Initially, I was just looking for a place to stay to break up the trip from the coast over to Crater Lake. Eugene had no vacancies because of graduation at the university. I ended up contacting a guy who had three riverfront cottages exactly halfway. Randy was a little over-the-top in his description of the cottages and the available hiking to multiple waterfalls http://www.rivervista-vacationhomes.com/, but I'm ahead of myself... Ruth is in her zone with a map in her lap and the latest pamphlet in her hand indicating where we want to stop next. She tracked down a brochure with good birding spots in Oregon, so it served for our way-finding. After taking in a few hikes to view some waterfalls, we stopped at a place also known to have a herd of elk. Sure enough, ... read more

Geo: 43.2167, -123.341If yesterday was special, today just blew my socks off. This country never ceases to amaze me. Why didn't they tell us about this in school? We left Medford this morning at 8:00 AM and 50 degrees and headed for Crater Lake National Park. As we set on our way, it was overcast and the mountains were hidden in the clouds. We drove through areas that reminded us of small towns in Maine. Shady Cove has no chain restaurants but rather Mom and Pop businesses like Ma's Restaurant, Pat's Hand Tied Flies (my brother Dick would have had to stop in there for sure), Callie's Pizza and Mac's Diner. We saw a lot of pine trees and maple trees and ranch houses. And even though it is June 12th, the grass has yet to turn ... read more

We were able to head out on 138 yesterday and see a few sights. The rivers and waterfalls were amazing. Seeing them with Ice and snow made them look kinda like the paint pots in yellowstone... We were hoping to see more of the covered bridges but turns out we took the wrong direction. Oh, well. That will just be on the list for Next time we hit this area. We really like Twin Rivers RV Park and want to stay here again. There is a lot to explore in the area. Last night we drove through the Festival of Lights which is right across the street from the park. It was really a great display - and Allie LOVED it! It was just about as entertaining watching her enjoy it as it was to actually ... read more

After a long and arduous battle, the house is sold! Those of you who know us best know the struggle that we went through to finally be able to follow our dream. That dream, of course, is to hook up a fifth wheel and blow this popsicle stand we call the northwest to explore the united states. Aside from a minor snafu that almost left us stranded for an additional 3 days, we have purchased our 2007 Carriage Cameo and left Washington on December 10th. Bob was pretty nervous about driving down the road with a building behind us. He's also nervous about driving it in traffic, backing up, pulling in to a site, driving at night.... you get the idea. Of course my sudden and loud gasps for air didn't help his confidence any! We ... read more
