We started the day with a delicious breakfast at 808 Bistro , which is from the same owners as the previously mentioned 808 Deli. Four words: Banana Bread French Toast. Breakfast couldn't have been better, with the exception that Sharmon and Grant were headed back home to Seattle right afterwards. This left Jeremy and me with three and a half days to ourselves to explore the island. After saying goodbye to our friends, we decided to rent some better snorkeling equipment for a day, and head to a black sand beach. It was at the base of a lava cone, so the black sand was really just small pieces of the lava (another time I was happy to have water shoes!) I tested out the snorkeling first and although it was already getting windy and the ... read more

5th. visit to Hawii - 6th. coming up Spring 2012 Arrived in Maui early May and guess what? Whales! First time ever catching the whales - just a few left visible from Kannapoli Beach over by Lani - WOW!! Stayed at the Hyatt for nine nights because we got an incredible deal from COSTCO - something silly like 3000.00 for with breakfast and resort credit in upgraded room. I prefer a more upscale resort because I spend a lot of time on a beach chair - LOL but really this is important as most resorts don't have good beach chairs. The Hyatt was no exception - chairs just ok but great location and superior deal. We did not spend money on airfare as we cashed in US Air miles for two first class tickets. The planes ... read more

It is our last day in Hawaii! On one hand, I can’t believe that after all of the build up and anticipation to coming here that it’s almost over. But on the other, when I think of all of the things I’ve packed into the amount of time we had here, I just feel so satisfied with my time. It has been well spent. But still, I had one last day to adventure. It was to be an easy one, as only myself and my roomie, Emina, were going out. I already had a rental car and so we headed out early to see some of the spots I hadn’t gotten to yet. First we went to the Iao Valley. It’s an easy drive from where the ship docks. Unfortunately, the weather when we got there ... read more

One of the obvious recommendations I’d been given for my time in Hawaii was to go to a Luau. During our 2 weeks in Hawaii, we have 4 overnights. However I’m working during the evenings for 3 of the 4. Seeing as the Luaus happen in the evenings, tonight was the night for my Luau. Like with everything else I’m doing in Hawaii, I did a lot of reading about where was the best place to go. My pick for the Luau - The Old Lahaina Luau in the South Shore town of Lahaina. Earlier today, I’d driven a group of crew on the Road to Hana. Late this afternoon, we returned to the cruise pier to drop off people who had to get to work and pick up our little group who was Luau-bound. Then ... read more

Last night we ordered breakfast to be delivered to the room. We had to get up early for it, but breakfast was delivered at 6:30. Everything came as requested except they brought a pot of coffee instead of hot water for tea, but that was easily corrected. So we got to enjoy a nice quiet breakfast on our balcony. We had to use the tender to get from the ship to the shore here in Maui. They announced that we were 6 or 7 cable lengths from the dock, but all that tells us is that cables are long, because we were quite a ways from the dock. Our bus tour today took us around the western half of the island. We saw a lot of different kinds of terrain (extinct volcanic mountains, flat agricultural plains, ... read more

Aloha!

It's been quite a laid back experience here at Napili Bay. Much laying around on the beach. In between times we did manage to do a few things. Went out whale-watching, took a snorkeling trip and went to see Ozomatli at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. The whale watch was excellent, at this time of year it would be quite hard for it not to be, the waters are absolutely heaving with Humpbacks that have come here to attend to all the necessities of life........... except eat. The females come here to give birth to their calves and the males come, well, because the females are here. While the females are busy nursing their calves and trying to give them a decent start in life, competitive pods of males swarm around trying to convince a ... read more

Started off our last day in Kihei with a typically large American breakfast. At least the beach was long enough, and the late check-out long enough, to walk some of it off before setting off to Napili Bay. The move didn't get off to the best start when I locked the car keys in the trunk! Naturally the car itself was locked so no chance of popping it from inside. I've never been so pleased to have paid $4.99/day for the roadside assistance insurance. Otherwise I may have been facing an unpleasant bill. The very friendly guy (who apparently spends most of his days retrieving keys from trunks) arrived within 30 minutes so not too much time was lost. I'm going to try very hard not to do it again. B was very sweet about it, ... read more

I had the best honeymoon ever!! We went to Maui. Rented a private condo and jeep for 9 days. The condo complex we stayed at was to die for! It features it's own private beach that has it's own snorkeling cove. No paying to be boated out to Molokini to swim with the sea turtles. We swam with them for free everyday. Not to mention every kind of tropical fish that you would find in the local aquarium. RIGHT THERE!! 200 FEET AWAY FROM YOUR CONDO!! And that was the furthest building from the private beach. There were buildings that were literally 6 feet from the beach. Booking thew trip was a piece of cake, thank goodness, the last thing I needed while planning the wedding was a hassel planning the honeymoon. We used a website ... read more
