Life is good....very good. We are still at our rented cottage on Keuka Lake. Only a few more days to enjoy this easy living life we have become accustomed to. Hope you have found yourselves relaxed and liking this experience. It’s so much more fun knowing you are swimming right along with us. We heard your panicked screams as you entered the chilly water but once you immersed yourself, we heard your screams of joy. Yahoo. We found it easier floating around when the waves were calm....but we also liked the rocking sensation when they were flapping against us. “The seas were angry that day, my friend!” I haven’t decided which float I like the best....they are all good. Today was the first day that felt like a road trip after weeks of moving and packing! The truck was finally loaded, we were heading west, the sun was shining and XM Classic Rock was playing on the radio. All the old carefree feelings of being out on the open road came flooding back! We left Sherrill in Central New York towards our first destination, Letchworth State Park, rated the #1 State Park in the country and known as the Grand Canyon of the East. Reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we were ready to be blown away, which is probably never a good thing. It was really pretty as the photos will attest but not quite up to the hype. To be fair, this is early Spring and we only visited for half a day. ... read more

Dawn and I wanted to take a trip to see fall color. It was also time to visit friends and relatives in Buffalo and Rochester. So it made sense to take a trip to the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The best fares were on Delta this time. I wanted to start the trip in Buffalo, then drive to Rochester and spend the night. From there we would go to Watkins Glen and spend one night and then on to Letchworth State Park for one night. Since we were only go to spend three nights I booked us on an early flight on Friday and a late flight returning on Monday. This gave us three full days of sight seeing and visiting. We took off from Houston Intercontinental at 9am, connected through Atlanta, and ... read more

October 4, 2013 Last night we stayed in a motel in Skaneateles, New York, by Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. If a breakfast isn't provided with our room we try to eat where the locals eat and this strategy worked again this morning...good food and service at a nondescript diner in town. It was misty and gray for a few hours this morning but 73 degrees most of the day. Most of our views today were quite muted, but still nice. We drove down the length of Cayuga Lake from Scenic Highway 20 and then back up to 20 along Seneca Lake. The Finger Lakes region is full of wineries, breweries, chocolate factories, cheese companies, produce stands, marinas, and resorts. I think the people that vacation here or live here have a lot of ... read more

Hills, there's a lot of hills here-a-bouts. Short hills with some steep sections. One, which I went down with the brakes carefully applied, hit a 19% grade according to the GPS. More than one or two I pushed the bike up.... It is fall here and the trees are changing. Muted colors this year, warm and dry. Great bicycling weather though. Lots of real farms, cows and corn. Miles and miles of winding country roads, many with very few cars. Pratt's Falls is a nice little county park with lots of picnic spots and wooded views of a small waterfall. A hot air balloon inflated and took off while I chilled after the 20 mile roller-coaster ride. Kellish Hill Farm is a wonderful music venue owned and run by Kathy Kellish. She's harnessed the power of ... read more

Friday, September 14th This foggy morning we took showers and did the laundry at the RV park as it was cheap (paid $8.25 for wash plus drying of everything) so it was late when we left. Continued along highway 18 that was thick with apple orchards being harvested many of which had U-pick days. Stopped at one orchard/store/restaurant to look around and have lunch; it also had simple rides, stuff for kids to play on, and an animal farm. Apparently, many of the pre-schools and kindergarten classes had field trips that came here as the restaurant was filled with children’s thank you notes. Maneuvered around Rochester keeping as close as we could to highway 18, but lost the signs somewhere and wound up on highway 104. It was a very busy freeway heading east out of ... read more

July 25, 2011 Touring wineries was on the agenda today. We stopped at several wineries and then the weather turned on us and a storm blew in. We ended up having lunch at the same place where we took the boat cruise the night before. We also stopped at a cheese store which was on the way home and located just a few miles before getting into Buffalo. Our friends dropped us off at the hotel so since we didn’t have a car anymore, we just stayed in for the evening and walked over to the Denny’s for dinner. ... read more

July 24, 2011 This morning we headed out to the wine country, in the Finger Lakes. We had two sets of friends with us in two cars and we met up at our hotel which is the Best Western Airport Inn. Along the way we stopped at a hamburger place called Wahl’s. OMG the best burger I have found in a long while (of the fast food type, of course). The onion rings were also perfect. Our first stop was the Sonnenburg Gardens, Winery and Mansion. The grounds are beautiful and the mansion was decorated in the period for when the owner lived there. We did get to have a quick sample of 5 wines. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay there a long time since we had to get to Penn Yan. We arrived in Penn Yan ... read more

We went up to Erin, New York where Shawn's grandfather lives. It was the last weekend in February and still the dead of winter. We drove up from Erin to Ithaca. Along the lakes there is a waterfall called Tunkhannock Falls. We saw this waterfall last fall when all the leaves were changing around it. It is just as beautiful frozen in winter. I love this area. We go to Ithaca at least a few times a year to go the wineries and drive along the finger lakes. Ithaca is a neat little hippie college town that has Cornell University. We like to go the restaurants and have seen plays at Ithaca college. It is truly one of our favorite places on earth. ... read more
