Lake Michigan…. There are some summer days that feel cold, but winter can be unbearable with the changing microclimates. In reality --it ... read more

We woke up early in the morning and headed to the Portland airport to pick up our rental car to head to Bangor. After a stopover at Dunkin Donuts (Drea’s favourite!), we made it to Bangor just before 9:00 am for our Stephen King tour of Derry, Maine (aka. Bangor). Some of the interesting things we learned on the tour included 1. The philanthropic impact the Kings had on Bangor such as setting up scholarship funds, building baseball fields, community pools and playgrounds, and improving the hospital and library infrastructure without putting his name on any of it except of course his local rock’n roll radio station, WKIT 2. Ensuring that a Ronald McDonald House was established in Bangor 3. Learning about Carrie and seeing the house used as inspiration. “Carrie,” was one of Stephen King’s ... read more

Breathtaking! I visited the Grand Canyon for the first time on Monday. I burst into tears. I knew that photos, films, calendars etc. couldn't do justice to the natural beauty. I did not know how moved I would be. I expected to be impressed, I was awestruck. Then the Hoover Dam. Forget the engineering, building and maintenance of this dam, it is art deco architecture. I believe it is law that you must exit through Las Vegas. We had a good few hours of slot machines and people watching. I’m writing this whilst sitting in the traveling van (see what I did there?) looking at a gray and pink sunset in Eureka, California. John is napping after England vs. Malta. There is an Indian restaurant a very short walk away. This will be our first Indian ... read more

We woke up bright and early so that we could make it to the Portland Headlight for sunrise. The Portland Headlight was one of the main reasons why we wanted to go to Portland. Portland Headlight Some interesting facts about the Portland Headlight include: 1. it is stated to be the oldest lighthouse in Maine 2. it is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. 3. it is also one of only four authorized by George Washington and never rebuilt. 4. it includes a light tower, keepers’ quarters, a whistle house, a paint locker and a garage I enjoyed watching the sunrise while scrolling around the Portland Headlight and Fort Williams Park. After being mesmerized by the Portland Lighthouse, we headed to Becky Dinner for Breakfast. Then it was time to explore the shops ... read more

Housing is in an exciting place in the U.S. Historically, low interest rates were followed by a pandemic, which rapidly changed the state of the market. Today, prices steadily rise across the U.S., which has put the market in turmoil. Amid these issues, there have been winners and losers. Florida is looking to be one of the big winners. Florida and Affordability First and foremost, this isn’t to say that Florida is extremely or even exceptionally affordable. It’s certainly not reaching the highs of other areas such as New York or California. However, many people are moving into Florida, inevitably raising prices. The average home price is $392,000in Florida. For reference, the average in California is $450,000. This price is lower than in many states but still above average. In contrast, th... read more

On our first day in Portland, we headed straight for seafood for dinner. When in Portland, why not? After settling into our hotel, the Aloft we made our way to “Scales” a restaurant along the Pier. Some of the delicious food we had included oysters, seared scallops, and Indian Pudding. After being stuffed from having an amazing meal we explored some of the shops including “Sea Bags” (bags made from the sails of ships). We went to this store various times during our stay in Portland, Maine. Tomorrow, we head out to the Portland Headlight for sunrise. Until then!... read more

After our stay in Santa Rosa, our next stop was a couple hundred miles along a mostly washboard highway, to Grants, New Mexico. Grants was named for three Canadian brothers who owned and operated mines nearby. They wanted a community for themselves and their workers, and they built a nice little town with some quite elegant homes on the nearby hills. We stayed at a really nice little KOA RV park. At first glance, the park seems like a wasteland with a few RV sites and a couple buildings. But this park really is a wonderful place to stay for a little while. The owners and managers have really made an effort to make the park something special. First, and most important, the park is really clean and well maintained, both the RV sites as well ... read more

From CNBC: The most off-putting behaviors According to the report, the most aggravating in-flight behavior is the invasion of personal space — be it encroaching on an armrest, leg room area or crossing the invisible boundary that separates passenger seats. Some 77% of people in the survey said they were "bothered" by it, with 51% saying they were "very bothered." (I hate the seat hog) In second place are unhygienic behaviors, such as clipping fingernails or taking off shoes, according to the survey of more than 2,200 Americans. However, url=https://www.cnbc.com/2023/04/12/should-you-recline-seats-or-remove-shoes-on-flights-it-depends.html?&doc=107327468not everyone objects to removing shoes on flights, with less than half of people in Asia (49%) and just over a third of those in the United Arab Emirates (38%) deeming the practice unacceptable in a YouGov survey p... read more
