OK, so it has been a while since I posted. I know it’s been long since even my father asked if I was still writing. Wish I could have posted more but circumstances have been unfortunate. I post 95% of the blogs based on RV trips we take. Summer has come (and gone) and I didn’t post. Why!? Simple…no trips. UGH. The last trip we took was to Ohio in May for my parents’ 70th anniversary. It was great and great to see family. However, on the way there, we had a driver pass us and hit a piece of tire in the road which flew under our RV and went “thunk”. We stopped in Berea, KY to spend the night and I checked underneath the engine. Seems oil of some sort was leaking. I checked ... read more

Once again, we got up early to drive to Atlanta. But first, we wanted to cruise through our old neighborhood, the Green's at Lee's Hill. We lived here from the fall of 1995 until we moved to Brazil in the summer of 1997. It was fun to see how little things have changed there. As we were driving around, we stopped to speak to a man walking his dog. He told us that some of our friends were still living there. As we drove in front of our unit, I spotted a guy just inside his garage. It was our friend and neighbor, Gene Barlow. We had to stop. It has been 19 years since we moved. We have not seen anyone from The Greens since. But there was Gene and his wife, Shirley. They are ... read more

Geo: 34.5331, -83.9842After a nice visit with Bill and Beverly and then praying for them as Bill left for work, Glenn and I left in the RAV 4 to head towards White Stone which is near Knoxville, TN.I had wanted to visit with Joanne (Eagle) and Oliver Sale. I had never heard back from Joanne from our first contact back in May, so as we drove along the winding roads, we called up Joanne and talked with her. She mentioned that she replied to my email - I never got it. I suspect that she "replied in the form of a text message", and since we didn't have texting, I never got it.But any how, we connected and she said "come on". Although, her husband Oliver would not be there. He golfs on Tuesday. We arrived at ... read more

Geo: 34.5936, -83.3583We slept in until 7;30am this morning. Benji fixed everyone some sweet rolls that Bill just had to heat up. Very good. Looks like 17 year old Benji has his father's cullinary skills. Way to go.We all sat around the living room and just sat and told old stories. It was great. It reminded me of sitting out on the country porch or even after a big meal during the Holidays.I had asked Beverly if we could invite Gary and Nancy Lengkeek to come over along with Joe and Barb Royer. The Lengkeeks were missionaries with South America Mission from 1978-1990 in Bolivia. He was our field director. I remember telling him that we did not name our son after him, but instead of our dear friend, Gary Beekman. The Lengkeeks have since worked ... read more

Geo: 34.5772, -83.3325Editor's NOTE: Normally Glenn proof-read's my blog and does some major editing, however I am not asking him to do this for me, since he needs a break. So bear with me if there are misspelled words and the grammar is incorrect. Thanks for reading. We are glad we waited out the storm, as Saturday morning greeted us with a BEAUTIFUL day to drive. Clear blue skies. We drove along I-85 towards Greenville, SC. We had an 11:30pm appointment to reconnect with Mark and Bethany Boerckel. Mark is the son of Scott and Carol Boerckel, our good friends from LaPaz, and now pastor in Illinois. Their family is the cutest thing. They have 2 girls, ages nearly 4 and 1.5 Susanna and Clara. Susanna is a spitting image of her grandmother, Carol. She has so ... read more

Geo: 33.9581, -83.3733After a nice breakfast that Benji fixed for us (cinnamon rolls), we left for Bill and Bev's Church. It was mission sunday, so we heard 5 different missionary couples speak about their work in Africa and Mexico. We left at 10:15 after the service and drove towards Athens. It took us an hour to get to the city, and we found a Starbucks so I could do some much needed computer work.I filled out my Travelpod/blog.Then we met up with Scott and Lilliana McAndrews at the On the Border. Glenn and I shared a fajita dinner for one. It was interesting to learn how Scott and Lilliana met - through Christian Mingle, an Internet dating site. She is from Guatemala. Her father works at TGNA radio station. So, she knows most of the CAM missionaries, ... read more

Geo: 33.7481, -84.3909Yesterday and today, we did a lot of research. Yesterday, we visited the Charles Switzer Public Library in Marietta and the Roswell Public Library to look for records on the cemeteries in the area. We didn't find much of interest so didn't visit any of them. While we were driving around, we passed by Strickland Road in Roswell so stopped for a photo. We had a great lunch at Lucky's Burgers and Brew right down the street, too.Today, we drove to Morrow on the south side of Atlanta to go to the Georgia Archives and next door to the Atlanta branch of the National Archives. We spent most of the day at the Georgia Archives finding everything Phil wanted to get there so we didn't need to go to the National Archives. We were ... read more

Geo: 33.7481, -84.3909We drove from Meridian to Atlanta today stopping in Birmingham at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to learn more about what was happening in the South while we were children. We also saw the 16th Street Baptist Church that was bombed in 1963 killing four girls attending Sunday School. The museum is beautifully crafted and does a great job of explaining all the parts of the civil rights struggles of the 20th century. Near the end of the self-guided tour, one of the docents pointed out a photo from March 2007 that she was particularly fond of with then Senator Barack Obama pushing Fred Shuttlesworth in his wheelchair across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma while Bill Clinton stops to talk to him. We arrived in Atlanta before rush hour started but the roads ... read more
