Everyone had got a pretty good sleep, but I wanted everyone to get up and enjoy my last day of being 29. We went downstairs and had breakfast at a restaurant called Maxine that was also attached to our hotel. Before getting down there though, there must have been a huge storm (that we had somehow missed) as the roads were all flooded; just another Florida downpour. At Maxine's I had a giant chicken and bacon sandwich which came with chips, Nick got a burger and Marnee got Bacon and eggs; all the meals were huge. From there we went for a walk in search of South Beach.
We found it and it was beautiful. Huge area of white sand and lovely cool water to swim in. We sunbaked, explored and swam for hours. We headed back to the hotel to check out the other pool. This was downstairs and was surrounded by bamboo and had a bar inside the building. It was probably more kid friendly down here and it was a lot cooler and more refreshing then up on the rooftop.
Nick had ordered some calamari by the poolside so I helped him demolish that as Marnee swam.
Next, Nick headed back to the room for a chill while Marnee and I went and explored South Beach a bit more. We went down South Beach's main road called Ocean Drive. One of the best things about Ocean Avenue and South Beach in general is the amazing architecture. South beach claims to be the world’s largest collection of the very cool 1930's style Streamline Modern Art Deco architecture.
We walked along Ocean Drive taking photos but stopped off at Haagen-Dazs for an ice cream. We then continued on down Ocean Drive checking out the flashy cars then moved onto the beach before reaching our turnaround point and heading back up Collin Avenue instead for a different view of South Beach on the way back to the hotel.
We got back and Nick wasn’t there so Marnee and I got ready and headed down to the hotel bar as it was happy hour between 7-8pm, which at the Catalina actually meant free drinks! Marnee and I made the most of these before Nick came back and we headed off down the road to Sbarros for a quick feed of pizza. We then continued on to The Playwright Irish Bar again.
We started with drinks and pool once again before a couple of locals decided to make themselves known to us. There was Anthony who was originally from New York and Nick who was South African. Nick shouted us all tequila shots for my birthday and showed us a little trick, to neutralize the terrible taste of the tequila after shotting it you have a sip of pineapple juice; it actually worked.
We stayed for hours drinking and dancing and playing pool before jumping in cab back to Nicks place for more drinks and laughs. We ended up back at our hotel just before the sun came up. What better way to bring in turning 30?!
