Kim with nephew
Proud Auntie Kim with Drew. We arrived at Josh's on Saturday, January 23 at 8:30PM. We had left VA at 7:30AM so the 13 hours was pretty good time. The roads were clear and little wind, so other than a 20+ mile section near Brunswick, GA (at night, in the dark) where the road was 2 narrow lanes southbound, with Jersey barriers right up close, it was uneventual. No, Kim did not drive. But having 3 people in the coach gave each of us a chance to go to the back and sleep and still have a co-pilot to chat with the driver.
Trish and I hugged our son, then lined up the RV in his drive, plugged in the electric, and headed inside. Kim had given her brother a hug and hustled inside. By the time we got in, she was holding Andrew and smiling from ear to ear. He IS a handsome little fellow. He was 5 lb, 12 oz. at birth and that is mighty small. He is putting on some weight and still adjusting to life in the big wide world, trying to let his parents know the difference between "I'm hungry" and "My diaper is full". They are learning and trying
to teach HIM that sometimes you have to just lie there and watch the shadows; you can't be held every moment or fed all the time.
Sunday was a time to sit and chat, hold Andrew, and rest. (The 600+ mile drive all in one day is tiring.) Trish and I each had time holding him and feeding him a bottle. Kim also had a chance to babysit while Josh, Jen and I went shopping and Trish took a nap. She fed him and changed him.
Monday we fixed the storm door at the front of the house and replaced the latch. Josh barbecued chicken (yes, it is still warm enough to do that here) for dinner and we had grilled veggies to go with it. Tuesday we drained the hotwater heater and got the sediment out, then reset the temp so there was more hot water for dishes, bottles, bathing, etc.
Wednesday was picture day. The kids made arrangements to go to Sears in the afternoon and have a family portrait made. We did a variety of combinations. Jen has posted many of the pictures at her blog at: http://babykinley.blogspot.com/
That evening we watched a movie together and enjoyed
New parents and Drew
Mother and child are doing fine. Father could use more sleep (as could mother), but once Andrew decides the same, it will equal out. an old fashioned New England style winter meal. Trish and I worried about the weather coming across the country, so decided to check closer. Seems the storm will hit Friday afternoon to Saturday and will bring rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow, depnding on the time of day and location. After checking during the afternoon and evening, we decided to pull chocks and head back early Friday morning, a day early. Latest forecast shows we should make it home with no more than rain to worry about.
So we will leave and leave a proud family and wonderful grandson behind. We hope to get down to see them again on a Spring swing. It will depend on how long we take and where we go first. We are thinking of heading to AL and spending time looking for retirement property in April/May. Before then, we'll have several campouts with our Good Sam chapter and probably a couple of solo trips to get out and relax.
