Here we go, starting out our second winter of retirement on the boat! After leaving the boat in St.Marys Georgia last April, we spent the summer home in Guelph, enjoying life in our home, and our first summer with our new Granddaughter Ella. I was very lucky and worked all summer for Centennial Optical. Sharon was equally busy organizing things at our home, helping our daughter Dawn and her husband Paul move to a new home. October 24st we left Guelph to return to the boat. After spending the weekend in Chalotte North Carolina with friends Jenny and Ron Huibers, we arrived at the boat Monday October 27th. Our friends Mary and Christian Verlaque live in St.Marys and let us stay at their home while we got the boat ready. We didn’t know what to expect ... read more

To start this entry, I will recap my day for you, to paint a picture of this wonderful dream world I am living in. (Take note: it is Sunday) Sunday February 17, 2008. At 10am, it was in the high 70’s outside, William, Brittany and I headed about 4 miles east to go to the beach. William and my intent were to boogie board with our new boards that we purchased yesterday, so we were hoping for some waves. The beach was empty when we arrived; except for a couple beach walkers we had the beach to ourselves. In the distance we saw the lifeguard stand which was flying a yellow and purple flag. Yellow means swim with caution and stay close to shore, and purple means that marine pests are present. It wasn’t double red, ... read more

We’ve been a little slow getting to this next blog, but we’ve certainly made some distance since the last one in Beaufort/Moorhead City. Our weather in Beaufort was cold rainy and windy, so unlike our last trip we didn’t really see much of Beaufort. We pretty much stayed on the boat, hopefully getting ready to go offshore. Finally on Saturday morning we lifted our anchor in the rain, and started down the intercoastal waterway, as the conditions to go offshore didn’t look good for the next week or so, and there was a tropical storm, building to a Hurricane (Hurricane Noel). Less than 40 miles down the Intercoastal waterway, we noticed several boats not moving, and blocking the channel in front. The waterway had silted in the usual channel and the coast guard had moved the ... read more

Our first ever Greyhound experience started in Miami and carried us to Fort Pierce. We sat outside the station in North Miami waiting in anticipation for the bus to turn up. It was 40 minutes late and the other passengers were growing impatient. When it turned up we gingerly lined up and entered the bus, managing to get a seat were we could sit together. We have been told some nightmare stories about the buses since arriving in the States, however it turned out to be a comfortable journey. The biggest difference was the sounds. In the UK people our quiet on the buses, this greyhound trip was rather noisy, with people shouting on mobile phones. I have never seen so many people trying to carry so much on a bus! Bags and bags full of ... read more
