So many bars, so little time! There was a heap of shirts with this on. I've never been to so many bars in such a short time. I spent 7 days in Key West and partied 6 of em! Every 1 is on island time, 24-7 partyin & no dress code, boardies, pluggers & a singlet, top stuff. Each day I would go down to Maloray square ( right on the H2O, a ton of little stalls sellin stuff & lots of street performers) & I'd watch the sunset. Then I'd go bar hoppin! There was bars right on the H2O, bars with business cards & bras covering the walls and ceiling, bars with bands, bars with walls full of slushy cocktails, bars with misty H2o sprinklers on the roof & my faverate place, iris Kevin's ... read more

Henry Flagler lived the kind of fascinating and far-ranging life one expects from a 19th century American tycoonapreneurist. Among his achievements was enabling access to the Florida Keys by railroad in 1912 as a final triumph in his campaign to fully develop Florida. Although his amazing railroad was thoroughly trashed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, the remaining infrastructure was utilised to create the Overseas Highway that today funnels people down a pocky two-lane road to the the "paradise" that inspired Margaritaville. Cruising down this morning past countless seafood restaurants, boat dealerships and flipflopperies, I noted how the actual development of the Keys seemed to end in 1980. It's all gravel roads, pickup trucks and brutish building design. The Keys vibe is laissez-faire, sunburned and fashionless. You go... read more

“ALL KNOW THE WAY. FEW ACTUALLY WALK IT”. bodhidharma January 25, Monday. Our first stop was a bike shop to get Bob’s tire repaired and then on to an internet cafe to update the Travelblog. We traveled down Highway #1 to Bahia Honda State Park. This is a coveted campground on the beach. In 1992 it was voted one of the best beaches in the USA visit Dr Beach to see the list and how he rates beaches. But about five years ago a hurricane changed all that. It is still a very beautiful place to visit. It is one of the many state parks in Florida, and this state has a great park system. Several parks we stayed at were voted BEST STATE PARK. We walked along the beach, had lunch and moved on ... read more

Key West Dry Tortugas Fort Jefferson National Park January 28, Friday We were up early enough to watch the sunrise. On this little island we didn’t have to move very far. After breakfast we went kite flying. The wind was just perfect. Bob has a “stunt” kite with two cords controlling the kite, mine was much simpler but lots of fun. By 10:30 the boats began to arrive with lots of those tourists disturbing our peace?! We managed to catch up with the tour this time and had a ... read more

” The voyage of discovery is not seeking new landscapes but having new eyes. Marcel Proust “ January 26, Wednesday Fishing Day meant an early “get-up”. I made the lunches and Bob went to purchase the bait, squid and shrimp, and Rob was already cleaning up the boat. All aboard and off we went on a beautiful calm sunny morning. Floyd was my fishing tutor and Bob worked with Rob. The rods were big and at first a little awkward. The first stop was to “catch more bait” and that we did. Every time the line went into the water another fish bit! Cutting and baiting the hook, from my perspective, was a dirty job, but getting the fish off the hook was even more of a challenge. My first catch was a 22” grouper! Unfortunately ... read more
