I felt like a lot of Sunday was wasted shopping and navigating Honolulu, and today ended up being similar. Some people look forward to shopping while on vacation. Not me! The owners' literature at the house said that they also own Bad Ass Coffee Company, located in the Aloha Tower Marketplace downtown. The house was stocked with badass Bad Ass goodies, like Kona coffee and pineapple-coconut pancake mix. The 15% discount sounded good, and we liked the idea of throwing the owners some extra business. We made a special trip to the Tower, and had already established significant rapport with the gentleman at Bad Ass and made several selections, when I mentioned the beach house and he (rather affrontedly) informed us that the previous owners had sold the shop to him last year and he was ... read more

Hi Guys Well as promised here are a few pics from the end of our week in Hawaii. Maui is a much prettier island, in fact they call it the Garden Island. We took a trip along the Road to Hana which is a clifftop drive along the north-east coast of the island. Very pretty drive, but very slow - Americans just aren't used to small, windy roads! We stopped and took some photos at Keane pt which is about an hour along the drive - here the waves pounded into the rocks creating some fantastic sights and sounds, breaking over the volcanic lava rock. We then drove up through the clouds to the summit of the volcano, at about 10,000 ft. We actually cleared the top of the clouds... The next day we flew back ... read more

Aloha Arrived in Honolulu in the morning of the 5th of September after leaving Fiji at 11.59pm on the 5th September- Groundhog Day! I had just crossed the international dateline meaning I had the pleasure of having the 5th September all over again. I met three people from the Motherland (England) as soon as we landed in Honolulu, Hawaii: Gemma, alex and Leafy (real name Aleathea?!) We got booked into a hostel just by the famous Waikiki Beach. The first day involved finding our bearings and having a Mcdonalds (When in Rome-Thats one of mine!) On Day 2 we visited the Arizona Memorial aka Pearl Harbour. After watching some original footage of the Japanese attack we got a boat over to the memorial, which is stationed above the wreckage of the SS Arizona (the warship that ... read more

This was our fifth vacation to Oahu, Hi. We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki. It was our third stay at that hotel. We love it there. We ate at Duke's Canoe Club one morning for buffet breakfast, and we had rented a car for a couple of days to sight-see on our own.... read more

So as I said yesterday-today-whatever, I'm now in Hawaii and in Queenstown NZ at the same time. That date line makes things interesting. Anyway, Just thought I'd post for the novelty value. Hawaii is nice and warm and sunny and soon I'll head down to the beach and go for a swim. It was pretty crowded earlier so hopefully it thins out a bit as the afternoon progresses. Oh and I'm off to the Big Island on Wednesday to see some volcanoes and stuff. Can't wait! :D... read more

We woke up at the crack of dawn on Monday 3 July 2006 and Shane's parents kindly drove us to the airport. After the usual tears, photos and hugs Shane insisted we head to customs and leave home behind us... Christine was body searched at customs (haha just kidding), but was really fortunate when they didn't drag her off for a body cavity search after finding suspicious looking scissors in her hand luggage! After Chris was tested for 'explosives' (and Shane thinking who is this girl) we headed towards gate 51 to await our flight to Honolulu. Christine finally built up enough courage to visit the 'lavatory' only to walk in on a gruff American guy doing his business. After going red and having a quick peek, Chris eventually closed the door and the American felt ... read more

We left Hawaii a few days ago now, been a little lazy with updating this. We stayed in there for a week and both of us loved it. I have to say that it wasn't exactly what we expected, but it was still awesome. We arrived in Hawaii on Thursday the 22nd June, and it was easily the longest day of my life. From midnight New Zealand time to midnight Hawaii time took 45 hours! We crossed over the international dateline on the way, and the time difference meant that we arrived in Hawaii about 11 hours before we left New Zealand, crazy stuff. The first thing that we did in Hawaii was go to the beach, our hostel was definitely not the nicest we have been to... but it was only one block from Waikiki ... read more

Woke up too early - 7.30am!! Laid in bed thinking: 1 Realised that beer is actually fairly expensive in Vegas - a beer costing $6 = £3!!! Hostel is $3 a bottle - better, but still not cheap! 2 I also decided I definitely need a watch! With no mobile phone on me (no need if it doesn’t work in US). 3 Also thought about how I had travelled so far from Oxford and met a Guy called Steve from Botley, Oxford. He said he often drives through Yarnton on the A44 to see his parents. Made me think about all those hundreds of people that pass you everyday on your way to work, etc and how he could have driven past me on the A44 without either us having a thought about one day meeting ... read more

Monday 15th May - Friday 27th May Photos are being added slowly, thanks for your patience! Sooooooo, last time I wrote I was in Vegas! That seems like a long time ago! Las Vegas was great, just as a imagined and more so! I'd definately like to go back again, but maybe next time it will be with more money and some card playing skills! We started our time in vegas with a limo tour of the strip, stopping at the famous Las Vegas sign and the amazing light show on Freemont Street. After that we headed to a few casinos, and then Zoe, Siobhan and I went to a local club for some late night dancing - unfortunately is was a Sunday night so it was pretty dead in the club but we made the ... read more

Well Hawaii, What can I say? Looking around this magnificent land I am quite simply overwhelmed! On one side the well documented, booming, tourist trade - bubbly, extreme, ALL American tropical paradise and on the other, a georgeous polynesian culture fighting and fighting well to keep from completely assimilating into the mega power that is americanisation... I suppose it is probably appropriate to mention that this trip was specifcially an O'ahu experience, apologies for the genralisations to anybody who has delved somewhat deeper into the other islands and accompanying culture. Shamelessly enough though, I certainly soaked up my fair quota of tourist life while here, how couldn't you?! As luck would have it however, I did also have the absolute pleasure of being given a little snippet of inside island life due to my wonderful island ... read more
