I am all kinds of tired at the moment so i'll try to shorten this as much as possible... i woke up at 3:00 this morning and called Bryan to see if he was still coming cuz the scott's said he loves to sleep and they really didnt think he was gonna come... so anyway i called him and he answered immediately and said he's in the neighborhood and will be here in 10 seconds. He was so awake and hyper i was like whaaaat... lol but anyway I'll write more later. And i know i keep saying that, but for real i will... i'll just write enough to be able to go into detail later. So now i'll put up a load of pictures and describe them as well as i can. Dave took almost ... read more

I just wanted to see if i would get any comments if i didn't update. lol jk... we've been out a lot lately so i haven't been able to update. I'll put pictures up later, but i just wanted to touch bases and assure you all i'm still alive. :) I can't win - i can't tell you how many comments i've gotten putting down my latest pictures... but clearly, i was trying to get you all to appreciate the beauty of blurred art. And my buddy Ray Charles was helping me out... lol sorry i dont know what happened, but i'll try and get them back up and in focus. A couple days ago we went to the beach, named '69' after the lightpole where you turn. Unfortunately i didn't take any pictures, although Dave ... read more

I think i left with Friday, right? Saturday - just because i knew i was allowed to sleep in as late as possible, of course my eyes spring open at 7:30. Tell me i've gotta be awake by 9, and i'll sleep all day. I'm weird. We did a lot of cleaning and grocery shopping Saturday in preparation of Sunday's plans. The Scott's bookstudy was assigned to feed Sunday's visiting speaker for their hall, so we were going to cook for that; we were asked to bring a covered dish to the party in the afternoon, and since Dave was the outgoing speaker at another hall and a family had us for hospitality, Kathy wanted to make something to bring. Saturday evening, someone from their bookstudy called and said we dont have to bring anything, and ... read more

Here are the past couple of days: Yesterday we went to - ok bear with the spelling - Lapahoihoi (ok phonetically, lappa hoy hoy, that should help.) This is where a huge tidal wave wiped out a school full of children in 1946. The *most beautiful* place, i'm tellin ya... then again, how many *the most beautiful places* have i written about so far?? The day we were there the water was so wild, like on the verge of tsunami. No i'm kidding, there was no tsunami action goin on. But Kathy told me this is where everyone comes to swim, like little 2 yr olds swim here. I'm looking around and there's giant rocks in the water and 3498730 foot waves and there goes baby jim floating by. Well not floating by, that's a bit ... read more

I've been hounded for not updating the past couple days. Truth be told, there hasn't been enough exciting activity to merit blocking up your e-mail lately; we went to Macy's the other day... it's not nearly as big as the ones we're used to, but they had a decent sized one. Every store common to the Carolina's has somewhat of a Hawaiian flavor to it here... everything in Wal-mart has some type of floral print on it, or some sort of Hawaiian greeting.. no winter clothes, no boots.. I've heard things are outrageously expensive here, but so far the majority seems pretty comparable to back home. Of course, Macy's was having an awesome presidents' day sale. Yesterday evening was service meeting. A sister brought a huge box of apple bananas and baking bananas to give away. ... read more

I've got quite a bit of material tonight... but for real guys, it's not so exciting in writing. In my short time here so far, i've experienced things i couldn't even imagine - i didnt know i was missing out because i honestly didn't what i was missing. We drove about 15 minutes down the road to Mauna Lani (?) beach to see the sunset. I'll tell ya, i absolutely fell in love with this beach... the grass is so soft and green and scattered with palm trees... it opens up into sugar soft white sand enclosed in naturally placed stone walls and slowly disappears into the crystal clear, sparkling ocean. We walked across the shore (only ankles dad ;) and noticed a huge turtle bathing in the sun... i honestly thought he was dead, but ... read more

My first week in Hawaii has come to a close. I'm sure each week hereafter will fly by just as quickly as the first. The atmosphere here is so different from the Mainland; time is not especially priority here... people get things done at their own leisure and enjoy the scenery on the way. This kind of lifestyle would drive most Mainlanders crazy i suppose, but it's a pleasant temporary change. After yesterday's entry, i went up to take a nap, say around 3:30... Dave woke me up around 6:15 so we could catch the sunset... but no lie, i could have slept through the night. I must have been extremely exhausted, huh? The sunset was pretty intense, but i think it's still holding out. I've been promised a wonderful view from the Hilton... I forget ... read more

This has to be quick because it's been suuuuch a long day and i need to study for an early watchtower in the morning... but today was fabulous -- i probably said it a billion times; i was sooo excited to go whale watching today. So we pack some lunch and go down to Kona. Again, overcast. Not even a typical condition in Kona. But Kona heard Fran was coming ;) Anyhoo the clouds broke for a little while and we ended up having a very pleasant day. We boated out to Captain Cooke Memorial (i know nothing about this guy, but apparently he was extremely important ;) Buuuut we found a good stopping place where we could have lunch anddd we saw tons of fish, so we went snorkeling. It was sooo cool! It was ... read more

I'm putting more pictures up from yesterday... maybe just because i dont have any from today :) Meeting was nice. 118 people there today. I'll get a picture of the hall later if i get a chance. Today i think we're gonna take it easy... yesterday was enough activity for a week :) As far as i know, we're going to one of the active volcanos tomorrow afternoon... i hope to get some good pictures there. Ok i'll put a few pictures up and then i'm taking a nap. Ciao!... read more

Today was very eventful. Some long-time friends of the Scotts from Oahu and California came to the big island to visit. We all decided to go down to Waipi'o Valley, most known for its breathtaking waterfalls and black-sand beaches. I think some of the pictures turned out nicely... but still no justice for a live view. They was bright blue and the water, clear to the bottom. We saw another whale from a distance - i attempted to take a picture but if i put it up, you'd think i was lying... it's so tiny. The route to the bottom of the valley is very steep and curvy. Me, Kathy, and Naomi (from California) walked down part of the way and Dave took the Honda down - we hopped in later. The bottom of the valley ... read more
