Early morning i was very excited to take the train to Philadelphia because i used to enjoy the free first class long distance train trips in India because of my father who worked for central railways. Philadelphia was a metro city with skyscrapers and busy life. So we were no more in country side but a crowded metropolitan city. We went to Reading Terminal Market for lunch and enjoyed the trip to the city Hall. We were fortunate to be taken to the top where the statue of William Penn is because it gives a view of the entire city. Philadelphia City Hall is the house of government for the city of Philadelphia, in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. At 548 ft (167 m), including the statue of city founder William Penn atop it, it was the ... read more

Geo: 39.9522, -75.1624When we were here fours years ago, we visited most of theimportant sites in the City. We enjoyed learning about the early days of the formatiion of the coloniesand about the early constitution of the newly independent United States. The National Constitution Centre was well worth a visit. There was a hugeamount to read but it was worthwhile taking the time to read the captions andfind out how easily it could all be so different. The thirteen statescould very well be thirteen different countries.A visit to rest of the Historic Park, a World Heritage Site, with the IndependenceHall as the centrepiece was highly educational. We saw the world-famous(cracked!) Liberty Bell and learned more than we ever wanted to know aboutBenjamin Franklin. But we did all that last time. So, on this visit, while Hamish ... read more

Still Oct 30th, this was a loooong day! Arrived at Philadelphia airport, a little late and in a lonair rafts aircraft waiting to arrive at their gate. After a long wait, arrived at the gate and ran to customs to join the long line, way too long, panic set in as due to the delay we had a really tight transit and had to re-check our bags for the flight down to MIA , started to give up hope, then a line started to move a little more quickly, got thru customs to find no message up on screen for our bags, Alex eventually found them by this time our flight was boarding, ran to check our bags and got stuck behind the slowest dimmest old couple with the most hand luggage, belts, shoes, metal plates, ... read more

Geo: 39.9522, -75.1624 Up early and went to the Independence National Historical Park. We saw the Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was written and signed. After that, we went to Congress Hall where the first Congress began meeting. We later went to the Amtrak station to drop off the keys to our last car. The station is pretty nice. Stacy has determined that she is catching a cold now. It is not the same cold that I had, hopefully. The next morning we took the subway back to the National Park to see the Liberty Bell. It was pretty cool to see the bell. You can easily see the crack in the bell. Funny to find out that the bell was cast in England! After this, we walked to Washington Square to see a ... read more

Geo: 39.9522, -75.1624 We got up Thursday morning, grabbed a bus and headed toward the Hudson River. We went to the USS Intrepid, a retired aircraft carrier. We took a nice tour of the ship. It has a lot of planes on display on its deck. It also has the space shuttle Enterprise on its deck in a special tent. That thing is huge! It made all of the other planes look like toys. After the tour we grabbed a bus and headed to the Frick museum. The museum is actually the house that the Frick family lived in until they donated it to the city. It is a beautiful house built in the 19th century. The family collected a lot of art, especially small bronze statues. It was very impressive. After that we headed home ... read more

July 6, 2013 With only a few hours before we had to catch our flight back to Orlando we decided to go on the Red & White tour bus to see some of Philadelphia. The line to see the Liberty Bell was so long, so we’ll have to go back another day to see it.... read more

PHILADELPHIA here we go again - once in a while (well to be honest it happens a lot) we just get this craving for Philly cheesesteaks - thinly sliced meat, onions and dripping cheese, etc, etc, etc. And since Philly is just a couple hours away and the home of the cheesesteak we try and make it out there as often as we can. It was cold, dreary and rainy in Stamford so off we went for an overnight stay in Philly. First up was the restuarant "10 Arts" by Eric Ripert. Nikkie love Ripert and "just happen" to know that he has a restaurant in Philly. It is a very typical hotel restaurant (in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton) with views of the hotel lobby. We started with the raw oysters and seafood chowder (very ... read more

This blog will be super short with no photographs. Our staging information was super-secret…. So if we to tell you about it, we would have to kill ya! Just kidding. The staging consisted of paperwork, motivation and building rapport between volunteers. We did group skits and obtained valuable information about the PC (yes, we are down to initials) and Morocco from very enthusiastic and knowledgeable people. Morocco sounds fantastic, mystical and challenging. (All of which we knew already… but this was reinforced with gusto!) After the initial meet and greet, we broke up into two groups of about 50. So, after an ice-breaker exercise with all 100 volunteers, we got to know about 50 people much better. How? The group shared its anxieties and aspirations and did a lot of laughing. The bottom line of staging ... read more

Before we begin this chapter of our lives and blog, we would ask each of you reading along, to please consider being a “subscriber” to our blog. By doing so, you will be showing your support for us in our new adventure and letting us know who is following along. We would really appreciate the motivation. Also, by subscribing, you to get an email when we have done an update so that you don’t have to try to view it if there is nothing new. Our goal is to update everyone at least once a week while we are in Morocco. Inshallah! (God willing!) That being said, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. So, we are already in engaging in new habits - - Ann is learning MS Word (weaning off Word Perfect) and Clay is ... read more
