Geo: 44.5264, -109.056Today was a very long day. We spent most of 10 hours in the car. We left our hotel at 7:45 and 62 degrees and headed back into Yellowstone National Park. There was no specific plan for the day except to see Old Faithful blow her top, so that is where we headed first. We arrived at the site around 10:15 AM (this park is huge). When we drove into the parking lot, there were no available spaces anywhere near the geyser, so Steve dropped me off by the lodge and went to park the car, which apparently, was a long distance away, because I was watching the eruption when he was making his way down the nearby parking lot. The timing for me was great, I didn't have to wait very long, but ... read more

Geo: 44.5264, -109.056Steve was up and raring to go early this morning, so we left at 8 and 61 degrees and headed for Cody, WY, which is where we will stay for the next three nights while we visit Yellowstone NP. I didn't know what to expect from Wyoming. I had not been here since 1966 and have little memory of driving through it. I will admit, I didn't expect much.We headed north and into prairie country, a landscape of rolling hills of yellow grass, shaded by blotchy patches of grass trying to be green, but not succeeding much, due to the lack of water. The early morning sun shining on the hillsides causing angular shadows on the yellow walls. We saw some trees from time to time, but for the most part, it was grass…yellow ... read more

This morning we headed to the Buffalo Bill Cody museum. The man lead an interesting and colorful life. He was a hunter, entertainer and a Colonel in the Army. The museum was impressive and very educational. Also part of the museum is a habitat for rescued birds of this area. We got to see a rescued owl, vulture, falcon and golden eagle. Tonight we went to an old fashion chuck wagon dinner. After dinner was a western music show. The music show was so great we bought the 4 CDs they were selling. The band (Triple C Cowboys) is made up of Ryan Martin and the Wilson family. Ryan plays the lead guitar and is the band leader. The Wilson family consist of Andrew (Dad), Deanna (Mom), Jake (14), Zack (12), Brandon (10) and Cara (6). ... read more

We left Billings this morning and headed for Little Big Horn where Custer had his last stand. As we toured the area it was interesting to hear how the famous battle took place. It's sad how the Army was the first to attack the Indian village. It was all over some land the Indian tribes did not want to sell it to the government. Custer also was not too smart since he was out-numbered 200 Army to over 2,000 warriors. White markers throughout the over four miles of battlefield denote the spots where Army soldiers died. The red markers denote where they believe the Indian warriors were killed. It's also interesting the white markers have been up over 100 years, but the red markers only since 1999. They have now just begun to build a memorial ... read more

We were up early again ... ready for fun. We also had a long drive into Cody ahead of us. Checked out of Cadillac Jacks - really great service again. They came out and helped load Mom & I's growing horde of stuff. I really learned how much stuff my car can hold. There was now a two foot carved wood bear in the compartment under the back passenger seat. LOL We had breakfast in Deadwood at one of the old hotel saloons. I think Silverados but not sure. Dad, Dave and I had breakfast sandwiches that I remember being pretty good. Mom had pancakes and bacon she was unhappy with ... a recurring theme! LOL We then separated for an hour or so & took a stroll ... read more

"How do these people exist so disconnected from, well, everything?!?" We crossed Wyoming today. Well, most of Wyoming. And my oh my is that a lot of nothing! No towns, no stores, no gas stations, no houses, and definitely no cell phone coverage! As Todd said, I was not cut out for country living. The countryside, of course, is breathtaking. At one point we drove through Big Horn Mountains and a gorge that was startling in its grandiose austerity. Jagged cliffs rising to imposing heights on either side of us. But the lack of development/civilization along our route (mostly Highway 16 for anyone who's interested) was reminiscent of my trips to Africa. At one point we passed through mountaintops with traces of snow on the ground. In July. Surreal. We also made a quick stop at ... read more

7/20/13 - Today we left the motorhome and traveled about 55 miles to the "Daddy of 'em all Rodeo" in Cheyenne, WY. This is booked as the world's largest rodeo. It goes on for the entire week during the Cheyenne Pioneer Days. Dakota and Briar enjoyed the rodeo and Briar got a rope, while Dakota goes a pair of mocassin boots.... read more
