We had a wonderful "first" sail today. It's the first time the sails have been up on this boat! We weren't breaking any speed records, but it was a wonderful first sail. It was a chance to see how the boat reacts to the different directions of the wind and, actually, a very little amount of wind pushed us along quite nicely. We are very pleased! We are staged here at Pumpkin Key, just outside Angelfish Cut, ready for our big sail tomorrow. Not sure how long we'll be out or exactly where we're headed. Departed our Marine Stadium anchorage at about 8:30am. We had been hoping to do a little sailing across the major part of Biscayne Bay, however, the wind, again, was not going to cooperate. The day started with flat calm all the way across the bay. You can see how flat it was when we left anchorage. As we got closer to the southern side of the bay, the breeze started to pick up. By the time we entered Card Sound, the wind was about 10 in our face and cool (hence for the pic of me all bundled up). Started the day in my bathing suit on the deck (with the autopilot at the helm) watching the bottom of Biscayne Bay through flat calm water. Today is Christmas. It's a day that we've chosen to designate as a time for companionship, family, generosity, and all of that lovely shit. And without necessary intention, many are swept into the tidal wave of commercialism, materialism, BOGO sales, ultimately under the guise of giving. I'm spending nearly two weeks total on Pelican Key, just north of Largo, with some good friends in their RV. We give gifts to each other consisting of laughter and advice. RV life is fantastic. We had dinner tonight at some friends' place, a full-on Christmas meal. Good conversation (mostly about diving), great people, marvelous memories. I again find myself running. Just running.
