Cristiana here! Were going to Chicago! What fun! I'm going for my birthday party this year, with Regina! We had to wake up at 6:00, but that's just for us kids! All we have to do now is wait, and wait, and wait! I'm so exited! I hardly got any sleep. I just want to run to the plane and fly away. We stayed in this awesome lounge and this is where I'm writing this! Regina... read more

My parents were very generous is allowing me to come home after I decided to extend my service through the start of summer 09. In fact, I was ready for it. I had just said goodbye to my support system of volunteers in January; they had experienced the year with me through all the ups and downs. I still miss them. However, for every end, there is a new beginning. This would be my third consecutive January in Nicaragua, quite a remarkable thing for me. I was now the jefe (leader) of our group of volunteers and we were welcoming in 2 new bees. On top of all that chaos, I was volunteering my time as the event planner's personal assistant, doing all the things that are little but very important in planning the biggest meeting ... read more

Not Too Shabby I'm sitting here in the Northwest airlines lounge at the airport, and it's nice to know how the other half lives! Part of the deal is that you get to fly Business Class and one of the perks in the use of the airport lounge. (Note to PDI'ers: Not to worry, the client pays for the airfare -- your gasoline dollars at work.) There are comfortable chairs and tables, free liquor, chips and salsa, cheese and crackers, but I'm a sucker for the chocolate chip cookies. There appear to be around six employees doing stocking food and drinks, cleaning up, and people at terminals waiting to answer questions. It's like another world. In about an hour and a half, I head to Amsterdam, which is 8 hours and 19 minutes away (give or ... read more

Before the trip - Minnesota This is the first entry for my blog. And this is my first blog. So this is really the beginning... It's Friday night before my trip and I wonder if I really know what I'm doing. I feel as inexperienced in about what I'm going to do as I am in writing a blog. Yet, here I am writing a blog, so maybe I'll figure out what I'm supposed to do when I get to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia. All I can picture is Lawrence of Arabia. And oil. Lots and lots of sand and oil. It all started when I got stopped in the hall and asked, "Say, would you be interested in doing an assessment center in Saudi Arabia?" "Say what?????" It's kind of like someone asking you ... read more

We thought we should post something before we go. If you're interested in our trip (which, at 12 weeks seems more like an odyssey...) check back here. We're going to try to update when we can. Call it an extended honeymoon, call it "studying abroad", call it "snowbirding"--but we're going to South America for 3 months. We're starting in Lima, Peru and ending in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We feel really fortunate to have this opportunity and we're going to try to soak up the most of it. We don't mean for the blog to be for one way communication; please leave comments and/or email us! We promise to write you back. Josie & John... read more

We are back in Minneapolis after a huge Halloween weekend. We spent the weekend in the little town of West Union in northern Iowa with Nancy's aunts Dee and Kay, cousins Sandy & Tom, Marci & Mark and Jane & Steve, her second cousins Carey & Nick, Jennifer & Nick (a different one) and Lindsey and third cousins Matthew, Makayla and Max. Friday night we cooked chili, went trick or treating around the neighbourhood with Matthew and Makayla and carved jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins. Saturday we had something of a 'tailgate' party, though instead of going to a football game and eating in the carpark the relatives completely took over our hotel and ate in our rooms while watching several college football games at once and spouting non-stop statistics that we had no idea about at all. ... read more
