Our next stop north is Beaufort, South Carolina. This is a charming town with lots of history. During the Civil War, the North was going to invade and destroy the town. Fortunately the people of Beaufort knew that the Union troops were coming, so they fled. Because the town was abandoned when the troop arrived, they didn’t destroy the buildings and that is why today there are more antebellum homes in Beaufort than any other county in South Carolina. The result is a picturesque town with giant antebellum homes overlooking the river banks. It proved to be a fun place to stop and explore. One of our favorite things we did there was a free walking tour around town. This is where we learned the history of Beaufort and got to admire all the beautiful homes. ... read more

We went white water rafting for a family vacation. We stayed in the Oconee state park. I had a great time. I love white water rafting. The water was really low so we spent more time pulling people off rocks then falling over rapids but the ones we did go over were amazing. We did other great things like swim through under water tunnels and jump off cliffs. It was a beautiful river. I spent a lot of time thinking about what early americans must have felt when they travled through the area. How amazing it must have been for Lewis and Clark. I was not going risk my camera to the fate of the cameras from the movie Deliverance ,which was filmed on these rapids, which now sit on the bottom. The pictures are from ... read more

Last Tuesday, June 27th Hope and I hopped in the Mustang for a 12 hour trip to Tega Cay, South Carolina, where lives the majority of Hope's family. The perceived emphasis of our trip was to spend time with Hope's mother, Linda, while she recovered from post breast cancer reconstructive surgery. We are very glad to report that Linda is doing quite well and should be fully abreast in the next couple of weeks. Needless to say, the Little One and I had a lot of fun and of course stirred up the southern drawling folks of this rapidly developing, "hot as balls," (Hopes term) southern town. Our trip started with the top down and the Sirius Satellite Radio cranked as we cruised down 75 to the Ohio turnpike, to the 77 all the way to ... read more
