After a great night's sleep and a good breakfast we were ready to hit the road heading north about 7:30 this morning. We're trying to escape the South today and head north to Indianapolis. We will make a stop along the way at our last cave for a while in Bedford, IN. So we cranked up Credence Clearwater Revival on the stereo and headed up KY-185. Ky-85 became KY-79 and they were both just wonderful roads. Two lane country roads between farms with just enough twists and turns, ups and downs to keep ut interesting. The scenery was beautiful, and we passed through all sorts of small towns along the way. There was mostly very little traffic, though we did follow a good old boy in a pickup truck who seemed to know the roads pretty ... read more

Preface: I thought it would be fun to blog about our adventures to California. We are currently taking a cross country road trip to California to see Tim’s sister Bri in Northern California. This trip will be 12 days there and back. We will be stopping at Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Seattle, Redwoods of California, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Colorado, and Lincoln Nebraska. It will involve packing up 3 teens and 1 preteen in close contact with their siblings for days. My kids generally do not spend a day without argument, so the hope is they are no blood shed on our trip. We left all sharp objects at home for this reason and only have plastic utensils. Let the adventures begin.... read more

Next stop, Horseshoe Lakes Thousand Trails CG, Clinton, Indiana. A one night stay just to cut down the mileage on an otherwise long run. It turned out to be a fun place, but I complained a lot about the location of my campsite. Very nice people checked us in, and led me to the propane filling station, and then sent me on to my campsite which Kim and Ginnie had scoped out already. We could not get adjacent sites, but near enough - 40, 42, 51. Water, sewer, electric, Ginnie had a tiny pull thru on a corner; she did not have to unhook the car for our one night stay making it a big plus in her book. Kim was around the corner, and I was halfway between, abutting the bathhouse. My bedroom window looked ... read more

Last week I had the need for a break from the visiting professor gig, so I headed southwest for a small adventure. I drove through Ohio, Kentucky and finally arrived in Clarksville, Indiana to visit the Falls of the Ohio. This area is known for its collection of naturally exposed fossils that can be seen on the large rock that reaches out to and is covered by the Ohio river during the spring. This is actually a federally protected NWR - check it out here - http://www.fallsoftheohio.org/ The fossils are typically of the coral variety and are fairly easy to find as you walk out on the exposed rock. The interpretive center is fantastic - particularly the part about how the Lewis& Clark expedition left from the area. After checking out the fossils Brutus and I ... read more

If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward - Quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the past +5 years with Central Nine Career Center, I have had the opportunity to crawl, walk, and finally run. This week, I submitted my resignation and will begin proceeding further in my career . I will be walking out totally on my faith"!!!. Returning to China to teach for 3 months, afterwards back to the USA for ______________________?I am unsure at this point, but have faith that my career aspirations will align perfectly with the desires of Christ. I look forward to sharing this awesome journey with you.... read more

En Illinois ... read more

Geo: 39.2072, -86.2511We really slept in today. Glenn woke up at 8:30am. I woke up at 7:30am and did some computer work. Since we all slept in, we didn't eat breakfast until 9:30am. Jan had fixed some english muffins, sausages and scrambled eggs. Then afterwards Jon read to us and we just had a "season" of sweet fellowship.I just had to "excuse" myself and take my morning nap. I laid down from 11:15-1:00pm. Good nap. I guess I was tired from everything over the past few weeks- watching g'kids, helping with G'mommy and G'daddy. I'm also fighting a sore throat too.Jon and Jan's daughter, Mary and 3 of her 4 kids came over for hotdogs and chips. Very well-behaved and respectful kids. We enjoyed getting to meet Mary. The Edwards know our children, but we had ... read more

Geo: 39.3736, -86.2606I woke up around 4:30am and waited until about 5:15 to wake Glenn up.Since we only had our "overnight bags" and nothing else inside the Binder's house, it was easy to get ready and leave. We of course left before dawn and headed towards Indiana where Jonathan and Jan Edwards live. We had said our goodbyes to the Binders the night before.Glenn needed to fill up with gas before we got much further down the road. Once we got on the interstate, we stopped for breakfast at Chick-fil-A in St. Joseph' Mo. We had never eaten breakfast at a Chick-a-Lay (as Emily would say).Instead of dipping down into Kansas City and driving to St. Louis and then over to Indiana, we chose to drive across the northern part of Missouri. It was on a ... read more
