Trouble with the law
This is the "sobriety checkpoint" that caused us so much trouble Hey everyone, whats happening. Its my second last day in San Diego and I must say its really hard to be leaving. Its been such a great 6 months and made heaps of friends so pretty hard to say goodbye to everyone. Thought I'd do one last entry before i head off backpacking without my computer coz i don't know when and if i'll be keeping this up. Tomorrow I leave for the family home in Wisconsin where i'll be spending a week with family, with relatives from the US and also my parents who are also going around the world as well. Will be nice to relax, play some golf and sit on the balcony by the lake. After that going to New York for a week where I think i'm meeting up with the scottish strippers we met in Thailand. Never been to NY so i'm pretty excited about that. Then I arrive in Berlin for the weekend of the final of the world cup and will meet up with Luke, Blake and Tris (no tickets obviously).
The last month i've toned down my travelling coz of exams. Guess I had to study some time. I did pretty average
Cops
We spent about an hour and a half here by the side of the road in a coned off area while everyone else drove by and stared at us. coz i missed so much class over the semester. Going to a few parties lately and hanging out with my friends has kept me busy when i wasn't studying.
Had to sell my Mustang yesterday. I was one of the saddest days ever... I literally had to wipe away a few tears as I was driving away from the lot. Maybe i'll come back and get another some time down the track.
I'm sure those who heard about my Mexico misadventure are keen for an explanation so here's what happened. We drove to Tijuana for a night out drinking with five of us (all 18 and 19 year olds) in one car. After drinking and enjoying ourselves solidly til about 2, we headed back to the car. We barely made it through customs because one girl was borderline unconscious but somehow woke up enough to answer the immigration questions and show ID. After she spewed by the car for an hour, we started to drive back home. Unfortunately there was a booze bus ("sobriety checkpoint") waiting for us. This was a problem coz someone under 21 can't be intoxicated regardless of where they drink and the girl was passed out
The Impound Lot
This is where I was while Australia played Brazil in the back seat. The driver had been drinking some but stopped early coz she knew she was designated driver. But when she saw the checkpoint, couldn't find her ID so panicked and asked me to swap into the drivers seat (fat chance coz i was pissed). So another girl in the back swapped with her (who had been drinking all night), right in front of the cops. They saw and swarmed on us. So what should have happened was a DUI for the driver, a DUI for the girl the jumped into the drivers seat and the drunk tank for the passed out girl- all of which meant getting hauled off to jail. The driver did blow over at 0.03 but wasn't taken to jail, unlike the others DUIs we saw. The swapped driver blew zero which was miraculous coz i'd watched her down a bunch of tequilla shots that night. The passed out girl got off with a warning. So, we got off VERY lightly somehow. Of course the car was impounded and we were stranded by the border for 2-3 hours before we got a lift. Then in the morning i missed the Brazil-Australia game coz i
got roped into driving the girls to the impound lot to get their car. I thought this was all pretty funny because i'd done nothing wrong and they got pissed off at me for not taking it seriously and taking photos along the way. Terrible morning but definately an interesting experience.
A few days ago I flew up to Oregon to see my aunt. Wasn't too exciting but always good to catch up with family. Its funny coz she's got all these old cars lying around her big backyard. There used to be 27 apparently but shes down to about 8. I was cut she sold her Maserati recently coz i was looking forward to driving it.
Well, hope you've enjoyed reading or at least looking at the pictures of what i've been doing. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone when i get home in december. I'll do my best to stay in contact while i'm travelling apologies if i don't. All the best for the rest of 2006.
