A dream wedding, dream honeymoon and we get to come home to another incredible party!? In a word it was breathtaking. Obviously it was our party so OF COURSE I'm going to think that, but I wasn't the only one. The entire setup was just gorgeous and fun too! I couldn't have done any of it without the help of my Reception Angels at home making it all possible. As anyone who has planned a wedding reception knows it is a large undertaking and thanks to Aunt Valerie, Katherine, Grandma, Kristi and Mom it all came together magically. I had fallen in love with the Oregon Golf Club the summer before our reception and I couldn't get it out of my mind. It is in a beautiful location in West Linn overlooking the valley and Mt. ... read more

Really am going to miss this Portland summer. There seems to be this universal understanding that Portland is just dreary all the time. Well it is not. The summers here, which start around the end of June, are simply amazing. It is about 76 degrees just slightly overcast and a 70 degree breeze is blowing through out of the west at about 5mph. Idyllic. I am in the back yard, just finished the last of the yard work, sitting in the rocker. If it wasn't for the mowers running it would feel like my own personal park. We have been packing up and getting ready for our move and road trip. So far so good. The POD is here, 16ftx7x7 and that needs to hold everything we are going to move. It will be close, but ... read more

There's no place like home...... There's no place like home! Well I have been in the states for 5 weeks now it has gone quick. I hope you are missing me just a little bit if not a lot. I am feeling a little homesick not enough to want to come home I still have things to do, places to go and people to see. One reason is Portland is kinda similar to Manchester. Its a big difference to Vegas and the dessert a lot more green for a start. There is a nice chilled feeling to the city. One thing i have noticed is their is a lot of Punks and Crusties like Manchester in the mid 90's a lot of them begging or busking. I have mainly walked around Portland today searched out somewhere ... read more

This week I finished classes, graduated, and had a wonderful graduation party! Thank you to all who were able to come and be a part of it! School On Tuesday I went to my last class, finished my last paper on Wednesday, and on Thursday I presented my internship work to the department faculty and colleagues. For the organizational experience component of my program I was the Volunteer Coordinator for Oregon's Hostelling International council (HI-Oregon). I began working with them in January and hope to continue to volunteer with the travel programs in the future. I am applying for jobs right now with local nonprofits and local government agencies in the Portland area but we leave for Central America in a couple weeks so I hope to start work in August shortly after we get back. ... read more

Due to our adventures through Oregon, we arrived in Portland fairly late and went to bed. The next morning we woke up to a rainy day, but unphased we headed out on foot for the rose test gardens, and japanese gardens. After an hour of walking we realized we had missed the path we were meant to take in the first 2 minutes of walking (to be fair, the map our hostel provided us was HORRIBLE and not even remotely to scale). We called a cab and got our car. We went to powells, the largest bookstore in... the world? (we obviously do our research...) we each found some good books, and relaxed in the cafe for a bit. From here we went to the rose festival, which turned out to be just a crappy, overpriced ... read more

Portland We arrived in Portland and started browsing for a spot. We found one that seemed to be in the middle of things. The parking spots were long, enough for two cars. (we later find out that this is the function of the parking spots. on our second day, we also learn from a seemingly grumpy, parking lot keeper that for us to park our motorhome and take up two spaces means we should be paying $60, whereas we were paying normal rates of $10 and $5. as we were leaving on our bikes to go to the park, he made this evident. he was ever so gracious to extend us the favor of a minimal $21 fee which would last us through the day into the next morning, which is what the normal rate gets ... read more

It's always great to wake up at a friends place, especially one you haven't seen for a while and that's how it was for us at Martha's. Breakfast was a long drawn out affair because it became a talkfest but we managed to stir ourselves to get ready to catch the bus downtown - eventually. With a bus stop almost outside the front door it was all very convenient, and, for us it was interesting to check out the environment along the way. Once off the bus we headed towards the Willamette River and wandered along the riverside park with other tourists and some locals, many of whom were mothers with small children. By now the temperature had warmed up somewhat - almost record heat for Portland at this time of the year. And before long ... read more

Well I thought I should write and tell everyone about my exciting last couple of weeks. First of is I found a job... that means I'm about to enter the world of responsibility... how scary. Now the good news, my first assignment is to take summer vacation. My job doesn't start until September. I am going to be a full time instructor at Portland Community College. I am going to be teaching about the equivalent freshman and sophomore circuits and EE classes. Should bring back good memories. (Pogue I think there is a joke here for you to write) So now I have summer vacation to deal with. I guess now I'm bragging because I have a month long road trip planned and then 2+ weeks kayaking the Grand Canyon. I guess it is good to ... read more

Editor's note This is just a text-only update -- for now. We will "quiet publish" -- that is, update without pestering you with another email -- this entry by adding pictures later tonight or tomorrow...whenever we get wherever it is we may end up going today. Writing this on Wednesday the 21st, Judy has offered to help the others catch up on their last few days and has plopped herself down on the sofa next to Bob Hawkins. "You expect me to talk?" he asks. So of course, he does. "So far, the trip has been educational and fun, comments Bob. The turbulence, I think, has strained all of us and the weather is certainly a challenge. Allocating three weeks was certainly not enough. it takes four weeks to do this. The new airports and new ... read more
