I just got my shots. This included: Polio Hep A Tetanus Additionally I was given pills for: Typhoid Malaria Traveler's Digestive Complication I finally feel safe. One matter that was brought up for discussion during this procedure was that of the petty complaints of American Travelers. The counterparty in this discussion was the nurse who administered by vaccinations. She initiated the topic. I strengthened her thesis by way of an example. An aquaintance of mine, Zach Cravens, is a luitenant in the peace corps. His duty is to strengthen the local people. Yet his correspondences back home are dominated by complaints of the sparsity of American Food stands in the countryside of Morocco, specifically KFC. The nurse was really mad about this. ... read more

Diamond smugglers have a saying. It goes like: This Is Africa (TIA). I have observed the delay in the flourescent light bulb. Chalk it up. When presenting a package walnuts can be made into apples. ... read more

Ok, thank you to Cait for recommending this site. I think it will be a great way to keep our friends and families updated on our adventures! I leave on Tuesday and have begun the complicated task of fitting 20 pairs of shoes into an internal frame backpack. It just isn’t going to happen--I think 19 will have to do. My travels first take me to Hong Kong, where I'll spend some time in the office and overcoming my jetlag. I fly to Beijing on the 29th and will travel through China until August 11. We hit all of the major cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and the most important cultural sites. Then it is back to Hong Kong where I meet Evan on Aug 12. We'll spend a few days working/touring and then we ... read more

Wow. I can't believe I'm leaving for Europe in 2 days. This is merely the first gigantic domino to topple over to really give my summer a swift kick in the pants. 2 weeks in Europe and then back to the States for 5 days, then I'm off to Santiago for my wedding which is actually happening after 8 months of coordinating, planning and waiting. All thanks go to my lovely bride-to-be, Joyce, for really putting everything together with very few arguements, fights and kicking and screaming, who else gets to plan a wedding without crazy mother-in-laws, wacko fainces (that's me) and other familial madness that usually acompanies planning something like that? Ok, back to the adventure. So here's the itinerary for the next 2 and a half months, it's pretty ridiculous. So I leave Boston ... read more

It's not that I make messes everywhere I go; this is a commonly held myth. It's that when I'm around people can't help but catch my infectious messiness. What can I say? I influence people. I'm an influential person. **This is a test blog. Like the emergency broadcasting system thing but not like that in that if this were an emergency there would be no blog but a message from the emergency broadcasting system. But like the emergency broadcasting system's tests in that this isn't a REAL blog but a TEST blog that alludes to an emergency blog to be released in the event of an emergency. No...wait. Shit. Okay so if you are receiving this you have been subscribed by us to our blog. Because it is a form of attention. We like that. SO ... read more

Harvard Square Hotel Cambridge Last summer we went to Cambridge, Mass to visit an old college friend. He wanted us to come up and he even paid for the plane ticket for us to see him, but wouldn’t let us know what the trip was for. He reserved a great room at a Cambridge inn called Mary Prentiss Inn, which was also the name of the street it was on. It was a nice Inn. Kind of felt like a Bed and Breakfast with 20 rooms, but had all the modern amenities of a hotel. When we settled in he drove over to our Cambridge suite with another gentlemen. Turns out he is gay and wanted us to be in the wedding. Good thing I brought my suit.... read more

We depart at 6pm and I have been having trouble sleeping for two days. As I wrote in my other journal, India has always caused the dual emotions of fear and fascination, sometimes for the same reason. I have read about and will try to understand the things that bother most first-worlders when they visit, but will that understanding prevent me from having a knee-jerk reaction? A humorous example - I can understand the concept of a Holy Cow and be prepared to see cows, but when that cow rams me in the butt (as happened to a friend of mine), will I be so understanding? You see where I'm going with this. We've all heard about the begging children, the lepers, the touts, the grime, pollution, and dirt. We've also all heard about the palaces, ... read more
