OK the theme seems to be …sorry this is a long one…so sorry this is a long one. We left Vancouver last Thursday morning and managed to negotiate the local taxi (driven by a Fijian) to the seabus and the skytrain and arrived at the airport without incident then flew to New York City. The flight itself was uneventful until about one hour out of Newark airport and the plane hit some “dead air” and dropped a bit causing the usual “please return to your seats and put on your seat belts” message but for some reason the plane seemed to be struggling along in the dead air when the next announcement came over “federal law states that you must be aware of the location of the emergency exits on this aircraft” Hey way to go ... read more

I’m always fascinated with New York. So, in this post, I’m going to talk about my last trip to New York, which was in February 2017. Yes, I always go there in time for the New York Fashion Week. Besides NYFW, I love revisiting the place because of the Wall Street’s skyscrapers and the neon lights of Times Square. I enjoy walking, jogging and running in the leafy paths of Central Park. I feel so alive every time I arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport and see the yellow NY taxi. This is a center of fashion, media, entertainment, and finance. It has world-class museums and remarkable icons. But I also try the subtle sights and visit some trendy bars and ethnic shops, as well as simple eateries that add to the beauty of the ... read more

Suzanne here... We'd not had long enough in either Baltimore or Philadelphia really. But we didn't have any flexibility. We'd booked our hotel in New York months ago. It was still eye-wateringly expensive, as New York always is, but a slightly better rate than booking last minute. Amtrak was more comfortable than the Greyhound. The journey passed smoothly and before long we were at Penn Station. On the way to the metro station, David patiently waited outside Sephora for me while I did a bit of shopping. The branch in Phily had been closed and I'd long ago decided to treat myself before we left the States. Very unlike me, I'm far from a make-up addict. But sometimes it's nice to try new things and overall I've not bought much on this trip. We bought metro ... read more

When I got the save-the-date note from Miyako, we booked the flight to New York while in Central Oregon! Something like this wasn’t gonna wait. She and her family took care of me during my first-ever college internship in Tuxedo, NY. It’s been 20 years since then. Such an honor to be invited! Thu/Fri: Stress of a lifetime, saved by the wedding It all started on Thursday morning when I got an Airbnb message from my host saying that they can't take us anymore. Whaaat?!?! This is after taking it up to Airbnb for lack of response all this week. I knew something was off. We're leaving on a red-eye this evening. We literally have hours to figure out an alternative!! Putting work aside, I looked through last minute availabilities, requested a sound alternative, and waited ... read more

Macht mal schöne Fotos, wenn euer Motiv stän ... read more

When I said previously that the bucket list of brave and reckless things to do should include driving in Manhattan, there is one thing that needs to be added to the list, namely getting in a taxi and letting him do the driving in Manhattan. We hailed one of the larger cabs as we were heading to the airport and needed to accommodate all our luggage. Our taxi driver was a psychopath. He spent most of the time half way between two lanes, all of the time right up against the cars in front and was constantly switching from one lane to another. He was, however, obviously not that experienced as a New York cab driver as he only used his horn twice, although there were a constant barrage of horns coming from all around us. ... read more

We kept the curtains open overnight as it is not very often that the view whilst you are laying in your bed is of something as dramatic and iconic as the Empire State Building. Even with the windows shut, there is still all the car horns, sirens and general Manhattan noises to content with. I made a second attempt to get to Brooklyn and all went well. After the trauma of yesterday the right train arrived almost immediately and went straight to where I wanted to do, so I was there in under half an hour. There seemed to be more people sleeping on the train than actually traveling on it, but I suppose going round-and-round on the train overnight is better than the streets. Shocking, but I guess I can’t entirely blame Donald Trump for ... read more

I got up early to go to Brooklyn for some early morning pictures of Downtown Manhattan. Well that was the plan. Every way I went there was some kind of problem, either weekend engineering works for late night restrictions. I got on a train that would eventually take me in the right direction, albeit with a subsequent change, but it suddenly changed to an express (one minute the next station was Union Street, then it suddenly changed to 25th Street. Consequently I skipped past the station I wanted and had to make an extra change and come back again. By the time I got where I wanted to go it was too late and I was extremely frustrated. The frustration was not helped by the information screens on the platforms. They seem to show everything except ... read more
