Since Em and I were not invited to Barbara Bush’s funeral, we decided to go to the Johnson Space Center this morning after a great breakfast at the House of Pies. We took a 1.5 hour tram tour. We were able to go into a couple of buildings. The most interesting was the flight control center and a building that houses one of two Saturn V Rockets.... read more

If I never see another G.D. mobile home on a truck on an interstate, it will be too soon. Seriously, how many of these things did we get behind today? I feel like I-10 and I-12 are the primary corridors for the transportation of these things. And they were frequently unconcerned with taking up both lanes of the interstate; yeah, how were these interstates only 2-laned in each direction for so long? But alas, such is the driving life. Yesterday was a big driving day, but since we had no stops scheduled, it went by surprisingly quickly. It was a total of about 7 hours on the road, but because the first 2.5 hours were backroads through Georgia and Florida, they didn't seem so boring. And then it was all I-10 until we got just inside ... read more

Geo: 29.7605, -95.3698While in Nashville, I went to Popeyes to get something for us to eat. We needed FOOD.This particular plane was a small one - like walking out on the tarmac. We had to check our carry on luggage. And Glenn and I both slept about 1 hour here to the flight to Houston.By this time we had been up 30 hours of traveling.I know I've kinda of repeated myself. It is what it is. I'm uploading some photos of the last hours... read more

I stayed at an Escapees park in Livingston, Texas which was about 70 miles north of Houston. I was able to leave my trailer there while I flew back to Tacoma to spend Christmas with family. Had a great time with Heather and Tad and their families for the holidays and had problem free flights to and from. When I got back I spent another couple of weeks in Livingston. I made a day trip to see the Houston Space Center. The traffic was terrible that day because of two wrecks on two different freeways. I needed to go 1.5 miles to the exit that I needed and it took me a half hour. I enjoyed the Space Center and all its exhibits, but cut my time there short so I could drive the 30 miles ... read more

Guess it's as good a time as any to get going here... I'm a photographer/writer and former freelance newspaperman. (Well, if the opportunity comes again I might still be a freelance newspaperman, but it seems less and less likely as time goes by, owing to a lack of newspapers.) For the last (mumble) years I've been based out of Houston, Texas, though that's changing - that "former freelance newspaperman" thing. My primary interest, at the moment, is Texas. It's my home state, I was born here, though the saner citizens won't often admit that (it WAS some time ago), and although our politics and our politicians are, well.... this is still a beautiful place to see and an interesting place to live. I actually have two existing web publications - well, three if you count my ... read more

This week took us to the Houston Zoo to meet brother and sister Take' and Li Ming. Take' has been at the zoo for a while longer than his sister, but doesn't seem to mind her moving in. While at the zoo, we had the opportunity to meet two of the keepers who work with the red pandas, Priscilla and Paul, and one of the supervisors of the Natural Encounters Department, Kamryn. They took us behind the scenes just before feeding time so that was an added bonus as well! While visiting with Take' and Li Ming, we learned a little about the pair and their lives at the Houston Zoo. In case you missed it, Houston is in Texas which means it gets hot. No, let me clarify. It gets HOT and HUMID. Not the ... read more
