After almost a day in the air (or waiting around at LAX) we arrived in Minneapolis at 9.30 pm to the warmest of warm welcomes from Nancy's Aunt Dee and cousin Sandy. We were driven back to Sandy's house and fed up before we were sent to bed (which made up for North West Airlines not feeding us on the flight from LA). Today we slept in and spent the afternoon at the Mall of America, the biggest shopping centre in the world! Why didn't we bring bigger suitcases? We were expecting cold weather here in the mid west, but today was a beautiful sunny, mild day. Perhaps the snow will hold off until tomorrow...... read more

(If anyone is actually out there reading this, I apologize for so many postings in one day. We were quite busy on our trip, as you can see, and I had internet access issues along the way.) Well, Dorothy and I made it back to Minnesota today. Both a little road weary I think. It was time for us to get back as I have work and family to attend to, but, most importantly she has bridge club tomorrow! We both agreed today that it was an amazing trip and had such a wonderful time together. I asked Dorothy what her three favorite memories were. 1. She loved the hairpin drive along the coast of Northern California. 2. She thoroughly enjoyed the train trip and 3. San Francisco was amazing. And now, the memorial journey comes ... read more

One of Cody's good friend from La Junta, Liz Nicklos, now lives in Minneapolis, MN and since we had never been we thought this would be the perfect time to stop. Monday, September 08, we got up early, headed out to get some breakfast and up to the Mall of America to get our shopping on. First thing: the MOA (as we'll call it) is HUGE! They have everything there. We didn't know exactly where to start, so we just went up to the very top and circled our way on down and around. The first store we stopped at was Department 56, which Nickey was super excited about because they have all of the Dickens village places. After that we circled down around the center area of the mall, in which there was an entire ... read more

It's been almost nine months since my dad passed away and left behind the heavy curtain of Cancer that has surrounded him for many years. He is now in a peaceful place, somewhere he can be free of doctor's appointments, hospital visits and Cancer treatments. My dad, Curt Johnson, was a very active man while he was alive, even in his last three weeks of life while he was dying of Cancer at the VA hospital in St. Cloud. He enjoyed giving people tours when they came to visit him in hospice. We would wheel him from one end of the hospital to the other constantly, he couldn't sit still long. The week before he died, he was taking people on tours of the special tub, the size of a hot tub, that the nurses would ... read more

Well, here we are in MN exactly 19 days from our departure to Italy and more bad news! Guess I have to blog the good and the bad. Anyway, last Friday we find out from our realtor that the apartment we fell in love with is no longer available due to "unforseen necessities of the owner" i.e. The owner's daughter needs to live there. Our furniture is on a boat on the way to Italy and we don't have an address anymore! Our 2nd and 3rd options are still available but neither have the terrace that we so fell in love with. So we are faced with either choosing our 2nd option and having a place to live immediately or staying in a hotel and looking for a new choice! Stay tuned for the big decision ... read more

I can't believe I'm here, at this point. After months of planning and dreaming, it's really happening. And I'm so excited and nervous and stressed I think I'm going to explode into a million pieces while doing a happy dance. The Big and Exciting News of the Day: I turned in my 2 weeks notice at work!!!!! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Oh, how I dreamed of this moment for years.... ahhh. At first my boss didn't believe me. Then he did. Then he smiled and congratulated me. And asked about what I was going to be doing. Then we told my team lead and left him speechless--and he's never without something to say. I have shopped myself silly buying deodorant and tampons. And clothes and gear for traveling around next summer. ... read more

These last few days have been such a nice change after being on the open road for so many days. I guess it was only a week of traveling every single day, but after a while I felt like I didn't have any time to rest. I have decided from here on out I need to travel shorter distances per day. Sometimes it is easy to just jump on the bike and keep putting the miles down, when really I should be stopping more to nourish my body, see the sights, and meet the people. Basically I need to stop and enjoy life more! Being with my brother has been wonderful. I know I say this every time I creat an entry, but I miss having him around so much. I think he misses being around ... read more
