(Miracle Camp and Retreat Center) Happy Birthday, Heather! We finished our project yesterday, and three of the couples pulled out, which leaves us on this side of the camp and Willie and Sharon on the other…very weird after having others so close. Clara and Nic left last week to fulfill a family commitment. Everyone else is headed home for at least a month, and we’ll leave Saturday morning to head for Tennessee. I’ve had quite a reaction to bug bites ever since we arrived…seems that every little bite swells and itches, and then scabs over. The bugs aren’t even that bad, so we can’t figure out where the sores are coming from. Saturday my feet and legs had several new bites, and the itching was nearly unbearable, so Sunday morning we went to the ER in ... read more

(Miracle Camp and Retreat Center) What a beautiful week we’ve had, weather-wise and otherwise. The days are warm and sunny and the nights are cool…I love autumn. If you want to see this camp up-close and personal, and can't visit any time soon, please go to their website: miraclecamp.com They have excellent pictures of what I'm trying to describe. On our tour we went back to Shipshewana to go through the Menno-Hoff Museum. It tells the Amish Mennonite history, and also includes Hutterites. It was extremely interesting; the Amish broke off from the Mennonites, thinking they had gotten too liberal with the acceptance of electricity, cars, and dress customs. (I thought it was the other way around.) The Hutterites are basically the same story; they just decided living communally would give them more of a simple ... read more

Hi Everyone!!! WOW! So much happened during my last weeks in Honduras that I was so caught up in ENJOYING everything that I didn't make time to update the travel journal. And being back in the States has been a big transition ... so still trying to catch up with everything! But wanted to take a minute at least to say I am back in Michigan. I left Honduras August 19th and it was so much harder than I had thought it would be! What do you do when your heart is split between so many places???? My last month there was incredible though! An absolute blessing from God! My time in La Joya was full of love and laughter and healing and being surrounded by amazing people! I will post pictures and stories of my ... read more

(Miracle Camp & Retreat Center) It’s a great day~~the rain quit! When it finally stopped Sunday evening, it was soooo quiet in the motor home. I knew the rain was loud, but I didn’t know how loud until the end of the third straight day of it. We got almost nine inches of rain in three days….I admit there were times when I thought it wouldn’t quit! But Monday morning we stepped out of the bus into sunshine. Wow, what a difference that made to everyone’s disposition! Saturday afternoon one of the camp staff came over to tell us there was a tornado warning, and that we should come to the lodge. We’re surrounded by trees (Karen, I agree about being claustrophobic about not being able to see the horizon!) and can’t see much sky, ... read more

(Miracle Camp and Retreat Center) Have you noticed that I’m out of the habit of blogging? But I miss doing it, and so I’m working on getting back in sync! We’re at Miracle Camp, in Lawton, Michigan. Before I tell about the camp and the team, I want to talk about the countryside. We’re in southern Michigan, and this is grape country! Seriously. There are wineries, but many of the grapes are grown for the Welch's Company. We’d hoped to get a tour through there, but again, because of the economy, they’re no longer giving tours. The country is gorgeous~~very green, with large trees overhanging the roads, kind of forming tunnels! I’m not sure how well my pictures will show this, but you know I’m going to try! I hear it’s been very dry here, but ... read more
