July 12, 2023 – On the Road Again It’s 6 am Kirsten has finished her shower and is dressed. I’m still rolling over in bed. Let’s go sleepy head, Mandy will be here in 1 ½ hour and I’m going on vacation with or without you. Ok, Ok, I’m up..... I’m in and out of the shower and dressed, Kirsten has me a cup of coffee sitting on the counter. We’re all packed, and our suitcases are sitting by the door. It’s 7:30 am now and Mandy just texted Kirsten that she is downstairs ready. Ok, let’s go!! We grab our suitcases and out the door we go. Next stop is terminal C at Orlando International airport. Yeah, the new addition to the airport. Easy drop off and pickup. And yes, the traffic on I-4 was ... read more

Dear All Greetings on this travel blog entry that will relate my time in Orlando, Florida’s holiday capital! While hitting the tourist scene isn’t usually my thing when I travel, preferring to see more everyday and local places where you learn about the country, culture and history, it is also something that just has to be done. And I have to be honest, I have had a small dream about visiting Disney World for quite some time now. It was tricky to narrow my time down in Orlando to just two nights and one full day, as I would have preferred three nights and two full days, to be able to take in two theme parks rather than just one. However, with a California trip already booked for next year, I thought I’d do Disney World ... read more

On our way home we had to stop off at our tried-and-true campground in Orlando, FL, Bill Fredrick. This is our go to camping spot since it is only $20/night right in Orlando. We stopped off at Nates favorite place to eat, Del Taco, did a little thrift shopping, and started to pack up to head home.... read more

Orlando 2019 This was supposed to be a big family trip with my boyfriend's family - 6 adults and 2 kids. Unfortunately, everyone else cancelled the trip as my mother in law had been diagnosed with cancer and would not be able to travel due to treatments and insurance not covering her. We were asked to join them on the trip after they had already booked the holiday - so luckily we had booked our own flights/ hotel and car hire separately from them. As usual, I was overly excited about the trip. My first long haul flight and my first time to America. I was already making lists and making sure that I had everything I needed. My bag was already packed months before hand - but I kept checking and changing the contents. I ... read more

How do you plan a Disney trip or any trip? I usually start with deciding the dates because you can't book a flight or hotel room without a date. However, sometimes that is not the case. Sometimes you need to start with knowing what the expenses is going to be first. How much does plane tickets cost? The hotel. How much are you willing to spend for this trip. How much do you need to save per pay check to afford this trip. How long do you need to save so you will have enough money. Having all these parameters answered will dictate how many days you can enjoy your trip and when. Would it be possible to enjoy it for 2 weeks? 1 week maybe? Or just 3 days. Yeah, yeah. How much Paid Time ... read more

In Disney World lingo, "rope drop" is when you arrive at a park before opening. People do this to walk right onto a popular ride when the park opens and to go on other attractions while crowds are fairly low. Normally, rope-dropping doesn't interest me much, but I feel much differently during the pandemic. I wanted to prioritize getting on indoor rides early in the day before there was much wait, and that's exactly what we were able to do! Magic Kingdom was scheduled to open at 8am. I read that the best way to rope drop is to be at your bus station 90 minutes early. Joanna and I got there right at 6:33. Disney isn't filling buses to capacity right now, which is nice, but it means you wait longer for buses. We didn't ... read more

Disney World offers such fabulous resorts. We've learned to always plan a "resort day" when we go to Disney World. This is a day where we get to recover a bit from all the walking (I hit over 28,000 steps yesterday!), and we can also enjoy our resort amenities. For Joanna, this meant we did a lot of swimming today! We're staying in the Little Mermaid rooms at Art of Animation, and this section has its own pool. It's smaller than The Big Blue Pool in the center of the resort. We've spent time swimming in the Little Mermaid pool already, so, this morning, after breakfast, we decided to check out The Big Blue Pool. It has a zero entry side, so it's probably a good choice for families with little kids. It also has a ... read more

This morning, Joanna and I were up early. We mobile ordered breakfast at our resort. I thought we'd pick it up and bring it to our room, but it's quite the hike from our room in the Little Mermaid section to the main building at Art of Animation. So, when we arrived, we opted to eat there rather than carry a tray of food all the way back. There are tables set up outside, so it's really a nice and safe place to eat. As we ate, a squirrel came right up to us. Joanna was thrilled, but I was trying to scare it away. It took a long time to be deterred! Later, a bird flew right up to us and landed on the back of my chair. I jumped in surprise, and a woman ... read more

In January 2020, just before the pandemic hit, my friends and I began planning a girls' weekend at Disney World for October. It was going to be us and our daughters. I was so excited for that trip, but then came COVID-19.... ...No one knew how long the pandemic would last. So, we kept our trip booked until the last day for almost-free cancelations. Disney allows people to cancel up to 30 days before a trip, and you get a full refund on your room or package. Unfortunately, we didn't purchase a package. We bought our tickets separately, and those were non-refundable. Disney extended the expiration date by nearly a year, and our tickets are set to expire in September 2021. I've since rebooked the trip a few times, but I always chickened out and canceled. ... read more

Two things brought me back to Orlando for the third time in the past year: the color pink, and the chance to see what’s been called “America’s Team” in person. On top of that, I got to try some off-brand KFC that punished my body the next day, so that’s exciting. As with my previous two trips to the area, I didn’t do a lot of sightseeing. Disney and theme parks aren’t my thing, even when there’s not a pandemic going on. Still, it’s hard to escape the tourist-dependent landscape of central Florida, even when you’re not here for touristy purposes. While college football bowl games are normally a massive haul for tourism, 2020 has taken its toll on all of that. Unlike my previous bowl game in Montgomery, I couldn’t buy just a single ticket ... read more
