Other friends S&S and their kids had already arrived from Ireland and the next day 3 more arrived PJ & K&B. The wedding was held at the hotel 2 days later so it was great to be based at the centre of it all. So we did a boat tour, went to the science museum, went to Harvard sq of course and spent a rainy afternoon in MIT bookshop (nerds that we are) went to Boston Common and saw Roosevelt's memorial (also Paul Reveres and Mother ... read more

Wednesday 2nd Jan - Well happy new year and welcome to blog two of 2008. Hope you all had a good one. I stayed in for the first time in probably 12 or so years, but it was enjoyable all the same. As U2 say, nothing changes on New Year’s Day. Well except the date and the year, but we’ll forgive them that small error. Today I got a lift with laura to her work in Sheila’s car, whose TomTom has John Cleese’ voice - scary! - as I needed to return some thermal bottoms and an adidas (oops, it was a Laura xmas prezzie!) Top at Marshall’s which believe it or not is more of a bargain than TK Maxx. Have to go back in there sometime - king of the bargain hunters that I ... read more

Robyn and I toured around Copley Square where there was a farmers market going on. We bought a genuine American apple pie to take to dinner tonight. Then we walked down Newbury Street and window-shopped for a while. I persuaded Robyn to go with me to see the spot where the Boston Tea Party took place. We went down to the river but had a hard time finding it. Finally, after much searching online on my phone I realized that the museum that commemorated the event had burned up and was still under construction for another year. We saw where the burned up building was, so I guess that’s where all the tea took a swim too. However, it was just our luck that a art project was going on right there, so our trip hadn’t ... read more

So almost one year after we finished this blog, we're picking it back up again. I tried to change the name from "Lisa goes to Asia" to Lisa goes somewhere else...but I am not so sure it will work. But good news is, I am going to Asia in a few weeks anyway...so we'll keep it as is. Evan and I are moving to London on Saturday and we're planning more exciting trips...these blogs are a great way to record our travels...so I hope it stays interesting. We are moving to Sloane Square in London, just about a mile's walk to the office. We'll post some pics of our place when we get there...but for now, wish us luck packing the shoes again! ... read more

Hi - I woke up this morning very excited - my bags are all packed, and there's not much left to attend to. Since I'm going to be exhausted when I arrive in Rome, I figure I may as well send the first leg of my trip. But since I won't be able to fill you in on the specifics of the first leg, I'll just have to make them up: Logan was a mess - one of those elder-cart drivers plowed into one of the de-icing trucks on the runway (don't ask me what it was doing there), and my flight was delayed by 4 hours. When I finally got in the air the two five-year-old twins behind me fought the entire way. Thankfully, one of the flight attendants slipped some vodka into their milk ... read more

I think we’ve set a new record of sorts in shifting residences. Consider this - In the last 3 yrs - I’ve lived in 11 different apartments !!!! So I guess I’m a veteran now. Living in Cambridge though is entirely different from any other place. Let me backup and tell you something about the history and geography of Cambridge. Cambridge is a town adjacent to the city of Boston. The city of Boston itself is very compact( only 232 sq. km) and the surrounding areas( treated as separate cities with mayors) comprise the Greater Boston area. The Charles river separates Boston from Cambridge. Cambridge was established as the town of “Newtowne” in 1630. ... read more

Now I get to be H squared, I guess. I officially graduated from Harvard, after a brief scare of an "I" on my transcript which I thought meant "incomplete" but turns out to be the roman numeral one... Mom, grandma, mom's friend Sue, and "my friend Tori" came out to join in the 3-part ritual: 1) Waving inflatable globes to represent the Kennedy School spirit of making the world a better place at the all-Harvard ceremony (30,000 attendees crammed in Hahvahd Yahd since 6am). 2) Getting the diploma. We managed to figure out which paper belonged to whom despite the director of our program totally butchering our names. 3) Donning a laurel crown and downing a blackberry martini at my favorite cocktail bar Cuchi Cuchi. ... read more
