Things were going well. Then they got hard. Now they're okay, and looking up. Unless they're not. We left our campground in Medora and drove south into the badlands. It was two hours before our realtor appointment, but we knew it would be difficult to find the place, and wanted to see the area. We drove into the badlands. They were beautiful. We drove over cattle guards and amongst the cattle. We drove past oil derricks. We drove on paved roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, and what turned out to be a private drive. We never did find the house, but realized that there was no way we'd be interested in it. It was just too far out from too small of a town. So we high-tailed it back into town, to get enough cell service ... read more

Greetings again from Billings Montana and Day 3 of InZane 2017! Over 100 pictures today of Bikes, Bike rodeo, Pie Auction and Blow out party. Also, video of the slalom race. Mrs. Alien and I started the day with a cup of coffee and the Valkyrie Rodeo. For those that don't know, a bike rodeo consists of several contests of motorcycle control. Events included a slow race in which the rider reaching the finish line last without putting a foot down is the winner and a slalom course where motorcycles navigate a slalom course of traffic cones which are moved closer together after each round of competition. Below is a video of the entire slalom competition. https://youtu.be/vnRZKEdkKFw Later, we boarded the Mothership and rode to breakfast at the Muzzle Loader Café. Meh. Then it was off ... read more

Greetings from Day 2 of InZane 2017 in Billings, MT! We started the day early with a free breakfast provided by the VRCC, then a nice walk around the hotel taking pictures of some of the bikes that I missed last night. Later in the day, we decided to go for a ride to nowhere in particular. We headed out of town going east on I-90. A little while down the road I saw a sign for Pictographs State Park. I made a snap decision and we took the exit. Turning up a side road following the signs, we had a nice 20 minute ride on a winding one lane road through picturesque Montana countryside. After a bit, we came to Pictographs State Park. The Pictograph, Middle and Ghost caves were home to generations of prehistoric ... read more

Greetings from day 1 of InZane 17! As promised, you will find a great deal of pictures on tonight's post. I apologize for some of them, as I was playing with different lenses and flashes to get the pictures the way I want them. I think I have the camera dialed in now, so picture quality should improve. By the way, if you are a member of the VRCC and see a picture of your bike that you'd like, shoot me a PM on the board and I'll email you the full Hi-Rest RAW file. This morning both Mrs. Alien, who arrived last night at midnight and myself were tired and the pinched nerve in my hip was particularly painful. We did jump on the bike and ride to Cracker Barrel for a nice breakfast, then ... read more
This little boat shaped trailer was cool!
This poor guy trailered his bike all the way here only to discover that he left the key at home. We have all been trying our keys in the hopes that one of them will work so that the guy can ride. No luck so far.

Greetings from Billings, Montana! I'm finally here at InZane 2017! More on that below. Bozeman was a bit of a pain. I got the only room available last night but it was a 4th floor walk up. The problem with that is that I carry a lot of stuff on the Mothership and I've been suffering from a pinched nerve in my left hip for several months as well as a torn ligament in my right knee. Needless to say, I was not amused that there was no elevator. This morning, I was resolved that I would not be carrying all of my stuff downstairs. I went through everything and sorted out the breakable stuff (cameras, etc.). the rest (clothes, tools etc.) I began chucking out my 4th floor window onto the lawn below. Well...THAT garnered ... read more

Geo: 45.7836, -108.505Sitting in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan we had a choice to make. We could turn left and head up to my old stomping grounds when I was an underground miner earning money for University- Flin Flon, Manitoba. Past detours that I've made into my somewhat foggy past have proven entirely unsuccessful- not only have some of my former hometowns changed dramatically but my somewhat faulty memory has left us wandering aimlessly looking for something I might recognize. Our other choice was to turn right and head back into the U.S. via Montana and, with a short backtrack, set up a visit to the legendary Yellowstone Park. On the way we could even stop at the site of Custer's Last Stand. Checking out the battle ground of one of the more notorious battles in U.S. history ... read more

In the beginning of 2015 my family and I had all planned on heading out to Montana to visit Derik's family. In the process we were going to fish the days away, explore Yellowstone and hike up a mountain so large and deadly my life flashes before my eyes just thinking about it :P But I got a full time job and with full time jobs there comes the whole requesting for time off and getting approval and when you are technically still on probation you probably shouldn't be asking for a week off so the July hike of doom was cancelled. But we were not to be dissuaded from an adventure to the mysteries lands of Montana. I had been there once before with Derik but the weather was so bitterly cold I'm pretty sure ... read more

Day 12 Got a good nights sleep and hit the road by 9:30, gassed up (free breakfast), then stopped to fill the tank. We entered the U.S. About an hour later, and always nice to be back! No more converting kilometers to miles and Celsius to Fahrenheit! AND, millimeters to inches! Who measures rainfall in such small increments? Well, I reckon everybody beside the U.S. eh? Anyway, I don't like to have to think too much on vacation! Ok, enough of that. More beautiful scenery along the way, saw some deer and a few buffalo and a lucky squirrel we just missed, and then on to St Mary's where we stopped for a break. Then we headed away from Glacier National Park towards Lewiston, Montana, and then on to our home for the evening in Billings. ... read more
