Maui is made up of two volcanos, a small one to the west up which the 'Iao Valley extends and a large one to the east, Hale'akala. The plain between them provides farm land for cattle and plantations. Through that plain is the highway between the two coasts, between Kahului and Lahaina. The actual narrows is about ten miles and then from there to Lahaina is another twenty miles or so. Our first stop is at the Hale Pa'i o Lahainaluna. That's Hawai'ian for "house of printing" of Lahaina school. I think "luna" means school. John Young impressed King Kamehameha one day by reading to him. Young said that he could share the thoughts of a man who was dead and had lived in Young's homeland, England. Kamehameha thought that was incredible and immediately saw the ... read more

My little sis decided to get married in June 06...and as she was marrying a yank they decided to head out of Adelaide and get married in Maui, sensational idea. After a week or two away on a "non-backpacking" holiday I'm usually ready to get home.........not this time, I was genuinely gutted at leaving this place. Could easily move there for good, if I win the lottery, bloody expensive place. ... read more

Spent the days leading up to Christmas in the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, Hawai'i. Rented a car and drove the road to Hampi...stopping along the way for some much-missed Mexican food, and to take a peek at a beautiful botanical garden.... read more

Well we just got back from Maui. Where we spent just one week touring and not too much relaxing. It started off with my mom's luggage not making the flight but we did get it a day later... We actually stayed in the town of Kannappali just north of Lahaina but the hotel name was Royal Lahaina so it was kinda confusing. Our first day we went shopping and relaxed around Whalers village. Not too much happened this day other than waking up and seeing the beach from our Ocean Front room. We had a free upgrade from partial ocean view to ocean view then we paid the $30/day to upgrade to ocean front. November 29th: I turned 25. we started the day off with renting a car... Not just any car but a hard top ... read more

It’s hard to believe that a destination so remote, so exotic and so magnificent could be part of the United States. But Hawaii is all of that, and so much more. When you picture a perfect paradise in your imagination, chances are it looks a lot like Hawaii. Its waters so blue, they seem other-worldly. Its beaches pristine, you feel as if you could be the first human who ever stepped foot onto the smooth glimmering sand. Its forests so lush, they shine like newly cut emerald. Its sunsets so brilliant, the sky seems ablaze with fire. Its volcanoes so imposing, you can only stand back and stare in awe at the wonders nature. People who have traveled to Hawaii save a piece of it in their hearts. Honeymooners cherish the golden days of unbridled romance. Families ... read more

Well, we took off on September 11, and that was scary enough as it was, but it was also while IKE was on the way to Houston and I was pretty nervous about not being at home (which is crazy, I know!). We had a good flight over, short flight to Denver, plane change, so got to stretch, then short flight to LA. Got there early in the day so we rented a car and drove around to see the sights. Went to Venice Beach and checked all the RV'rs there then drove on over to Malibu and have an early dinner at a restaurant on the beach. The next day we took the trip to Maui, again arrived early in the day. Did not do much but check in to the Condo resort & go ... read more

Aloha everyone! So we left Fiji and headed to another Pacific Island, Oahu. Oahu is an island of Hawaii and is home to Honolulu and the world famous Waikiki Beach. We stayed here for a couple of days before setting off to another of Hawaii's islands; Maui. Whilst here we just took it easy and took full advantage of having sky tv in our rooms! We were also only one block away from Waikiki beach and went down to the beach to practice our body boarding skills. We were going to Maui to meet Kate's mum and dad for 10 nights but to get there we had to overcome the 4 hour boat journey from hell. It must have been the roughest waters we had experienced whilst being away but the good thing was that the ... read more

What is better than celebrating my big birthday in Maui? When I close my eyes every night, I can still hear the sound of the ocean, I can still feel the sands between my toes, I can still smell the fragrance of tropical flowers. I remember the taste of Kalua pig & cabbages from "Aloha Mixed Plate", the seared beef on grilled papaya from "Mama's Fish House" and macadamia nuts pancakes from "Gazebo". I remember the excitement of biking down the Haleakala and the close encounter with green turtls. It was indeed a happy birthday. ... read more
