It's amazing how easy it is to become acclimated to Maine's lifestyle, even though it's such a change from my usual lifestyle. I haven't at all wanted to log onto the net, I'm not especially bummed that my cell phone is constantly in roam, I don't mind the fact that the roads here are few and far between, and mostly, I don't mind that I've only seen one Starbucks in the entire state thus far. And yes, I know what you're saying: I've only been here a few days, and I couldn't live this way forever, and really I'm not addicted to Starbucks (and make it a point to express the fact that it's overkill and "over-convenience" how many there are in the world/in a mile radius where I come from, etc. etc., etc.). But there ... read more

You know, I think a lot of people look over Maine. I myself am guilty of it. It's just not a state I, and I assume a vast majority of travelers, tend to think of when planning a vacation or trip. That's a shame. I haven't been here 24 hours yet, and already I can see why Maine displays the phrase "Vacationland" on their license plates. I can't think of a state nickname that is truer. And perhaps my sentiments are such because the first actual excursion I've been on since entering the state yesterday boasts the "million dollar view." Who can beat that? Not many people. But what people can beat at Popham State Beach is the ocean. At low tide, it's possible to walk across what would be the ocean floor to Fox ... read more

There are three wants which never can be satisfied: that of the rich, who wants something more; that of the sick, who wants something different; and that of the traveler, who says, "Anywhere but here." Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. A good traveler has no well-defined plan and is not intent on arriving. He who travels much comes to know more than he who lives long. You need a change of soul rather than a change of climate. I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train. If an ass goes traveling he will not come home a horse. He who would travel happily must travel light. YEAH-WHATEVA! I remember being ... read more

Well I thought I would get thig back up and running with all of the traveling I am going to be doing for work. I still have to figure out a way to get some photos up on here, well since I don't have a camera that might be a little problem. Anyway, I was at a wedding yesterday. Susan's sister (Anne, who I went to college with) got married to a very nice guy and Susan invited me to the wedding. It was fun, I have to admit I was a little stressed out with seeing people from high school, but I think I did pretty good. No worries! At the moment I am on my way up to the northern section of Maine for a college fair, my bosses were right in suggesting I ... read more

I leave for my "Women In Europe" class in a few short days. This is my first time leaving the country! I wish that I was a little bit more excited, but I'm having a hard time, as I am not the one planning this trip and I feel like there is a lot of structure to it. MEANWHILE, I have been distracted by planning the backpacking trip that Anna, Ashlee, Alice, Jessie and I will be taking at the end of this summer. I have so much fun each day going through the steps of planning such a trip and doing the research for it. I just really really hope that all goes well and it actually happens. I keep saying that I am going to go NO MATTER WHAT, but I hope I ... read more

Today: Left Home. Drove 2 hours to Logan Airport to send off someone I don't care about all to much. Drove north to Maine. Other Home. Now: Fingers itching. And? Watching TV. "Confident travellers are different" Sings a commercial tag line. Confident traveller. What does make thee? It seems those two words resound some sort of resonance somewhere inside. Whether that is because I am a confident traveller or whether I aspire to be, I have yet to realize. Maybe because in my mind there is a connection between a confident traveller and a confident writer. The most paradisical way to spend vacation time would be with everything I own on my back...in search of whatever adventure I could get myself into. The challenge would then be to elloquently write about it. *** My cross country ... read more

1-8-07 Left Emily and Jason’s around 9:00 AM. It rained virtually the whole day. Saw a double rainbow in Maine. Bar Harbor is a long way up there. Stopped in Portland at Becky’s diner for lunch. Had a great Haddock sandwich. Maybe the best fish sandwich I have ever had. Enjoyed talking to the people working there. Made it to Bar Harbor around 6:30. The Hostel is great, especially because I was the only one there. It is off-season in this resort area. Nova is very nice. I kept wanting to call her Super Nova, but resisted the temptation as I thought it might offend her. I am hoping to get a lot done tomorrow so I better hit the hay. Got going about 8:30 and headed to Tapleys for breakfast just a few doors down ... read more
