Geo: 45.7836, -108.505The weather held beautiful for our visit with the grand kids and was absolutely perfect for our walk along Rock Creek with John and Kari, but with snow forecasted for that night we headed back to Billings thinking we'd be safe. Wrong. We woke to a couple inches of the nasty stuff and it trailed us doggedly all the way through Wyoming till we got to Denver, where we finally found the sun again. ... read more

Today we traveled 222 miles to Billings, MT. We went from the flat lands to some hills and green fields. At one point we came over a hill and there were hundreds of wind generators. I took some pictures of three of them in a row. Close up they are pretty darn huge. This area is mainly ranching and farming so the scenery was interesting.... read more

We started off today with overcast skies, rain and colder temperatures. This was not a good sign since we were planning to do a little off roading later in the morning. We headed east on I-90 towards Butte and took Hwy 1 to Phillipsburg. Phillipsburg is a small mining town from the 1800’s. It is very quaint. The buildings are old and the people are very friendly. Unfortunately, there are no signs off of the highway directing you to the ghost town we were in search off. I knew from the Montana State Parks, that the road was rough, winding and not maintained, but nowhere did it give directions. I called the parks department and asked how to get up there. Guess what???? They didn’t know! Yes, that is correct, the people who run the park ... read more

Before leaving Colorado Springs the Aqua Hot system went out, it runs the hot water in the RV. It was a great opportunity to reminisce being at my grandma and grandpa Grossman's house in Chokio, MN back in the 60's. They didn't have any hot water in the house, in fact they used the old pump at the kitchen sink and heated the water on the stove. So that's what I did to wash the dishes. We also went over to the camp showers and bought a 4 minute shower for $1.00. It started out as cold as in the RV but soon warmed up. I've never had to consider, "how long of a shower do I take?" July 3 we stayed for just an overnight at a KOA in Casper, WY. On our way we ... read more

We spent a couple nights in Montana. Since we're just going to Yellowstone via North Dakota and Montana, the bulk of our time back in MT will be spent up in Glacier. Pretty much what we drove through was just small industrial towns with tons and tons of trucks and bearded fellas. Nothing much to report other than we went to a casino on our way out of town. Some of us kicked that casino's ass. They only had video poker and slots and since they didn't serve mimosas, we had to drink beer before noon. Whoopsies.... read more

Episode 4: Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. (10.9.12) America has, in the words of Bill Bryson, a giddying abundance of absolutely everything. We found their Safeway Supermarkets to be great one-stop shops, selling everything, from all manner of food (including “spray-on” cheese in a can), fishin’ and huntin’ needs, a pharmacy for all your drugs, always a toilet, and an extensive alcohol selection (beer and spirits regularly at half the price that we pay in Australia). However, overall we both agreed that much of the food here varies from unremarkable to downright ghastly (and often in huge helpings of ghastliness). I was well aware of this, but it was something of a shock to Ross. On a couple of occasions we were caught out and had no choice but to assault our throats with tasteless ... read more

We all slept great last night and started the day off with bacon and eggs cooked outside. What is it about food cooked outdoors that just tastes so good? a quick drive through the Badlands with opportunity to stop a few times and view some wildlife we are not used to. The Prong Horn Antelope are beutiful but this time of year they are shedding thier winter coat so most of them looked a little shabby. Lots of praried dogs and a couple of wolves spotted in the fields. We drove to Mt. Rushmore since Joe had never been there so we could snap a few pics. My favorite part of this area has always been Hill City. Just love that little town. The drive after that was somewhat boring until we got into the higher ... read more

We drove west from Deadwood to Billings, Montana which is about a 300 mile drive one way. Billings is a city of about 110,000 and there really isn't much to see there. Our main reason for driving over there was to see the Little Bighorn Battlefield which is located about 60 miles east of the city. Anyway, we decided to see what Billings looked like since we were so close. We went to the local zoo which isn't much to brag about. It contained a grizzly bear and a tiger along with some other smaller animals. It does contain a wolverine and that is the first time that I've ever seen one of the ferocious little animals. There were a number of ducks waddling around and we saw a few squirrels running throughout the zoo. There ... read more

We will be leaving Billings, Montana soon. We had nice restful night. Hopefully, no motion sickness for me today. I have figured out how to post some photos.
