... read more

Two Florida State Parks in the Tampa Bay area, Honeymoon Beach and Caladisi Island, were within a few miles of our campsite in Dunedin. Both are well worth the time and minimal fees. The causeway to Honeymoon Beach has free beaches and free parking. The causeway is very popular with pickicners, jet skiers, fisherfolk, kayakers, waders and sunset tourists. There is an $8 per car fee to enter Honeymoon Island State Park with it's four miles of wonderful white sand beaches including a designated Pet Beach. Caladesi Island can be accessed by kayak or private boat. We bought tickets and took the 20 minute ferry ride across a dredged channel between Honeymoon and Caladesi. Caladesi is famed for great shelling on the north side of the island. We were totally content to wade in the St. ... read more

We love the Tampa Bay area! Day one was a great day of thriftstore shopping with zita! Day two was a fun day at the races at Tampa Bay Downs (Wes once again proved his well honed exotic betting skills)! In between we went to our first movie of the entire 3 month trip (American Sniper - grueling but important). Great eats during the trip at Molly Goodheads (Oxana), Keegan's (Indian Rocks), Grimaldi's (the Pizza that made the Brooklyn Bridge Famous), the Island Grill (Island Way Clearwater) and Frenchy's Outpost (near the Honeymoon Beach Causeway in Dunedin). A few nice visits including a surprise when a couple from home - Jim and Cindy from East Side Drive - were also camped near us at the very nice Dunedin Carefree RV Resort on Bayshore Boulevard. And we ... read more

This is our first winter in six years NOT living aboard Gust O'Wind. We decided to try life ashore in the attractive smallish city of Dunedin, on Florida's Gulf Coast, just north and west of Tampa. It has worked out very well so far....biking, beach walking and playing pickleball have all been weekly activities. With frigid weather continuing at home, we are in no hurry to go back and will stay here until the end of April. Here are a few pics.... read more

Geo: 28.0134, -82.7848When the welcome signs at the town boundary announce the most significant claim to fame to be the spring training location for the Toronto Blue Jays team, you know you're not about to be overwhelmed with a plethora of cultural events (unless you think of golf as a cultural event). That was ok because we had booked some extra time here to just chill, play a little tennis, do some biking, and catch up with two of our favourite peeps, Ann and Sandy K. They are parents of friends/neighbours of ours back in the days when we owned a home and, under different circumstances, I suspect that they would be out doing pretty much what we're doing so we have a great time trading stories. DH is currently looking into the legalities of adopting ... read more

The next day, Tuesday, I went to honeymoon Island. The most beautiful place and most isolated yet, in the world. Got some amazing photos of Pelicans and cool phrases on the resting seats along the sand line. Remember Dan, there was no sign of civilianisation at all on this place, totally flat sea to my left and scrub land to my right, for miles and miles. That evening we went back to Clearwater Beach and went to the restaurant where we first met in 2003. We had food and drinks while watching the film crew getting stuck on the quads in the ultra fine and deep white sand, that was highly entertaining. I paid the bill, $100 as a way of thanking them for having me for a few days. When we got back to their ... read more

Today I woke to a barrage of barking from Lucy and Merlin, the two dogs Aaron and Christine have. I wasn't sure whether they wanted to eat me or play with me. It soon became quite apparent that they both have short term memory loss because this happened every day and every time I would go outside and come back in lol. Aaron and Christine both had to work so I went to Clearwater Beach for the day. It was the first time I had driven in the states during the day which was cool, as it was great to see it for its glory in the sun. The roads were smooth and wide but slow going. I parked in Clearwater next to the place that me, Aaron, Pete, Martin Christine, Kim, Summer and Arianne went ... read more

So yesterday Denise came round for 8.45am to collect me for the airport. We were both out the night before with Dan and James so we were both feeling a bit groggy to say the least, well I was. I rocked in at 12am so it wasn't too much of a late night. We stopped for McDonald's at ASDA Swindon, Double Sausage and egg mcmuffin meal please :) ... No had no traffic problems getting to Gatwick and did it in 1 hour 45 so good times all round. I had already checked in online so I went straight through to departure gates. It was remembrance Sunday so after I had walked through the body scanners a loud tannoy message was played asking everyone to stop and respect a two minute silence for the fallen war ... read more

Hey, all! Getting ready to leave for Chile this afternoon. This will be where you can get updates about all that I am doing and seeing as long as there is power and a computer near by. Chile had massive power outages yesterday so getting on often at first might be a bit challenging. Well, that's all for now. Adios! ... read more
