Day eight may have been a bit aggressive in retrospect. We started early with breakfast on the run as we made our way to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. We arrived at a respectable time and had to wait just over an hour for our tour. It is very well organized really and free. We saw the movie and the memorial and were done just after noon. From there we made our way to the Dole plantation to see everything you can do with pineapple. My how this has grown, I don’t remember it being anything like the huge place it is now. We walked the gardens and shopped the store and then were off again. On the way to Waimea Falls we grabbed food on the run again and then arrived to trek up ... read more

Fine, 32c Oceanic Flight 815 broke into two pieces and crashed on the island. Well.. at least in the TV show ‘Lost’ it did. If you visit the ‘real’ Lost beach you’d be hard pressed believing it didn’t really happen!! Seriously.. It feels like you’re trapped by the mountains and the scenery is absolutely out of this world. The backdrop is very recognisable and still very well off the well worn North Shore tourist trail. Certainly a highlight of my tour around Oahu with Dad.. but more about ‘Lost’ in a sec Since last week I’ve been living the highlife in a Waikiki hotel and hanging out at the beach. Dad arrived last Sunday to spend 7 days here and we’ve done all the typical touristy type stuff. Literally cramming as much sight seeing as we ... read more

Hello Bloggers, Well we took the chance and went to stay in the north shore for a couple of nights. After our great time on the limo trip we thought it looked such a nice place to chill out for a couple of days. It rained. The whole time. Booooo! The hostel was ok, we stayed in little cabins, kind of like the staff quarters in Dirty Dancing, made off wood and with little terrace things at the front. We where sharing with 4 blokes, one of wich we had already met in Waikiki and gone out to a bar with when we first arrived, so that was odd. The others, one swedish, one Austrian and one Brazillian where all surf mad. They live and breathe surfing up there. So, as we dont surf and it ... read more

Good Morning Everbody! Well, just to clarify in my last entry i said the foriegn office had 'not' issued a warning, but i meant to say had 'now' issued a warning, so that should make sense now!! Yersterday we visited the North Shore of the island, and it is so lush you would not believe. No high rise hotels, no macdonalds, its really peaceful and beautiful. Really reallt glad we are going up there to stay for a couple of nights. We saw giant green sea turtles, a waterfall and pool that was used in 'lost', some masive waves (over 10foot andi went in and got sompletely wiped out and nearly drowned, while Corinne looked on and laughed!), Jack Johnsons house (and the man himsalf i think!), pro surfer Kelly Slaters house which looks like a ... read more

Hello Bloggers! Well, i am offically melting! Its so hot here, but its lovely! I cant get enough of sitting on the beach! The foreign office has not published an offical warning advising people not to go to fiji, so yesterday Corinne and I had a lovely day trip to the Airport to change our tickets. We are now flying direct to Sydney on the 14th. Im a bit gutted, cos i would have liked to see Fiji, but i guess thats our luck, and i can go another time! Today we are going on a tour of the north shore, thats where all the turtles, great whites, big waves and Jack Johnson live! Hes home at the mo, and we go past his house, so you never know, might see him! ha ha. We have ... read more

I spent on Hawai unforgettable vacation! Just amaze - miles of golden, black, red and even green-sand beaches: tropical rainforest and alpine meadows! Full relaxation! Each of the six main islands is separate, distinct, and infinitely complex. Here you'll find palmfringe blue lagoons, lush rainforests, hidden gardens, cascading waterfalls, wild rivers running through rugged canyons, and soaring volcanoes. I lived on the island Oahu. The name of the island mean "the place where people gathering together". I was conquered by the beaches! (There are 139 beaches (!) and one don't look like another). Somewhere the sand has the colour of sun and so soft like a powder.... And the water is very transparent and tenderly-blue (Kailua beach). Somewhere all bottom is covered by reefs where live corals, varicoloured fishes, octopuses, sea urchins (Waikiki beach) . This ... read more

Hello to you all!!! We are both here in Hawaii safe and well, just! ha ha. It was panic stations at Corinne's house yesterday morning as we got information that suggested that our flight was over booked, and we could not check in online. Got to Heathrow early to make sure that we got a seat, and we actually got nice ones with lots of leg room. Flight was fine, seemed to go very quickly, although there was extreme wind, not outside the plane, inside!!!! The pressure does something well offish to your guts! Flew over Las Vegas which was pretty cool, as it was dark and we could see all the flashing lights. Now we get to the scary bit, the transfer in LA. For some reason we worked out we had four hours between ... read more

A friend told me that Halloween in Waikiki is a must see, with people wearing the most funniest and ingenious costumes. As far as I was concern it was Halloween, Smalloween, different strokes for different folks; what may be fun and interesting for him, may not necessary be for me. So for many years I just ignored his suggestion. Then came 9/11. Mentioning the year, I guess is not really necessary, nor mentioning what happened on that date. Of course, for me, and I can imagine for most Americans, it was a time of great sadness and confusion. Yes, it was a time of mourning, but for how long, before we put it aside and move on? A sports editor for a local newspaper wrote an article in the paper, chastising many of the managers of ... read more

Our plane left at 10:00 p.m., but we had to be out of the beach house by noon. So, we had a bunch of time, and couldn't really spend it lounging at the beach, as we had nowhere to get all the sand off after noon. So, I poked around in all the little glossy books we picked up here and there for something for us to do. We could take a helicopter tour of the island (too expensive) or a 1-hour jungle tour in a big SUV (skeptical, what can you see in an hour?) or we could go sail on a catamaran. We opted for the catamaran and made a reservation for 1:00 p.m. It seemed like we had all the time in the world, but packing took longer than I thought it would, ... read more

We have had a wonderful time in Hawaii. At first thought Waikiki would be a bit over commercial but it is really great. When you walk down the main beach it is like a modern town on one side and a surf beach on the other. It is a really relaxed place with really friendly people and you really get a feeling of the island and you know you are in Hawaii. Aloha - which is the standard greeting, actually means with love. We have seen a lot of the sights on Oahu, Waikiki beach with Diamond Head in the background, Pearl Harbour and Hanauma Bay. We climbed Diamond Head which is an extinct volcano. There is an amazing view from the top every way you look (sorry no pics here but we have got a ... read more
