I'm in for just a few minutes, so i'll try to be brief. We went in service this morning - it was a sunny 74 degrees. Kathy didn't feel too well so i drove everyone... that was fun :) Everybody keeps thinking i'm a local, how bizarre? We mostly went on another sister's return visits - she had a study with someone at a law office that i joined her on. The study seemed very appreciative of her visit and gladly took a break. We talked with her for a very long time; she had a lot of thoughtful questions. Apparently, that's the common attitude around here; most everyone you talk to is very friendly and welcoming of the Witnesses. So that was a nice experience... so different from home. We came home just after 12 ... read more

Ok Jeff, i have pictures for ya. The tricky part is putting them on here - hope it works :) If anybody wants the rejects (the ones that didnt make it on the journal) just let me know. I have like 867879784543 pictures of trees and like, turtles. haha.. but it was sooo beautiful!! I hope to get good pictures of volcanoes and Mauna Kea (the mountain with snow, how crazy?) and gaaah everything is so gorgeous! So today was fun. We went to a local place to get an orchid lei - nobody was there but the sign said to leave the money in the box and take the lei. Never seen such a thing, lol. Then we toured the beaches for a few minutes on the way to Walmart and Costco - we saw ... read more

I finally arrived! The flight from Raleigh to Cincinnati went by surprisingly fast, and my gate to get on the flight to Honolulu was very closeby, so i had time to walk around before the long flight ahead. The plane seat 400 people but they said it was a little over half full. I got a window seat again, and nobody else was assigned on my row. When we had landed in Cincinnati it was snowing like crazy; they had to de-ice our plane after boarding. It was quite amusing; i took a picture, teehee. Anyway, the flight was wonderful - a little turbulance every now and then, but not bad. They played Walk the Line, Cinderella Man, and Wallace and Gromett (sp?).. I actually slept for a good part of the flight, which was good. ... read more

Ok, Ok! I have to admit, I was very lazy in the last time so I didn't do any new blogs. I hope you can forgive me for that. As a compensation I will put more pictures in it. Most of you people don't read my blogs anyway and just watch the pictures, or do you? :-) Anyway I have to keep the timeline the way it should be. Therefore you get this time over a month old pictures. First you will see my first trip to another island. And I have to tell you.... it was AWESOME!!! A nice young lady from Munich visited me, so I had a good reason to travel elsewhere. So we decided to go to Big Island. It's bigger than all the other islands together but not even one tenth ... read more

When we first booked our flights with Aloha Airlines, Hyning and I just wanted to 'get away' to the Big Island. With no research or any concrete plans, we booked the cheapest flights available, not realising that we had to wake up at 4am to catch a 6.10am flight to Kona and returned on thanksgiving night to Oahu. We had very little sleep the night before because: (1) Hyning and I could not stop talking at night; (2) I was jet-lagged and would not let her sleep; and (3) when we could finally sleep, Hyning had her alarm clock blaring at 2am local time - it was 4am Cali-time. We arrived at Kona Airport before sunrise. Once we collected our car and drove out of the airport, we realised we were indeed at a volcanic heartland. ... read more

More beaches We drove to north this time to see other beaches. We ate some good food at Mediterranean restaurant. The first beach we hit was Hapuna Beach. Its a very beautiful, full of really soft sandy like valvet. I absolutely loved it. Then we went to Spencer Beach. I bought Rahul a music instrument for his birthday, so we tried playing that on the beach. This was much more quieter and also had a camping place. If we knew, we probably would have camped there, right on the beach. On the way back, we also caught a really nice sunset. Last day - more snorkeling Today was Rahul's birthday and our last day on Hawaii. I could not believe the trip was getting over, it was such a perfect trip. We spent the morning packing ... read more

Getting there We started for airport in the afternoon for flight to Kona at 2:55p.m. Flight was on time and totally full. Most of the people got off at Maui our first stop and a more popular holiday destination. We reached Kona airport by 7:00pm. The airport was a big surprise. We were expecting it to be small, but this was, well... lets say very different. First we got off the plane by a ladder, the old fashioned way. The airport was a set of huts, yes, thatch roof huts, no air-conditioning, no sophisticated machinery, a very primitive nice airport. From the airport we headed off to get the car. Getting the car took looong time, waiting outside in warm air, looking at other people arriving. Then when it was our turn, they upgraded us to ... read more

31/05/05: Picture downhill skiing and then 1 hour later basking in the tropical Hawaiian sun. Many people don’t know this but Hawaii gives you the opportunity to do this. Coming from someone that hasn’t even seen snow before, let alone been skiing, I thought that it was best not to indulge in this escapade. Besides, I think snowfall in summer is minimal on the mountain summits. You can, however, experience natures power on the opposite temperature spectrum and stand next to a river of 1150 deg C molten lava. This can be done all year round but the unusual, although very obvious (if you think about it) characteristic of active volcanoes is that the landscape is always changing. New land is added/destroyed each day which makes it very difficult for tour guides to predict the daily ... read more
