I love to travel 😊 so far I've been around various parts of Europe and America.
The blogs which you'll find on this site are from the longer trips I've taken which involve some form of Christian outreach.
The first trip is from my time at Camp Swoneky which is a Salvation Army Camp in Ohio where I was a member of staff which for the first half of my stay taught kids about horses and for the second half taught kids about smaller animals. The kids who attended were high risk (from a difficult family background such as poverty and abuse) ages between 6-12.
The second trip is to Perth, Australia where I will be doing a DTS (Discipleship Training School) with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) which is basically a course which teaches you about God and encourages you to apply what you learn through outreach both locally to the base to on outreach trips to different countries. It is all about knowing God and making Him known.

If you want to support me during my DTS outreach please visit:

Put 'Rachel Patterson' as the recipients name, select Discipleship Training School - Young Persons as the school and select outreach fees.

Hey guys :) Here is the final blog for the 6 month adventure I have just finished. For those of you who may not know what I've done, I have just been to Perth, Australia to do a DTS (Discipleship Training School) with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). January to the end of March I lived at the YWAM Perth base and was taught about God, each week covering a different topic including hearing God's voice, the nature and character of God and the Father heart of God. During this time I lived in community with people from a variety of different nations and backgrounds; eating together, working together, cleaning together, learning together, worshiping God together, supporting each other and loving life together. From April to the end of June I went on outreach which was ... read more

Hey guys! Sorry about the gap between the last blog and this one! It's been a while! I'm back in Australia now doing the final part of my outreach stage in a small town in Western Australia called Port Hedland. It's about 2 days drive north from Perth and is a mining town so those who do manual labour here are loaded...seriously loaded. I think they could earn in a month what some people earn in a year! If you ever want to earn money quickly getting a manual labour job in Port Hedland is the way to go! Quite a bit of travelling has been done since I last wrote a blog! After Flores we travelled to Lombok which is another Indonesian island. The way which we got to Lombok was pretty epic...2 days of ... read more

Hey guys! Sorry about the complete lack of blog for the last 2 weeks or so! It has really been a hectic few weeks here in Flores. Pretty much go, go, go, go, sleep, go, go, go, go, sleep, go, go, go, crash...you get the idea. Where to even begin in sharing what has been going on here?! Well I'll just quickly explain the title...this is what i hear every 5 minutes when i walk out of the hotel. Everyone in Flores wants to know where I'm going and wants to give me a lift in their pimped out, pretty dodgey looking taxi/mini-van thing (seriously weird looking taxis...they are a bit like that car you see driving around at night revving it's engine and pumping music really loud with it's neon underlight thing...it's a boy racer ... read more

Well we finally made it to Flores, 3 days after first planned. After not being able to get tickets for Wednesday as we hoped to, we then booked for Friday and when Friday came we went to the airport, checked in and found out an hour later that our flight had been cancelled so we got put up in a hotel and flew the next day. It was actually quite nice to be able to spend some time as a team praying for each other and just chilling...we even got to watch the royal wedding live! Fun fact: the next island we're going to (Lombok) is actually where Will and Kate will be having their honeymoon so may see them. The chances are they'll stick out like a sore thumb, not because they are royalty but ... read more

Apologies for the lack of blogs since outreach started! I can't even begin to think where I should start! We've done so much! So we're leaving Bali on Friday morning and will be heading to Flores (another Indonesian Island). We initially planned to come here for 9 days and have ended up staying for 3 weeks for a variety of reasons. It's been so nice and the base has gone above and beyond making our time really special. Everyone is seriously nice here and they are so hospitable...they have blown my mind with how hospitable they have been! Seriously nice people in a seriously nice location. The more I am here the more I love it and the more I love the people that are here. So since my last blog we've been involved in quite ... read more

I'm in Indonesia, i'm safe and i am soooooooooooooooooo hot right now. British bodies are not made for asian weather! It is currently hot and very humid. Tanner described it as feeling like he's stuck in someone's car exhaust and that is a pretty good summary! Inside is hot, outside is hot...there is literally no escape from the heat. But hey ho...i am in ASIA :D Quite a lot has been going on since we're got here. Today's ministry was going into an Indonesian prision and talking to some of the people doing time. It was my first time in a prison so it was interesting just on that basis and the difference between what i imagine an english prison to be like and this prison is pretty big. Overall though i find it difficult to ... read more

So I now know where I am going for outreach and if you didn't catch my facebook status update I can let you know that I am officially going to Indonesia. I will be leaving for Bali on Wednesday evening and will be visiting 3 Indonesian Islands: Bali, Lombok and Flores. I don't really know a great deal right now but i do know that at some point I will be taking a 2 day boat ride on what was described as a 'sturdy' boat so clearly very interesting and exciting times are ahead! Another thing which has been mentioned has been an epic mountain hike and travelling through the jungle! My outreach now looks like this: instead of a month in Cape Town and one month in Milan it will be 2 months in Indonesia ... read more

Hello again :) time for another glimpse into the world of Rachel and her adventures at YWAM Perth! Just a little note...this week we have been learning about Missions and I LOVED IT. It was awesome. I would love to post my notes on it and thoughts and all that but too much other stuff has happened and this blog is going to be too long as it is so apologies if you wanted to learn about missions. Just know that it was awesome and I really really loved it. So this week has been one rollercoaster of a week. I have been hyper and happy as and then crying a whole lot and venting anger through violence towards an apple. It's been random, it's been hectic, it's been fun, it's been crazy, it's been so ... read more

So yer as you can see by the title this weekend has been tres exciting! I went on a roadtrip to a friend's house who lives 3 hours south from Perth in a place called Busselton. We left after the mammoth application which we had on friday (which I'll discuss later) at around 11:30ish. We took 2 cars and there were 4 IPHC (Introduction to Primary Health Care) and 6 YPs (Young Persons DTS - what I'm doing right now) and it was just so EXCITING to leave the base for a bit. I was so kiddy. It was like being a little kid again. On the way down we had a little window situation...i possibly broke the window i was sitting next too. It was an electric window and when i tried to put it ... read more

Ok so I'm a bit late in writing this blog so the chance are you will get 2 blogs this week but don't worry...the next one probably won't be done till sunday! So a lot has happened since i last did a blog. The topic of last week was Authority and Submission and when I read that I was just like 'Ok I'm pretty okay with that topic but I can't wait for a few people on this course to get this revelation so there can be a bit more order and less complaining'...obviously NOT the best attitude to have going in and I was completely wrong...I learnt LOADS. Probably one of the weeks where I just learnt more and more and more. I've grown up with a strong emphasis on following the rules, being obedient, ... read more
