Day Two of Spring Training. For those of you still following, here is day two of the Fantasy Camp blog. It started with an early morning run to Dutch Girl Donuts which is a place Michael told me about years ago and I try and visit it every time I am in the city. It is one of the many places young Detroiters are trying to keep going, and this place cranks out, right in front of you, the best cinnamon rolls ever to grace your mouth. I picked up some to bring back to Michael and David and if you are ever in the 8 Mile and Woodward neighborhood, stop in--here is a link to reviews of the place (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g42139-d937581-Reviews-Dutch_Girl_Donut_Co-Detroit_Michigan.html). After chowing down on that and a cup of coffee it was across snowy Motown ... read more

I forgot to post this entry. Pastor Corey works on homework while I walk the airport and ride the tram with Laura Carpenter. We board a two-level air bus with 366 people headed for Nagoya, Japan. There are three sections of seats seating ten people along the width of the plane. I am in the middle section with my son, Corey, and two other team members- the two Barbies (Barbie Washington and Barbara Bourn). We are smashed in like sardines. Luckily, we all have our own televisions, and we can watch movies, play games, or listen to music. Ear buds are given to each person. A steady supply of snacks, drinks, and even meals are provided. I chose beef with rice, salad, shrimp cocktail, and a brownie. While it sounds delightful, it is microwaved airline food, ... read more

Procrastonation is your worst enemy. My guilt is admitted with 0 justification. I knew weeks ago what I was getting myself into when I decided to create this documentary, yet I sit here, @ 5:07am (02/09/2013) writing a blog vs. finding out where I will get my luggage bag. I guess it's the fact that deep down inside, my arrogance let's me know that everything will be alright. Shit...despite the difficulties i've endured during my life, shit is still alright... "This too shall pass"...that's a verse from a bible that I have never read that means, When this shitty time is over, there is something new in store. That new opportunity is what you make of it. YOU WATCH WHAT I MAKE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY. -Rob... read more

West Coast or bust! Many months have led up to today and now that it is upon us, it has been somewhat overwhelming. The day seemed to pass by so quickly, I don't know if I was able to take a few minutes to truly say "adios" (I am horrible with "good-bye's, maybe because the word makes it feel so final and absolute. Therefore, I prefer "adios" or "see you later". A play on words? Perhaps, but most definitely more manageable). Our move to the K-W area has been a fantastic experience for the whole family. We met so many amazing people and built many lasting friendships. Making our departure that much more difficult for all of us. Thankfully, email and skype will allow us to easily stay in touch. So, don't forget about us!!!!! There ... read more

This morning I ran errands with Mom. We went out to lunch and had a nice meal, my last one on American soil for sometime. Bob and Linda stopped by before I headed out and it was good to visit with them one more time. I made it to Detroit Metro Airport and checked in using the Delta Sky Priority line. Currently I am sitting in the Delta Sky Club lounge and enjoying being pampered. I could get used to this business class travel! They have snacks, including fresh vegetables, and even wine by the glass, if one is so inclined. Personally, I am waiting to eat until the dinner that will be served on the flight. I took a picture of the lounge and one of the fountain here at the DTW terminal. Interestingly, the ... read more

Today I have been busy with Mom, running errands and doing chores around the house. There is really not much to say that is of interest from a travel perspective. Also, I have not taken any pictures for the last two or three days, so there are no photos to show either. I promise that that will change soon!... read more

Today I spent much of the morning doing chores around house, but I was ready to go at 11 AM when Bob picked me up. We met Jack at the golf course and the three of us had a good time eating lunch and and then playing golf. I don't get to see my brothers very frequently, so it was a real pleasure to spend an entire afternoon with them.... read more

Today has been spent with my mother, running errands and doing chores around the house. The only "tourist sight" that I saw is Wilson's Café. It is of interest because, according to my mother the historian, there has been a saloon in that building (or on that site) since the 1890s. Currently it is an inexpensive blue-collar bar and perhaps that is what it has always been. Mom got to talk briefly with the owner who agreed to be interviewed at a later date regarding what he knows about the history of the place. This evening my brothers and their wives will be converging on the family homestead and we will all go out for a nice dinner.... read more

Geo: 42.3316, -83.0478With the Mustangs on the car hauler and work on our rental house done, we were free to have some fun. Our friend Jim joined Kim and I and we went down town Detroit. A drive around Belle Isle then off to Grand Trunk Pub for a pint of some great Michigan craft beer. When we left Grand Trunk Pub we headed over to the Guardian Building (http://guardianbuilding.com/home.asp) This is the iconic art deco sky scraper of Detroit. It is just as amazing today as it was the day it was built. We then headed over to Honest John's for some dinner and off to see the Tigers play. They did not win but it was still great to be there and see them play.... read more
