Love Momma From: Fran the man Sent: Saturday, 2 April 2005 Subject: RE: Franny Franny Franny - are you out there? Still Alive. The computer in my hostel room wasn’t working yesterday otherwise I would have said hello as soon as I got here. Have been to the La Brea Tar pits and the LACMA - museum of art. You would be proud of me ma they've got some exhibit and folk or handicraft art from Europe and America. When I walked in I went hmmm that looks like a Macintosh chair - sure enough it was. I also recognised plenty of Frank Lloyd Wright stuff too. Sad, sad, sad. Am off to the Getty ... read more

Howdy All - Well, until we can get back out into the world following our wedding we'd love to show you around our little world here in Doylestown just north of Philadelphia. Lot's of soccer moms, developments, and Volvos. The downtown is actually very quiant and trying to offer something more. Sarah and I particularly like the small movie theatre with mostly indy and international films, the little coffee shop that roasts their own beans (stinks like burnt dog while they do it, though). A few nice restaur. without alot of variation. Mostly, we love being able to walk to the store, buy some wine, go to the cool little french cafe and slow down, dreaming about adventures yet to come and the crazy things we've already seen. We'll be headed down to Virginia for a ... read more

So often we consider travel exploration to be something you need to travel long distances to do. How about exploring your own backyard in a new way. The community I live in has been fondly dubbed the Northeast Kingdom or "The Kingdom" for short. I came to appreciate it's lake and mountains only after I moved away and returned here to live. I'd like to use my enegy to explore it further and share my exploration with you and other potential visitors. ... read more

Journeys. Like artists, are born and not made. A thousand differing circumstances contribute to then, few of them willed or determined by the will—whatever we may think. Lawrence Durrell Today is our last day in Hawaii; we fly out this evening. So we decided to take the bus and make a circle around the island. Once outside of Honolulu, the countryside is beautiful. The north shore is outstanding and it boasts the best surfing. We stopped at Turtle Bay Resort for lunch. Wow! It is an upscale resort with many amenities. The ride took almost 4 hours, just enough time to get back to our hotel wash up and get to the airport, again. We are on our way home, weary and happily satisfied. ... read more

"Mickey is a rat! Mickey is a rat!" That's what my placard read. It's also what I vociferously chanted as I marched down Pennsylvania Ave with hundreds of other concerned citizens in a protest march against the proposed Disney's America theme park project planned for the historic Haymarket area of Northern Virgina. That was in the summer of 1994, my first summer of living in the DC metropolitan area. Later that same year, Disney's top gun Michael Eisner dropped the plans for the "theme park" without explanation. Maybe protest marches do work sometimes. Marilyn and I now live in Michigan, but two weeks ago, right on the verge of bursting cherry blossoms, we were back in DC. Mickey Mouse was there too. Actually 76 Mickeys were in DC, all of them standing stiff as plastic in ... read more
