I like Disney World. It has got to be one of the most fun and exciting places I've been to. My uncle says that everyone gets to be a kid at Disney, and that's why they have to keep it so fun to visit. Anyway we got to go to olando this month and let me tell you I could sleep forever after this trip. We got to stay at a really nice hotel called the Quality Suites Maingate which is in Kissimee (which sounds like what my Mom would say when she tucked me in when I was a kid). Their rooms were huge, about as big as uncle Joshs' apartment back home, and it was right near all the parks we were going to visit so it was really easy to ju... read more

I'm homeward bound! I awoke bright and early to pack up my things and load the car with all of my luggage and Disney bags. Before heading home, I stopped by Downtown Disney for some last-minute shopping and pin trading. There's a lot of construction going on around the World of Disney stores--looks like they are going to have a bunch of new shops soon. I poked around some of the new stores and into Pleasure Island a bit before having lunch at Rainforest Cafe (AGAIN) and saying my last goodbyes to All Things Disney. I must say it has been quite the adventure, but I'm ready to go home and snuggle with my family. I guess I've had enough of this place for a while. I wonder if we could come back next weekend? ... read more

I started to get a scratchy throat last night, and today I'm kind of dragging. Not to miss out on any of the things I had planned on cramming into this week, I downed a few aspirin and made my way to MGM Studios to knock out some of the out-of-the-way attractions that I have been missing. I by-passed our normal thrill rides for leisurely strolls through the walk-through attractions and entertaining shows. After all, I had already done Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror the weekend before with the fam, and this day was about ME! Early in the day, I received news from Hilary that Jeff's "Dexter" book series had been picked up by Showtime. Woohoo! I called everyone back in Cape Coral to let them know. Seems they were just as thrilled ... read more

Today was Magic Kingdom day--woohoo! I spent the day hopping around from one obscure attraction to another, taking pictures for strangers and talking to this person and that about All Things Disney. I helped people find attractions, gave them tips about planning their day to maximize their time at the Magic Kingdom, and explained over and over that I do not work for Disney (sob!) and gave them my story. Carousel of Progress had been updated since I last saw it several years ago, but it was pretty much the same old musty attraction that I have always loved. There were some new attractions and shows I had never seen, and the park was empty enough that I was able to do them all. I actually went to the Hall of Presidents and rode the Walt ... read more

I found my car at Epcot this morning--woohoo! I also took a look at Wilderness Lodge today, and it was was really nice. There were actually people in the pool there, even though the temperature was in the 50's. Freaks. I spent the rest of the day at Animal Kingdom where it was an Extra Magic Hours night until 8:00 PM, so I got to stay after the park closed at 5:00 for anyone who wasn't staying at a Disney resort. I didn't ride one ride the whole day! I talked to Trey and Mallory and they both agreed they would have hated it. So what did I do all day? Well, I posed as a Disney photographer (kind of--just a nice person) and took a TON of pictures of people so couples and families could ... read more

Today, I went on a 7 hour behind-the-scenes tour of Epcot, MGM Studios and Magic Kingdom called "Backstage Magic". To some, it might have been a snooze-fest. To me it was the coolest thing ever in the whole wide world! I got to see how some of the attractions work, the underground tunnels at Magic Kingdom, where all of the Christmas decorations are stored after they're taken down, where the costumes are designed and the rides are made--all sorts of goober-y Disney geek stuff that I live for! The only person I can think of who would have appreciated it as much as I did would be Brian Price. Disney Geeks of the world, unite! While I miss my sweet Mallory and Trey dearly, it's pretty cool to be here by myself so I can do ... read more

Trey, Mallory, Alynn and I went to Animal Kingdom and MGM Studios today. At Animal Kingdom, we got to see the newest member of the Disney cast--a one-month-old elephant! She was adorable, but a little shy of the vehicles on Kilamanjaro Safari. At MGM, we rode Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror (or course) and ate lunch at the Brown Durby. I think I could eat their Cobb salad every day of the week and not get sick of it. Mallory and Alynn got Disney costumes for their two American Girl dolls. After the parks closed, Marisol and Jessica went to Planet Hollywood with us for dinner, where they proceeded to wreck havok. Both are grounded and lost TV priviledges until their mothers (Mallory and Alynn) decide they have learned their lesson. ... read more

"Walk-in-and-Win" auditions were held at MGM studios for tapings of "Who Wants to be a Millioinaire". They randomly chose 325 people out of the 1,500 people who showed up at 6:00 AM to try and get on the show and I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Bummer. I did, however, have a gargantuan epiphany on the way into MGM when an elderly woman from Hudson, FL named Gloria fell on the pavement and broke her nose. Everyone was so frantic to get into the park for the auditions that no one would stop to help her. I stayed until the paramedics arrived and talked to her for 15 minutes or so. She was really counting on getting in there to win a million dollars so she could buy a car. More on this story later--probably ... read more

Basically went to Universal Studios and Disneyworld. Its kind of funny down there, it is really touristy and kitschy. Universal was pretty good. We were there for New Year's Eve fireworks which had a good atmosphere. I think I just may have cracked the theme park going tactics. Go early, before it opens and be with the first crowd to go in. Go on the popular rides one after the other - in the morning will hardly be any queue for about the first hour or so. Or, if you go a little bit later, start from way at the back of the park, because most people will be still near the front. We actually moved hotels to stay at Disneyworld - which gives you 3 extra hours in the parks. It wasn't that expensive because ... read more
