Thank the lord in heaven, I finally made it to a Starbucks and a wifi connection. The downside is I had to pay $4 for a two hour block. But $4 is a friggin blessing for high speed internet compared to what I've had available to me these past few weeks. It's amazing. You just click on a link and the page just opens instantly. Unbelievable. I'm catching up on all of my downloading tonight. ... read more

I forgot to mention that I found a good Sushi restaurant Dowtown last night. It looked like half the menu involved tempura or deep fried rolls, but it had all the essentials. Since South Carolina seems to be some sort of crab capitol, I opted for a roll with crab in it (that counts as eating local food, right?). I got something called the SC Crunch Roll, which had soft shell crab in a roll topped with shrimp and avocado and covered in sauce. I also got Salmon, because it's a compulsion with every Sushi outting. The fish was actually quite fresh and the rolls were really good. And the prices were about the same as any other sushi place I've been to anywhere, so I was quite contented. I swear I'll try some real South ... read more

Okee.. waar zal ik eens beginnen? :P .. ) jammer genoeg was ... read more

Did I mention that when a ship goes into dry dock that females become a scarce minority. There are about twleve women on the ship and about 900 contractors. Suddenly, one has never felt so self conscious than when walking into any room and having all eyes on you. And they aren't just staring, they're ogling. So far I've been called "deary", "baby doll" and "angel", and none of those terms seem very endearing when they are preceded by whistles or leers. So I've been spending some time off the ship considering all the guys I'm working with are staying at a hotel off the ship because they aren't regular shipboard personnel. So come 6pm, I don't even have drinking buddies or too many people to hang out with on the ship, which makes the female ... read more

We decided to spend most of hurricane season here in Charleston. And we are very thankful that our first hurricane season while living on the boat was a non-event. Although we did have one scare, when Ernesto was coming right towards us. But we battened down the hatches, secured the lines, and had ourselves a kickin’ hurricane party with all the other cruisers. In the end the winds of Ernesto died down significantly, the hurricane was down-graded to a tropical storm, and its path veered north of us. So we were spared- yeah! I am happy to report that it was no worse than a winter storm. Besides that, we have just been hanging out in Charleston with our friends here and exploring this great city. It has become our non-official home port and Salty Mikes ... read more

Charleston, South Carolina. I don't really know what to make of it at the moment, but the shipping yard we're residing in is not very exciting. I actually had the day off today, so I did manage to venture off the ship long enough and catch a ride to WalMart. But not just any WalMart. It was a supermart Wal Mart. I've never seen such a one stop shop for the masses in my humble, sheltered existence in Los Angeles. It was bigger than CostCo. So today I feel a bit refreshed because I didn't have to work. You're lucky I didn't have a chance to update yesterday because the constant work and lack of recreation was starting to take it's toll. The ship has become a giant construction zone, and I've been working everyday in ... read more

Romania is 38 days away and I am getting excited about what God is going to do!!! Our airline tickets arrived this past week and we will be flying out of Greenville and back into Greenville on our trip. Some things have changed in our plans. A group that was suppossed to go a week or so before us, now isnt going. So we are going to be doing alot of concrete work in Ghida to meet the European Union's standards of housing. It is almost time for all of our money to be turned in. We are doing pretty good. We have almost all of our money raised! In a few weeks, Regan & I are going to do a presentation at his parents church in Forest City, NC and hopefully get a love offering ... read more

The last hours are always the hardest as I realize who and what I am leaving behind. I feel sort of sick in my stomach it is a mixture of extreme excitement and sadness. I am fine as long as no one else starts crying. But then the floodgates open and it is hard for me to stop. Thank you to all who came to my going away party it meant a lot to me to have you pray for and send me off with love I am going to miss you all. ... read more
