Last night was an interesting one. It all started like a normal Friday night here. Around 5 when everyone has finished work for the week and the weekend has begun, everyone from the marina heads to Salty Mikes for a drink. Salty Mikes is the locals bar at the marina and is just a hole in the wall place, very rustic with a lot of character. We have enjoyed going there because it is a great place to meet other sailors and swap stories. Last night we made friends with a delivery captain and his crew. They have sailed all over the world, across the Atlantic and thru the Panama Canal 4 times, moving other people’s boats for them. He gave us great advice and taught us some new tricks, all over a couple of dark ... read more

The weather was nice for a few days, sun and mild winds. We had just packed up the boat enough to even consider going out, so it was time. The thought of going out by ourselves in an area we don’t know well and on a boat we are just starting to learn was a bit frightening. But we remembered how we felt with our last boat on the first few times out and realized that we could do it. We also we starting to feel the need and the desire to start the sailing trip and not just the provisioning trip. So we decided to go solo. We almost got there the first time. Keys in the ignition, lines ready, items all stowed. But at the last second, we decided a quick break to review ... read more

So here we are in Charleston, SC. We have finally made it across the country and have rendezvous with the boat. We can’t believe how busy we have been and how much we have done in the last week. So we arrived in Charleston late Tuesday night, exhausted from the trek across America. Of course it was too late to go over to the marina and board the boat, so we found a nice hotel in downtown Charleston for the night. The next morning we woke up excited and ready to see the rum runner. It was Boat Day! A day we have been planning and waiting for so long. So we went over to the marina, walked down the dock, and boarded the rum runner for the first time. And WOW!!! She is a beautiful ... read more

So, the first question we are asked everytime we talk to friends and family is, "Where are you now?" The unfortunate part is that even though we set out on this adventure almost 2 months ago, we have only been living on our boat for the last week. Yes, just a week. It took us a long time to pack up the house and move accross the country. Throw the holidays in there and an emergency medical class and that just about sums up the last two months. Oh how time flies. The second thing that friends and family commonly ask is, "When we are updating the blog?" I know it has been a while since our last entry and we were tempted to report on our drive accross America and the month we spent in ... read more

Beaufort (pronounced Byu-fert) is located at the heart of the Low Country of South Carolina. Just like the typical southern town, Beaufort is filled with Spanish Moss hanging off from any visible brances in any trees, old and new. As we were driving around the town to see annabellum houses across a lake and historical structures, we noticed that strong influence of Marine Corps was evident throughout the town. Parris Island (the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot) is only miles away. Parris Island is one of two locations, apart from MCRD San Diego California, where the recruit Marines go to bootcamp. Every recruits from east of the Mississippi River and all women have to fulfil their bootcamp in this island. After passing through the full inspection routine at the entrance of the island by a young Marine, ... read more

I've always heard that Atlanta rush hour traffic is one of the worst in the nation, but not until we were trapped in it, I realized how lucky I am, not to have to commute to work everyday like millions in Atlanta. Jason, Ryan and I were leaving for Savannah, Georgia right after work on Friday, and the traffic out from Atlanta was bad. How did driving through the 'Spaghetti Junction' sound like? Four hours later, we finally arrived in Savannah. Ryan has reserved a hotel in a somewhat sketchy area, and the accomodation is not something I can brag about here. Savannah is like a box of chocolate, or at least this is what I can conclude about the charming town after watching my favorite 'Forrest Gump'. In the movie, Forrest was sitting on a ... read more
