Dropped off the compost in our garden. Said farewell to my beautiful foam flowers, vinca, coreopsis, bleeding hearts, gardenia, peonies, and daisies. Safely arrived to Philly International. Caused a heated discussion between security officers when I announced the score. "M-E-T-S! We got the series!" said Security. Found a seat at the bar, watched the third period of the fight between the penguins and the flyers. Saw a gaggle of EF travelers. Beautifully comfortable flight to Miami. Looking forward to basking in the moonlight!!!... read more

As I get older I seem to get more and more excited, no sick, when departure day rolls around. I have learned to take a happy pill the day we fly and not only does it keep me from needlessly worrying, but it also knocks me out on the plane. The only time I take my Alprazolam is when I fly. I need some stress to keep me going in the rest of my life. The worst part of every trip is having to take our four legged friends to their accomodations. They know the minute we bring down our suitcases that they are going to Doggie Camp. As they get older I feel worse each time about leaving them for days or even weeks while we're off having a great time. The one consolation is ... read more

What can I say? Next to New York, Philladelphia was just as colorful. My trip to Philadelphia was definitely one of the best travel experiences I've had so far...given that I'm still in High School. I had tons of fun. It was four days of only me, my friends, and the coolest Model UN adviser in the planet!!! Can't wait for my next trip!... read more

1/3 of my traveling is over! I'm just sitting at the Philadelphia airport waiting for my next flight to board! So far the whole journey has been great! I barely had to wait for my flight to board in Dallas, and on the flight the seat next to me was the only empty one! I got all the room I needed for the 3 and a half hour flight. Now, I'm in Phili listening to the Beatles playing on the loud speakers! I've been listening to them the entire plane ride and probably will for the rest of the journey. I started the book "The Hunger Games" and am already half way through it after the last plane ride. Its a great book for traveling and seems like a really quick read. I have a great ... read more

“Quick hurry up take the photo I’m about to pull a back muscle” were the exact words I told Robert Parish as he stood behind me with my camera. I was looking down Benjamin Franklin Parkway with my arms reaching for the sky after completing the famous Rocky steps towards the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I felt a bit of a hypocrite really because to be honest I can’t remember sitting through an entire Rocky movie. Still this run is a must with a visit to Philadelphia. Between New York and DC it was a long time between visiting an American big city of the east coast so sightseeing I welcomed. Philly provides enough for a few days experience. The Liberty Bell can have a line up but at 430pm there’s virtually no one. The bell ... read more

So we were so shattered from our day at Six Flags yesterday that we didn't get to update the blog, so once again, this will be a combined blog of the last couple of days! We were up early yesterday at 6:30am, as we had planned to catch the 318 bus from Philadelphia to Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. We got washed and dressed before having some cereal for breakfast. We had read some reviews for Six Flags online, and many people were moaning that you have to pay for the lockers to put your bags in before the rides, so we just took things with us that we could carry in our pockets - unfortunately, this meant that we couldn't take the camera, so we don't have any pictures from this day, but ... read more

Yesterday, we were up early at around 7am as we needed to be ready and out to catch our Megabus to Philadelphia. We had bought some yoghurt and a muffin for our breakfast the previous night, so we ate those once we were dressed, before packing up any last things into our bags and cases. We left our room and checked out at reception at around 9am. We caught the subway down to Penn Station, realising that we had timed it slightly wrong and had 45 minutes or so before we actually needed to be at the bus stop (although it's better to be early than late!). We went into Starbucks for a little while, as for some reason there are NO seats in that train station anywhere other than in eateries and coffee shops! We ... read more

I have now spent 2 1/2 days in Philadelphia & have loved it. The sun has been shining & there has been lots to see to keep me busy. I have seen the Liberty bell, taken the tour of Independence Hall & seen the oldest alley in the US that has been continuously inhabited. On top of that I visited the Eastern Penitentiary & was guided through the old prison & its history. I have tasted a Philly Cheesesteak & eaten at the Reading Terminal market. So it has been an educational & culinary experience. ... read more

We arrived in Philadelphia yesterday late afternoon and found our way from the station via the subway to the hostel which was in the old quarter of the city. This was the one I was dreading as it was a shared dorm! The actual hostel was in an old building down a back alley but was a really nice and bright inside. They even provided ear plugs free of charge!! The night’s sleep was better than expected, but still awkward and I think Howard has now learnt his lesson and will not make that mistake again!! The thing that really struck me about Phili was how friendly and helpful everyone was, the guy at the subway gave us a map, told us how to use the system and which train we needed, every time we looked ... read more
