Whats going on readers? Its been a mad couple of weeks and its certainly taken its toll- didn't feel great after so much partying, so little sleep, so much money and all the guilt that comes with missing 3 weeks straight of a 10 week uni quarter. My last entry was right after hawaii which seems like such a distant memory now, even tho it was only a couple weeks back. Like i said last time, i had just over a day between getting back from hawaii and leaving for vegas. I managed to squeeze in everything i needed to get done (both assignments, 6 hours of lectures and a little sleep). Caught the train up to LA to meet up with my cousin Nathan in the afternoon where he picked me up in his car and we made the (now familiar) 5 hour drive out to Vegas. Got in around 11pm which was good timing coz thats when vegas gets fun. Checked in and ate quickly then met all his friends downtown (theres 2 parts of vegas; the strip which you see in pictures and downtown which is more old-school and was around before the strip got big). The reason
Family
Me, Karsten (2nd cousin) and Nathan (cousin). Imagine how hard it was convincing girls we are actually all related. we were there was Nathans fraternity reunion so was around 20 mostly 25-28 year olds ex-frat boys from Colorado. I thought it might be weird hanging out with the 'oldies' but turns out they really knew how to have a good time. They also threw money around like it was their job. My 2nd cousin was also there who i hadn't seen for 7 years and he has quite a reputation as a guy who knows how to party. I'd say he surpassed his reputation.
Within about 5 minutes of getting there we found ourselves in one of the less-classy strip clubs so as soon as i arrived i knew it was going to be a good weekend. I played a bit of blackjack as usual but they also taught me how to play craps, pai-gow poker and a few games i'd never done. Gambled for a while and hit up the bars til about 3 when everyone decided to pack it in...except me. I figured i'd go check out a club or two before calling it a night. Can't really remember exactly what happened but checking out the pictures the next morning says it was farkin fun (My cousin
Downtown Vegas
This is the older part of town but still heaps of fun calls this phenomenon "time travelling" when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you remember was well before you went to bed). Think i got back to hotel at midday.
Second night had a great dinner at ???? then went back to Studio 54. My second cousin won about $1800 on one hand that day so there were plenty of shots on him. I remember leaving when it closed but not too sure after that- guess i probably went home. Hooked up with a few nice girls that night but admittedly one 'bucket of yuk'.
Next day, woke up and was dragged to another strip club. As a rule i don't tend to go to titty bars before dinner but who was i to argue. Fantastic dinner at the Venetian, followed by another night on the tables and after hit up another club. Plenty of shenanigans that night. Spent a lot of time trying to pick up groups of girls to share with my friends which worked pretty good coz of the accent.
Overall, a lot of its a blur but i'd have to say one of the best weekends of my life! Big call i know,
but i'm sticking with it.
After i got back, had a few days of class then on thursday headed up to LA. First night i met up with a girl from Australia who lives in LA that i'd met on my travels. Had a decent night out at a hole in the wall bar in 'the valley' but not much to tell. Spent saturday with tristen's girlfriend, Lex, and drove up the coast. Went to Malibu, Venice Beach and a few other places. Next day went to see my cousin again, plus his parents who flew in from Colordado for the weekend. We drove up to Santa Barbara which is north of LA to check out the wine country (LA's answer to Margaret River). Was really nice scenery and did a lot of wine tasting. Don't reckon its better than aussie wine tho. Also for anyone whos seen the movie Sideways, we went to most of the wineries they went to in movie. Was a little tipsy and tired by the end of the day so took it easy that night in front of the XBox360 on a huge HD widescreen at my cousins. Next day did some cultural stuff-
Walt Disney concert hall, museum of contemporary art, then some sightseeing in hollywood. Went home that night which was the end of a great couple of weeks. Shame i had to do some exams when i got back.
At the moment, i've got about 3 weeks left here in San Diego which sucks coz the time has gone so fast. I really don't want to leave but all good things come to an end. And who am i to complain coz next is europe for 5 months. Hope you're all doing good and looking forward to catching up with everyone at the end of the year.
