Three weeks until I leave for Asia! I have an unbelievable amount of things to do before I leave. So here is the itinerary. Fly into Bangkok, stay in a 4 star hotel for a couple nights to recover, then off to the orphanage. Volunteer for 3 weeks in the orphanage. Then to THE BEACH for some R&R. I will fly to Kunming, China around March 11, to Chengdu, China around March 18, and then back to Bangkok to depart on Mar 26th. Hope you all enjoy this!... read more

After 2 days in Las Vegas, I took a Greyhound night bus to Salt Lake City. The ride was about 9 hours long, and unlike the trip from Vancouver to Edmonton, there were no mountains and no snow, so the scenary out of the window was pitch black. I arrived at the Salt Lake City Greyhound depot at around 7am. To my surprise, the bus stopped at a brand new depot, instead of the downtown depot (as mentioned in my Lonely Planet guide). Luckily, the new depot is not very far from downtown. When I arrived, the sky was still dark and the weather was cold, so I stayed in the depot to have my breakfast and upload my LV photos into my laptop. At 8am, the sun was rising, so I put my luggage in ... read more

Hi. I am creating this page to document and share my experiences. (And, more importantly, because Fasy created one and I wanted to be cool like him) I am in Utah now, working for Second Nature Wilderness Therapy School and preparing for my trip. Preparations thus far not overly impressive. To date I have recently bought dress shoes; tennis shoes in S. America being decidedly unhip, and a season pass at Snowbird to enjoy my remaining time in the Good Ol' USA. The departure date is April 2nd and the first stop is Costa Rica for some "tasty waves". Thanks for checking out the site. This trip is dedicated in loving memory of my dad, my uncle and poppa. P.S To access the route of my trip click on the map.... read more

The Farmers Market is one of my favorite stops on a Saturday morning in Salt Lake City. For five hours each Saturday from June until early October, Pioneer Park in downtown is full of activity between vendors and eager customers. On this particular Saturday, I’ve come to peruse the goods of the season with my friend Tricia, who is selecting a few fresh vegetables to take home. After previewing the array of produce, fresh bread, and specialty food items like salsa and basil pesto, we decide to share a basket of fresh peaches from Brigham City. Two years ago, the market expanded to include not only food and produce vendors, but local artisans as well. Handmade jewelry, original photography, and garden sculptures are just a few of the many unique items on display around the perimeter ... read more

The conversation as we are heading to arrivals at the Salt Lake City Airport goes like this... Me: "Did you send the family a photo of us?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me: "Do you know what they look like?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me:"How are the gonna find us? I hope they have a sign" Well we didn't have to worry about that one, coming down the escalators we see a lovely looking couple smiling at us. "You look just like your dad" They say to my husband. So after 30 years some people still have good memories..... Well you can't escape those genes unfortunately... (or in our case) fortunately - as we were easy to spot in the small crowd at the Airport. Maybe we just don't look American? Wonder if they said "Yeah... those ... read more

Well, Salt Lake City is the weirdest place I have ever been... Where are all the people, the town was deserted apart from the Mormons trying to haul us into there massive church. Which they did manage, I must admit I was really curious as to what the deal was with them. A couple of ladies took us around, one was from Brazil and the other from China, they both spoke to us like robots, there script was so well rehearsed it was so blatently obvious. They took us into the Church and showed us there massive statue of Jesus that started speaking to us in this American accent... Then they took us to this other room and showed us their living apostles and prophet! They were all white men either from the sates or from ... read more
