The last big day on the road was a good one with beautiful weather and clear skies. We left Craig this morning early and got some good miles behind us before getting to Dinosaur National Monument, which would be our last national park for the trip. Unfortunately we ran into some bad GPS directions and thought we would miss it for the day because the GPS kept trying to take us down dirt and gravel roads. So we pushed on and made our way to Dinosaur, CO where we stopped at the park information center and learned that the main area of the park is actually on the western side of the park in Utah. At a gas stop along the way, I chatted with a guy riding from Grand Rapids, MI to northern California on ... read more

Geo: 40.7608, -111.8915/26/12 – Surprise, surprise. Those old bikers did not turn out to be a bunch of party animals after all. I think they went to bed before we did, because it got very quiet around 8 PM and we had a good night's sleep. So, no one told us it was Memorial Day. Just kidding. But this fact has made it a challenge to finding accommodations this weekend. Anything around the national parks is booked solid for sure. With Yosemite, we had to get a room 40 minutes from the park, and that was a Wednesday. We ruled out Yellowstone for that very same reason. All booked up. We will have to come back another time to see Old Faithful. Salt Lake City was all booked up this weekend, too, and we had to ... read more

Standing at around five-foot-three – probably around my height – with a smile that never leaves her face, Kim, for me, has become the face of Salt Lake City. She’s not from here, and she’s not even American – she’s from South Korea. But she typifies the quality I have come to love about the city. More than the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS), Utah’s capital, I quickly learn, is a welcoming haven populated with warm souls – an oasis in a vast expanse of desert, in more ways than one. After six hours on the interstate, concrete buildings finally take over the wide expanses of meadows. Salt Lake City is the first city we arrive at after two days in the rural West and the urban trappings ... read more

Salt Lake City was ok...not very exciting. But the trip to Cali was pretty interesting. We stopped in the middle of the highway, in the middle of nowhere to play frisby!! We arrived at a Camp Site in Nevada and had awesome grilled food (that took forever and burnt all of Blaise's hand-hair :D)...but it was worth it!!... read more

We woke up at 6am! (Yup, that's true!) Went for a hike, saw a snake and got a little lost. Started drinving at 9am, made quick stops at Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and Casper (Blaise decided to move there) and got to Salk Lake City 15 hours later!... read more

I decided to have an unorthodox spring break and I headed to Utah with my good friend Kiera for a few days of fun. The inspiration for my trip was the Pacific Coast Adult Sectionals, a figure skating competition, where I competed in Gold Solo Dance. However, I knew the trip would be amazing because, well, Utah is just so awesome!!! We really do need to kick out the mormons because I would move to SLC if they weren't there. Anyways, once again, in the interest of time, the pictures will tell the stories. We left on Thursday, March 15 and drove to Salt Lake City. On the 16th we visited Anteloppe Island in the Great Salt Lake. On the 17th we headed down to Provo for the competition. On the 18th we began the journey ... read more

It was like another regular US cities that I have visited so far. In the city, I was off from the desolate deserts. As I traveled Utah, on my mind was Morman culture and polygamy. Utah was the home of the Morman sect and polygamy practices.... read more

What a beautiful clean modern city Salt lake City is. It is truely impressive by anyones standards. The buildings are modern and incredibly well maintained. The streets are the same along with inner city parks. Had a blast here after arriving by train at about 2.00am in the morning. My bed in the hotel was just the nicest bed I have ever slept in. It just totally engulfed me. Almost decided to stay in bed for my whole time there but then decided against that for fear of missing the sights of the Inner City. Lucky I did arise from my bed sanctuary because I found Temple Square, the world epi-centre for the Mormon faith. Regardless of your faith I believe anyone would be impressed by this space, the gardens and the buildings. Found the Mormon ... read more

Nope, Denver was tropical!!! This is cold. Even though the train was 3 1/2 hours late I saw the Rockies in all their splendor. The views and the day was just amazing. And then it got dark so that's all the photos folks. Who did I meet? Well there was a guy called Tim who was sitting nearby who kept asking me if I saw the bald egale sitting in the dead pine trees AFTER we had gone past. Yes I did see a bald eagle and they are huge. He was a retired assistant Fire Chief of about 4 months and was really missing the action. A really nice guy. We chatted for ages. Then there was Rose. Rose by any other name. Rose climbed aboard half way along the journey to Salt Lake City. ... read more

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas or what happens in Vegas stays with you for the rest of your life and in our case that is true. On our last day in Vegas we decided to visit a chapel and get married as weighing up the $120 cost of doing it there and then to the cost of doing it back home it seemed like a really good thing to do. So congratulations are needed for newly Mr and Mrs Stephenson who were married at 3.30pm on Thursday 10th November 2011 in Cupid's Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Navada. We both wore jeans and our waitnesses were a couple from Utah who had just won over $20,000 in a casino on one of the machines and decided to get married. Right, now that the ... read more
