Billings - Ghost Cave Ghost Cave This was taken looking from one cave to the next. I was standing near the cave with most of the pictures and looking towards the Ghost Cave. Costs List of costs to get in. I took a picture of the sign in order to make sure I got it right. Picnic area There is a picnic area with a tepee in the center that kids can go in. Ghost Cave Here is another shot of the Ghost Cave. They have excavated quite a bit from this cave in the order of artifacts. They will be opening a new interpretive center in mid July 2009. As my son and I were leaving the Ghost Cave I turned around to see him starting to step over a snake. I did not have ... read more

DAY ONE Today was day one for a group of Evangel Assembly of God motorcycle riders from Bismarck, ND and what a day it was. However, before I go into detail let me tell you about the group. Some may have called this the "Wild Hogs" adventure of some older than average motorcycel riders trying to take back their youth! Well yeah because one does not get younger and needs to ride whenever you can! Especially if you live in North Dakota and the riding season is short. Coming along on the first Annual EAG ride were: Roger and Edie Will, Bruce and Sharon Walth, Jim and Peggy Harms, Jon Patch and his daughter Taylor, Forrest Ecklund, Jeff Roper and Rob Keller (me). Now the average age may be in the 50s however, Taylor Patch (an ... read more

William Clark in 1806 came down the Yellowstone River on his way back to St. Louis. Lewis, his partner had decided to follow the Missouri back and they met at the mouth of the Yellowstone. On his journey down the Yellowstone he stopped to carve his name in a pillar, now called Pompey's Pillar. For about a century & 1/2 people carved their names into this pillar until the government took it over. There were signs all over saying that if you moved off the ramps an alarm would sound. I have trouble believe it through, as there were animals all over and if they had an alarm system it would be going off all the time. When I was a girl in the 70's, I remember walking around the pillar and seeing all of the ... read more

We had our show in Billings today. Uncle Ron came, and that was fun. The crew certainly wasn’t my favorite to work with, but it was the most evenly-focused show thus far. Throughout the day, our goal was to pee straight water, all the way clear. We decided that we get a point if we get a “10” on the color scale, but never fully decided if it was on the honor system or if we needed to have it checked for legitimacy. Lots of funny things happened tonight, including my very big curly hair. But, honestly, I’m very tired. Sarah is having a slumber party in my room with Jenn, so we may not sleep, but we’re driving tomorrow and hopefully will have time to write. And Sarah’s new nickname is Merff. Don’t ask. Talk ... read more

44 Fun Facts from Monday! 1. I set my alarm earlier than necessary, which led to both Sarah and I being awake and not moving. 2. This led to a rock-paper-scissors game to see who had to get up and take the first shower. Sarah did it and had rock. I laid there a bit to figure out what would cause me to not have to get up, so I said I had scissors. Sarah showered first. 3. But not before piling me pretty high with all of her pillows. 4. It was our last meal in Spokane, and with Mike, then lots of packing. 5. Sarah and I were SUPER funny this morning! 6. Starting at 7:03 A.M. 7. We went to LC to drop of Mike and saw a few of the kids who ... read more

Maybe it's not the destination that matters. Maybe it's the journey. Mapquest said that this would take 7 hours. But we found lots of things to see and side trips to take, so it took 12 hours. Driving through Fortuna, SD, we came across an abandoned military radar tracking station. Steve remembers going there in about 1963, while he was in the air force. It was part of the high line, which is/was the most northern radar tracking in the US. Wheat fields in Saskatchewan, changed into scrub and ranch land in South Dakota, which turned into corn fields in Montana as far as we could see. And hot! 95 degrees F! We saw a rock formation that looked like tables growing out the the side of the hill. And hay bales stacked up to look ... read more

So i talked about Las Vegas in my last blog...now its time to tell u the story of the tour of the Grand Canyon. It started at like 6am. The guide was called Chris and he picked us up from our hotel along with another family and a Chinese student. The family were quite a young family...well the kids anyways. They were from London and spoke in a real typical posh London accent which amused me and they were so polite. Bob and Helen were the parents and the kids were Jordan, Luke and Imogen. Their ages ranged from 6-12 and they were really cute and so nice to each other...i don't think i heard them bicker once...not like me and my sisters were fought a bit and we're a lot older than them! The Chinese ... read more

Yesterday we traveled the Cooke City Highway. Driving south from Billings and through Red Lodge we made a 54 mile loop through the Bear Tooth Mountains. We went through Bear Tooth Pass at 10, 497 ft. elevation and then down into a beautiful mountain valley and then through Dead Indian Pass at 8048 ft elevation. The drive up to the first pass was a little scary - approximately the last 10 miles continuous switchbacks at 20 mph on a narrow road with no shoulder and no guard rails. Fantastic views if you can stand to look out the window and down into the valley. We then traversed a high plateau where we saw mountain goats, alpine lakes and summer snowpack. The second pass was much easier. The pictures tell it better than words. Although they don't ... read more

The last two weeks have been busy. On June 28 David met our daughter Sarah in Billings for a week at a dinosaur dig north of Billings. They had a great time with lots of hard work, but they both found a bone. This is Sarah’s second time at a dig in Montana and David’s first (but probably not his last). While they were digging in the dirt I stayed in Great Falls to visit with high school friends and family. I also did a lot of knitting including making a pair of felted clog slippers. This last week has been technologically challenging. We had one day with no cell phone or internet service in northern Montana for 12 hours due to a break (?) in the line. The rest of the week we have been ... read more
