Oklahoma City We are up at 4.30am to catch the 2 buses (No:6 & 10) to the Greyhound station for the 7.20am nine hour trip to Oklahoma City (OKC) via Dallas where we have to change. The journey goes to time but the buses are the worst condition we've been on by far; dirty seats, many broken and no chargers or internet. The driver for the second leg, Mr Bridges, is a star though; he runs the bus like a ship but he also jokes with all the passengers and says a prayer for safe journeys at the start and end of the journey - to which we all say "Amen!!" He clearly missed his vocation he should have been a preacher – he’d make a good one as well. In Oklahoma ... read more

Of course, the best part of any trip are the people we meet along the way. Oklahoma was no different. We first went to my mom’s first cousin, Bill. Bill is the son of my grandmother’s younger brother. Bill offered for us to stay at his house and we accepted that offer. Bill and his wife were waiting for us. We relaxed a bit and a cousin of Bel’s came around to meet his Cali cousin. Bill: I’ve known Bill since I was little. He was always the one to take us around the area. This time was no different as he was generous enough to take all of us to the Boggy Depot area. Bill took us, also to see the old home place and the school mentioned in the previous blog. Another cousin, Barbra ... read more

Kerry's 1st entry. I have a day off the driving today so it's a chance to have a little snooze in the back of the car and enjoy the sights out the window. We left boots court motel in Carthage just before 9am after little sleep, the room was a little bit too cold for my liking but then I'm always cold. The motel was lovely very small and authentic 1930's style. We drove down to Kansas state briefly which Katie got very excited about as it's part of some wizard of oz quote. I'll take her word for it! The next part of the drive was via a bridge called rainbow bridge it was a good photo opportunity and then on to the worlds largest McDonald's. I was looking forward to this immensely, not only ... read more

Oklahoma' Lake Murray Resort Park is a treasure! We had a wonderful time exploring this park in February. An easy drive north from Fort Worth, but a world away from the rush of the city! We had a great time exploring and visiting with family in February. First stop was the ATV camp area. The muddin' playground was open for business! The sunshine after weeks of rainy days was the perfect weather for the local off-road /all-terrain enthusiasts. The parking lot was filling quickly with pickup trucks, cattle trailers, open trailers and any other means for hauling 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers to the park. With over 1,000 acres of mostly boggy mud, the fun times begin. Families arrived in groups with participants ranging from toddlers to grandparents and everyone was smiling in anticipation of the adventure. This ... read more

Just like any other morning. I went to McDonalds for a sausage biscuit then started my long drive to Israel. Felt good to see all the same people at the coffee shop before I entered an unknown space. There was about two inches of snow on the ground in Independence, so I was not sure what to expect as I headed south. However, the roads became clearer as I went south and there is no snow at all in Tulsa. I hope that bodes well for the weather back East. I leave at noon for a three hour flight to Washington D.C., on a small jet. Arrive at Dulles International at 4 pm then on to JFK in NY at 5:30 pm arriving about 7 pm. They want us at the international terminal by 8:30 pm, ... read more

Osteology is the study of bones. I mention this because one of my facebook friends said "sounds boring" and then looked it up to see what it meant (clearly not a Nurse or in the medical field). For others, some people have heard osteoarthritis. If you think of that word, then you may come to the conclusion of what osteology is. In particular, this museum holds a lot of animal bones. It came about from a boy and his childhood passion/hobby. It is very informative museum for both the young and old. If you are in the area or would like to take the kids out for a couple of hours, this would be a great place to spend it.... read more

Reflections (warning: some political commentary) We drove about 4000 miles on this trip, more than we would have liked, but unavoidable given the distances between points. In this area of the world, points of interest are far apart, and there is really no way to experience them without driving. As in Europe, I was struck by the difference in the Canadian investment in infrastructure and the amount invested in the United States. Roads were well maintained, smooth, and well marked. Bridges were often new. Those on the political right like to cry out about the financial burden we are leaving to our children with the national debt. While I agree that there is reason to be concerned about that, it is pretty obvious that the way out of that problem is to increase revenues, not simply ... read more

The one about The Oklahoma Memorial Last night I went back to the casino again for about 2 hours. I played on $20 for the longest time, all those video reels I love, and when I finally started to go into my money I stopped. I had my free soda, my free ice-cream, and got a shuttle to take me back to the RV row by 8:30. Not much on TV so I spent time writing until I fell asleep sitting upright at my dinette. I guess I missed Big Brother. Again, this bratty Winston dog had me up early. All he wants to do is get me up, go out and pee, then curl back up on my bed under the a/c vent. GROWL. I was ready to go at 7:30, but I couldn’t leave ... read more

The one about things seen along the road and a great casino (((Sorry, too tired to do a real good job proofreading, sorry if this is a tough read tonight)) I thought Winston was finally adjusted to CDT. Not so, as he had me up at 5 this morning. I did manage to snooze until 6, but he was a PAIN in the patootie. I love my new RV it is so easy to break camp. I took him for a long walk, showered and was on the road before 8:30. I planned to drive 300+ miles today, my longest day to date. Cross Little Rock off the bucket list, not that it was ever on a bucket list, but I’ve done it now!! Glad I did, a very cute little town, and I recommend it. ... read more
