It was dark when we had arrived, so we had not seen the view from our hotel room. In the morning, we saw it in it’s full glory. Let’s just say that it was nothing like we had got used to in Vancouver. My wife and I went for a short walk to stretch our legs before our flight. Almost everywhere was closed, which (we found out later) was because it was Labor Day. It was only a very short drive to Seattle Tacoma Airport, obviously, since we were in an airport hotel. It involved some right turns and so it is a good, final opportunity to note that turning right at lights in America (and Canada) can be a surprisingly confusing experience. When you are on a red light, you can in fact still turn ... read more

There are several answers to this question. One might be that it is more fun. I can walk around, without that damn seatbelt light coming on. And I can see out of BOTH sides of the train. Mealtime is at an actual table with waiters, something even a premium seat in First or Business Class of an airplane cannot match. The quality of the food is somewhere between coach class and first, however. Two, it is much more relaxing. I can nap whenever I want, with nobody to bother me. I can stretch out on two seats, with several pillows and blankets if needed. I can open or close the shades, adjust the airflow and light, and it is much quieter than an airplane. Three, the people I meet on the train seem much more willing ... read more

Geo: 47.2551, -122.442Today was a rather uneventful day…well, most of it. We left Kamloops at 8:30 and 72 degrees with clear blue skies, and before the day was done, it had reached 97. We have no complaints about the heat, after all, we live in Florida. We like warm weather. The drive to the border took most of the morning, through sometimes desert-like areas with yellow grass and sage plants spread everywhere, and later through rolling hills…I guess this was the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. We drove up and over some, down into valleys between them, and around the sides of others, where the rock had been cut to allow for the passage of the roads. And the topography that predominated was small mountains covered with trees…Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and sometimes aspen, which I ... read more

It's a rainy day at Salmon Beach. I'm sitting by the fire setting up a blog to keep those I love informed of my travels. The dog is asleep at my feet and I am taking in the view of the bay and gray pallet blanketing the Narrows Bridge. I am blessed to have the opportunity to set off on my trek soon.... read more

We are hours away from heading to the airport and getting on the plane to Nicaragua! The whole team is ecstatic and can't wait to get there! We know it is going to be an amazing trip! We have been fortunate to have partnered with Brookdale Elementary School in raising money for our project. These are some of the pictures from the Assembly we had on March 11th where they presented us with $285.00. We are so proud of all of the work that they have put in and are so impressed with how much money they were able to raise for the well. Nicaragua here we come!... read more

”Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.” C.S.LEWIS 1 Corinthians 1:4- I always thank God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus… As I sit here to type my yearly Christmas letter, I smile as I look out the window and see the beautiful blue skies this crisp December day! The smile comes, not only from the beauty of this Sunday, but from so many things this past year. This deep thankfulness and appreciation of life has grown out of my walk on The Camino de Santiago. Truly the greatest blessing in 2013 – the greatest blessing because it has helped me understand and appreciate so many things in life and ... read more

I ran the Vancouver USA half marathon for the second year today. I really didn't feel prepared for this race. My head wasn't in it - my head is already in Spain - and I have been training the last couple months to walk with a 21 pound pack on my back not run 13.1 miles. Yet this morning came and I felt good and was keeping positive about running the best race I could. Pastor Ruud had commented to me a couple weeks ago that I had already started on The Camino. Well if I hadn't already, I definitely did today. I did a lot of praying and talking to God during that run. It was a good run and for a while I thought I might have a new personal best. That was one ... read more
