Geo: 44.5264, -109.056DAY 5 continued.I found our hotel -- The Cody -- on Trip Advisor and it was a beaut. A luxury hotel, at least for this cowboy town. Lovely lobby. Lovely rooms. Friendly staff. Good beds. Warm complementary breakfast. And located across the road from Cody's nightly rodeo. What more could you want? Maybe a lower price. Why did I think these small towns would be a bargain, when they are the gateway to some of the best national parks? The staff "steered" us to Wyoming Rib & Chop House on Sheridan Road. We had a half-hour wait so we wandered along the street, doing some window shopping. Cute shops and lots of restaurants. A small college town without a college. But plenty of tourists and plenty of cowboys. We checked out the Irma Hotel, where ... read more

Cody and the surrounding area needs more than just a one night stop so we are here for three days. This morning, before we started out on one of our scenic route trips, we visited the "Historic Trail Town". It is a collection of buildings and relics of the Wyoming frontier. Local archaeologist Bob Edgar created Trail Town by moving 26 buildings built between 1879 and 1901 to the location that was once the site of original Old Cody City. Among the buildings are an old saloon, livery barn, blacksmith shop, general stores, post office and schools. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's "Hole-in-the-Wall" cabin is also located there. There are over 100 horse drawn vehicles and the original wagon trail. There are also Plains Indians materials, guns of the frontier, carriages, clothing and many other ... read more

Day 131 (Saturday 29/08/09, NJJ) Packed up then used the camp showers, very much needed as we hadn't been able to shower since Wednesday. Saw various viewpoints of the Upper and Lower Falls of Yellowstone river, and the north and south rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. On then for the 81 mile drive to Cody, Wyoming from the east entrance of Yellowstone. Travelled through Buffalo Bill country. Scenery was different to anything we'd seen on the US part of the trip so far. Some lovely countryside which was very obviously cowboy country. Got to Cody around 2.30pm. Visitor centre first. Checked into Ponderosa campground. Went to the Buffalo Bill Historical Centre, spent1.5 hours there in the Museum of the American West, Gallery of Western Art (we got to see some actual Remington and Russell ... read more

Yes, somehow we managed to tick off Montana ('Big Sky Country') and Wyoming ('Like No Place On Earth') in just 5 days - not enough time to do them justice really. You can guess what's coming next - yes, more long, windy road with sweeping bends and spectacular views. Although I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that our first day in the USA was a total wash out and we got soaked to the skin. We crossed into Glacier National Park and travelled along the inappropriately named 'Going to the Sun' road. We didn't see any sun and spent the whole time in a cloud, along with a hundred or so cars in a traffic jam negotiating the roadworks on the highest pass. The locals kept telling us how spectacular the views are on a ... read more

Today I started out by leaving Rapid City and heading West through Sturgis. I was expecting to see thousands of Harleys but was thoroughly disappointed when I only saw a few. Perhaps it was because I just stayed on the interstate or maybe they venture out during the day only to come back and tear it up at night, whatever the reason I would say that I saw far more in the surrounding areas earlier in the week. Guess I'll just have to come back some other time to hear the rolling thunder of all them hogs. First stop after Sturgis was Devil's Tower. It was a very interesting formation and I enjoyed it. Unlike Rushmore and Crazy Horse this was one of the busier parks that I actually enjoyed. Maybe because it was created by ... read more

Cody is a great little town. I have to say that the people, of both the state of Wyoming and South Dakota, are some of the nicest we've met. Everyone is super-friendly. We stayed at another Cowboy Village and our room had a great view. We went and had WY Mexican food. It was pretty good....interesting and very spicy. The next morning we set out for the Buffalo Bill Cody Historical Museum. It was a really neat place with exhibits on the old west, native Americans, natural history, and an expansive firearms display. We really didn't get to give it our full attention with Lelah romping around and getting impatient, though. We hit the road after that and headed for Custer, SD and for Mt. Rushmore. Much love, The Moellers... read more

Day Two Now this is what I call touring...an action packed day with rain, scenery, high altitudes, great company, running into old friends, snow, drizzle and just down right fun. We left Thursday, June 18 from Billings around 8:30 am after having a time of sharing and devotions for the day. What a great bunch of riders who all have the same passion for motorcycle riding. The day started out overcast and on the way to Red Lodge we ran into rain showers, however, we made the decisiont before leaving to put on our rain gear. It was a wise decision and it kept us dry. Met up with Jon and Taylor at Red Lodge. They had a great night camping our in a cabin...it kept them dry. We spent about one hour in Red Lodge ... read more

7th June, 2009. Cody, Wyoming Bit Cold last night, I thought Sam was joking when she told me there was snow on the ground outside this morning, there was snow and plenty of it, we had had around 4 inches overnight and it was still snowing. Temperature was 36F (3C). That lovely white stuff didn't let up until around lunch time when I went outside and broomed the snow of our wagon, cold!!!!!!!. Spoke to the next door neighbours and they had been heading off today to go to Yellowstone but the Sylvan pass was closed to all vehicles, so another night here. Lunch in the RV and then off down to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, made up of the following, Plains Indian Museum, Buffalo Bill Museum, Draper Museum of Natural History, Cody Firearms Museum ... read more

6th June, 2009 Yellowstone to Cody, Wyoming. Freezing last night and just down the road the reason why, yes it had snowed again, so much for the spring (apparently it can snow here any time). Out of the park for the last time and still no bears, but thats life. Coming out of the park you go over Sylvan Pass, 8530ft, plenty of snow up there, and then down out through a long winding road, had to take it easy with the RV on the back wanting to push us down the hill. Twenty six miles and out of the park, and another 53 to Cody (yes they named this town after our grandson as well, only thing is they couldn't spell Cody, our grandson is spelt Kody). Nice trip out and we stopped at the ... read more
