We left South Dakota and have now entered the state of Wyoming. We stopped for the night in Bufflo Wyoming. We will head to Yellowstone National Park tomorrow. The Wyoming landscape so far consists of flat prairie with rolling hills and tumbleweed. From our campsite we can now see white capped mountains in the distance. We paid a short visit to the town of Buffalo. National Geographic Traveller magazine recommended visiting the Occidental hotel and saloon. The building dates back to the 1880s and most is still original. We enjoyed a local beer and a bison burger in the saloon. It was really neat imagining all the cowboys that sat at this bar over the years. Gary felt like he should have been wearing cowboy boots and hat. Here is a link to the Occidental Hotel ... read more

Monday 6.16.14 Today we woke up in the badlands. We took a some time working the campground showers, and packing up. We hiked into the rock formations, and touched the crumbly sandstone and discovered different paths. A three legged rabbit kept us amused. In a different part of the a badlands, ( it just kept going on and on!) we walked through to look at fossils, and we're equally disappointed at the lack of. None the less, we brought some 'specimens' back that we thought could possibly be fossils. On our way out of the park, my well practiced wildlife scanning eye spied a female elk about 350 yards away. We used the binoculars for the first time! Pulling into Wall Drug, we walked through the iconic little tourist village, and saw all kids of amusements. ... read more

Today we woke up in a cold tent. Mom wimped out and slept in the car. We then hiked through the badlands and met a three legged rabbit that I named nub. (Bunny kind of backwards) I then realized that it was a sick joke and renamed him hop. We jumped back in the car and started the drive to Mt. Rushmore. It was amazing and sooooo huge. Then we drove for a long long time. After about 4 hours we could see the huge Rocky Mountains on the horizon. They were breathtaking. We packed up camp in a hotel in buffalo, Wyoming and took a swim in the pool. Now were hanging in the room watching World Cup highlights. All together i think it was a pretty amazing day. Xoxo, Sadie(:... read more

We arrived here on Tuesday to locate the campground of our dreams from 38 years ago. As we ventured around the area, thinking it was definitely familiar, we came to find out the original campground we sought was under water as a result of the new reservoir. Being the hikers we are, we discovered a wonderful area, trail 046. The arduous trail took us up a 1000 foot ascent, 2 mile destination to Shred lake. Along the way the forest was beautiful, we found a cow moose with her young grazing in a marsh. Totally picturesque. Crazy Woman Canyon was today. The rock formations towered above as we inched along the single lane dirt road at the base. Another awe inspiring view of mother nature Spent Thursday afternoon browsing through shops in Historic Downtown Buffalo. Had ... read more

We got up early with alarms at 7am and had breakfast downstairs and we were packed and ready to leave at 8.30am which was pretty good. Weather was cool and overcast about 18 degrees at best. We decided to head towards Rapid City and visit Bear Country USA. It cost $60- to go in but wow ! was this place special. We did a 30 minute loop on a road circuit. The first 15 minutes we saw a range of animals in individual enclosures that you drove through and the animals were so close and next to the car. When we entered the bear enclosure you had to keep windows closed for obvious reasons and there were more bears than you could throw a stick at (about 200) and mix between Black Bears and Grizzlies. Because ... read more

We made our way eastward today across Montana and into Wyoming......It was a very pretty drive through Montana. We stopped in Billings for a bit of shopping and then headed east to Wyoming. We stopped at the State park for Custer's Last Stand !!! It was sooo busy we couldn't even find a place to park the rig. We just drove the trail and got out in a couple of places to take pictures. It looks just like it does in the movies !! We were amazed it is so popular as Custer and his troops were slaughtered here!!! We thought Custer won!!! guess that shows our history knowledge !!! It was cool , but too busy to really see it all. We then headed to Buffalo Wyoming....not much here either , but we were ready ... read more

On the way out of Grand Teton NP, we had to stop to take some more pictures of the Teton Range. What a beautiful mountain range! Then up over a 9600+ft pass on the way to Riverton, WY where we stopped to provision. Then down through the Wind River Canyon on the way to Ten Sleep. After Ten Sleep, we climbed up another spectacular canyon to another 9600+ ft pass before making it to Buffalo, WY where we stayed the night. The climb up the second canyon was in 90+ degree heat and the Jeep tried to overheat - - had to turn on the heater full blast, and stop a couple times to let it cool - - BUT, it made it. Gena was too concerned about the engine temperature to take pictures going up, ... read more

After one last stop at Willow Flats, we sadly said goodbye to Grand Teton National Park. We savored the occasional glimpses of the mountains in our rearview mirror. We headed east on 26/287 crossing Togwotee Pass, el 9,658’, in a construction zone. After we passed through the town of Dubois, the scenery began to get more colorful as we traveled along the Wind River Valley. At Riverton we shopped for some groceries while Kerry got the oil changed in the car. We then drove through beautiful Wind River Canyon to Thermopolis, home of the world’s largest mineral hot spring. Then on to Worland, where we turned east on the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway. We passed through Ten Sleep and over Powder River Pass at 9,666’ after climbing for about 25 miles. Then it was a sometimes ... read more

We spent time in Buffalo, WY for medical visits, to wash and wax the bus, and to get things ready for our Alaska trip. A great local find was the Winchester Steak House where Diane ordered prime rib. It was so big and so good that we shared leftovers for dinner the next evening. One day, another Prevost bus rolled into the campground. We didn’t pay much attention until the next day, when Diane realized she recognized the distinctive paint job. Alan remarked that he too had seen the coach before. Lo and behold, we realized it was Les and Pat Jackson, a couple we met the previous summer in Creede, CO. We re-introduced ourselves and spent two great evenings catching up with them. It is truly a small world among the RV crowd. Sheridan, WY, ... read more

well... though this isn't much to write about, i had a huge debacle with whether or not I needed a UK visa prior to entering the country. all along I knew I did not, but as usual, it took a lot of hair pulling to come BACK to that conclusion. I am kind of fretting about what to pack... I don't exactly know what I'll want to wear over there. But I suppose I'll take my favorite things and call it a day. I'm excited to go to back to Maryland on Tuesday morning, even though I know I'll cry when I leave my Daddy and Joanna. I'm getting so excited!! Slightly nervous. Hopefully I don't make a complete fool out of myself. My whole thing I have going with having absolutely no sense of direction ... read more
