After visiting Jeremy, we headed to visit my daughter Tarryn and her family in Utah. Tarryn and her husband Daniel have 3 kids now, Abriauna, Brayson, and Brielle. They have beautiful kids. We ate Pizza and watched the kids play in a park while Daniel coached a football team. Mainly we talked and caught up on everything that has happened since we were last together. We also took the kids to a small indoor amusement park. I have known Tarryn since she was almost 3 years old when I married her mother Nicole. Tarryn and Daniel have a great life, a beautiful family and a nice home. It is a pleasure to spend time with them all.... read more

Yesterday, we began by driving 30 miles to the Saltaire. It used to be a vacation spot where the first of seven floors of the exotic building was a gigantic salt water pool. It burned to the ground twice, and was flooded once; has now been rebuilt (smaller) as a popular concert venue. We waded, but did not swim, in the water that is 6-8 times more salty than the ocean! At 4 p.m., we hopped on a tour us with 4 other couples to enjoy a spirited 5 1/2 hour guided Salt Lake City tour with a terrific guide. Included the Capital; the park-area where Brigham Young once declared, "This is it!" to make his choice of the valley here the new home of the Mormons; a SLC history film; old architecture of houses and ... read more

We came close to learning the meaning of life in Salt Lake City. Visiting the Mormon capital of the world, of course we had to check out some Mormon activities at their "headquarters", Temple Square. There is a building called Tabernacle which has very special acoustics and almost 200 year old organs. Daily half an hour organs concerts are given there at noon, so that's where we headed. In the beginning of the concert an elderly gentleman, who was a missionary volunteer, gave a brief introduction to the building and the organs, and also said that after the concert he could answer questions like "what is the meaning of life", "who are we", "why are we here", "where are we going to". We were tempted to go and ask, but unfortunately we chickened out on the ... read more

Today was a travel day. Back to civilization, wifi and overcrowded cities. Hard to believe the contrast one hour's drive can make out here. We went from wide open expanses with nary a soul in sight to 4-lane highways brimming with people, buildings, cars, trucks, signs...stuff crammed everywhere. Makes you think (and also grateful for cellular towers). Spent most of the day driving from Jackson to Salt Lake City. When we arrived, Todd had planned a special treat for the kids - an Alpine slide in Park City that he used to take his Trails West kids to each summer. They've expanded a bit, adding zip lines, a coaster and other small attractions. It took some coaxing, but we were finally able to get Sean to agree to ride, so we all hopped on the chairlift ... read more

We went to Antelope Island located close to Salt Lake City. The water in this lake contains more salt than the ocean. Sometimes called the dead sea because very little lives in this lake. However there are fishing boats that fish for brine shrimp. The lake is beautiful for the reflections of the mountains in the water. We saw one lone bison, which was the only wild animal we saw except for the sea gulls. There is a ranch on the island that is not an active ranch but is now a museum. I am anxious for some of my friends to see the pictures of old equipment and tell me how they were used. Some I recognized, but many are foreign to me. The house on the ranch has some of the tools the women ... read more

Today we went to Salt Lake City to see the Mormon Tabernacle Square. The flowers are beautiful. We could not go into the Tabernacle but I took pictures. Salt Lake City is huge but it was well marked, making it easy to get around.... read more

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888Our first day of vacation was fairly relaxing. We didn't have to be at the airport until 10 so we didn't have to rush to wake up. Security at the airport wasn't too bad and we got to our gate in plenty of time. The flight left about 15 mins late and didn't make up the delay in the air so we arrived in Seattle late as well...but, no worries since we didn't have any place to be.We picked up our car, drove to McDonald's for a quick lunch and then started our drive to Vancouver. We arrived a little before 5 and checked into the Vancouver Airport Marriott. The room is a suite but is very small, we have one tiny closet so nobody will be unpacking. Guess this is in preparation for ... read more

Gas up the truck and head for Salt Lake City. Bye bye to the HooDoos. Travel I-15 to Salt Lake City and we have a tail wind and it’s 80 mph speed limit. Couldn’t get any better than this. Pretty cloudy today, keeps the heat at bay. It is very windy though. 4 deer right at the side of the Interstate, ready to cross – oh my! They jumped the fence. Nice campground, arrive at 3:30 and we can see downtown SLC from here. Tomorrow we’ll head into the city.... read more
