Geo: 40.7595, -111.888We left on a Saturday in late April and returned the next Saturday. Except for a one hour or so delay leaving GSP airport, all of the flights were on time, and the delay at GSP did not cause a problem since we had a long layover in ATL built in to the schedule. We arrived in Salt Lake City at 1:00 PM, MST, picked up our rental car around 2:00 PM, and drove 4 .5 hours through rain and snow (yes, SNOW) to our motel, Ruby's Inn, for the next three nights. Except for a bit of walking around the airport in Atlanta, we missed our daily walk, but we made up for it on the next 6 days. On Sunday, our first full day at Bryce Canyon, we hiked a figure eight ... read more

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888Today was a travel day, but that is not to say that it didn't have some surprises in store for us. As is usually the case, when you least expect it, mother nature jumps up and hits you between the eyes. We left Cody at 7:45 and 66 degrees and headed south toward Utah. For the first hour or two the ride provided nothing interesting, just a lot of prairies with lots and lots of sage brush nestled in the wispy yellow grass. The land was flat and there was simply nothing there, no houses, no towns, no ranches, nothing. Then suddenly, right in front of us appeared huge mesas, just rising out of the earth, with horizontal striations of various shades of earth tones and evergreen bushes growing out of them. It always ... read more

Here we are in Salt Lake City. We enjoyed a day off the bikes so that we could play tourist around the town. Not sure what a typical tourist does in Salt Lake. What we did do was ride the light rail out and back on a couple of different routes just to get the lay of the land. We walked around downtown, did a little shopping, coffees, beers, burgers and then……….we did two things I never thought I would ever do. First: we went to watch the “Mormon Tabernacle Choir” practice. For all you sport fans out there, yes I said practice, if you can believe it!!!!!! The second thing I never thought was: I actually enjoyed it (funny thing is, I no longer want any coffee or beer). That will pass by morning. As ... read more

3 long days later, I've had a chance while battling it out with the winds in Idaho and Utah during today's ride to reflect on the grandeur of Yellowstone National Park, the first designated national park in the USA. Last night, my mind was on overload. The park is a geologic wonderland. The 69 photos we put up in yesterday's blog were all taken within a 17 mile stretch of the Grand Loop Road, a 130 mile figure of eight parkway circumnavigating the park. Some of the geysers and fumaroles are actually adjacent to each other. What must the first explorers have thought about this foreign landscape. I'm not going to attempt to offer any descriptives, I wouldn't do it justice. We still don't understand why it was so much busier yesterday than Monday. It was ... read more

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888We got up at 6:00 am and got ready to leave Europe to go back home. Breakfast was served in a breakfast room and courtyard of the hotel. It was a nice European style breakfast. We then lugged our bags down the street, over the bridge and up the street to the Pizzale Roma where we met our driver to take us to the airport. After about a 30 minute drive we arrived at the airport, checked in and made it through security. The first leg of our flight was to Atlanta which was a 10.5 hour flight. We then had a 2 hour layover in Atlanta to get through customs and make it from one end of the Atlanta Airport to the furthest terminal and gate. Customs was very quick and we got to ... read more

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888We had a beautiful leisurely drive from East Canyon to Salt Lake City. It took about 1-1/2 hours, but it was a less "puckered" drive than yesterday. We arrived in Salt Lake City around 9:30 am, went to the hotel, the room was already available, and they let us park the RV in the alley right behind the hotel. And, the door to the alley opens right into the hotel lobby. Excellent! The hotel is literally across the street from Temple Square, the home of the Mormon/Later-Day Saints church. We toured the grounds, and then walked to the "artsy" restaurant area.Just picked up Sean and Sarah at the airport. Gonna hit a bar and then hit the beds.... read more
